Right now the PS3 is sitting around the £250-300 price point and thats a bit steep for me being a student and all. I would like to get a ps3 but I cant really justify buying one at that price point. I could buy a new case, hard drive, Windows 7 and maybe a decent used graphics card for less than that.

Depends on whether or not the cost of manufacturing decreases.

It depends on how the year looks to shape up for Sony. Also depends if Microsoft drops the 360's price. I'm thinking there will be a price cut. It might be a minor one, but it is a price cut.

Probably not, since they lose money still and they need to profit from the sales of other stuff but you never know, if they are desperate or if nintendo/ms cut prices, they may have too

I feel fairly confident in saying Sony doesn't look at how many PC parts you can pick up for the cost of their console when making sales cuts. Also they are still not making any money on the PS3 itself at the moment, so it's safe to say it may stay at $300 for quite a while till they are making $25-$50 per console.

I don't think it will, but who knows. Right now tho, $300 is a pretty good number for most people older than you lol.dual_boot

He means £300 Pounds not $300 USD

£249 = $400 USD. = Brits paying more for PS3

$499AUD = $447 USD = Aussies paying more for Ps3

299 Euro= $430 USD = Europeans paying more for PS3

so on average everyone else in the world is paying $126 USD more for their PS3s then North America (havent done Japan, but they would be in the same boat as North America)

Anything can happen it would just suck if they introduce another new PS3 model.

Just save up for a PS3, eventually the price will go down and you will have the money for it :)

The PS3 is also a BluRay Player. which range of 137 to 159. But the PS3 is also a Game system. put the 2 together and you get both a Game System and a Movie player.

If you look at the actual specs of the PS3 you'll see that the price for the system is already cheap.

another price cut won't come for another 3 years or so.

I'd say no

but 360 will

the X360 hasn't had a real price drop since Sept 2008, giving a 120GB HDD to $300 Pros and calling them elites isn't a price drop, but its enough to trick consumers

I'd expect ps3 to stay at $300 until well in to 2011, the Wii to stay at $200 as well with a 10% chance of a $30 drop

but if you want a 360 i'm betting in 2010, prolly in august once Natal comes out, the Arcade will go down to $129.99 and the 120GB elite will go down to $249.99

it would be nice if it did. my ps3 broke. and im not paying almost 200 bucks for sony to fix it. when somthing else could go wrong like the blu ray drive die and end up costing another 175. i will just wait for the slims to drop to 199-250 with a game or 2 before i buy another ps3.

i think a natal 120 gig bundle will be 250 by december of 2010.. they will lower the elites and arcades to clear stock starting in march. with another 50 bucks off at E3 this will make sony act sooner then they want to and most likely nintendo also.

Yeah I would avoid ebay and find them locally. That way if the system ever breaks then you can go back to the person you bought it from and beat them up.

thats not true. 360 has 3 years warrenty on the 2 main problems that kills the 360. RROd and E74 error. all you have to do is look at the date it was made on the back before you buy it and if its over 3 years old dont buy it. ms doesnt ask for a sales ticket so you can get it fixed for free even if your not the person who bought it from the store.

They're already losing money and they want profitability in 2011, so no, at least not a $100 price drop. A $50 at most if they really want profitability.

I don't know what will happen with the overseas prices, but I can pretty safely say that the US won't see a 2010 price cut on the PS3. The $300 price tag in the US pretty solid, and I really think that it's the price where Sony hit the sweet spot in terms of performance-per-dollar (those of us living in tough economic times would call that value). Any more of a price cut in the US would be outrageous, and honestly probably wouldn't drive that many more PS3s to be sold than are being sold now at the $300 price tag.

It depends on what Sony's financials look like for 2009.

Sony very well could last year everybody was saying NO sony wont cut the price it will stay at $400 it is losing money on every PS3 sold and sony proved everyone wrong I could see them go lower.

If it does I will say it will definitely kill the competition not necessarely Wii but definitely 360.

I highly doubt it. Sony still isn't making a dime on each PS3 sold yet, why would they lower the price which, in turn, causes them to lose even more money?

depends on the market, i think at $299 you get a hell of a package. BluRay, Top Notch Games (Killzone 2, Uncharted Series, Demons Souls), WiFi, internet Browser, Standard HDD, Free PSN Membership, Free Online Gaming, Home, etc.

The Price should remain the same until 2011 at least, the console already had a 300$ price reduction overtime since release.

probably not, but in a case MS lowered the price of the x360 and its sales start to pick up again, i may expect a 50$ drop in PS3 price but that's abt it, Sony can't afford any more losses imo and it wants to be profitable so more price drops will just cancel any potential profits in the future........at 250$, i think Sony will keep that price for a year min. .
