The latest Famitsu sales chart: 7/20/20 – 7/26/20.

So after a week of standing in Ghost of Tsushima's shadow Animal Crossing is back on top where it belongs, no doubt the sales bump has been driven by the latest update. GoT of course takes second place, comfortably pulling ahead of Paper Mario now, and by all accounts is a worthy title to conclude the PS4's elustrious run in the land of the rising sun.

On the hardware side of things it's pretty much what we'd expect with this generation coming to an end, and the new consoles just around the corner. Complete Nintendomination.

Software Sales (followed by lifetime sales)

  1. [NSW] Animal Crossing: New Horizons (Nintendo, 03/20/20) – 94,115 (5,280,398)
  2. [PS4] Ghost of Tsushima (SIE, 07/17/20) – 53,387 (266,302)
  3. [NSW] Paper Mario: The Origami King (Nintendo, 07/17/20) – 50,643 (159,735)
  4. [NSW] Ring Fit Adventure (Nintendo, 10/18/19) – 32,126 (1,205,379)
  5. [NSW] Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics (Nintendo, 06/05/20) – 25,136 (261,027)
  6. [NSW] eBaseball Powerful Pro Yakyuu 2020 (Konami, 07/09/20) – 21,094 (145,689)
  7. [PS4] eBaseball Powerful Pro Yakyuu 2020 (Konami, 07/09/20) – 16,253 (134,751)
  8. [NSW] Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (Nintendo, 04/28/17) – 15,175 (3,051,164)
  9. [NSW] Ninjala Game Card Package (GungHo Online Entertainment, 07/22/20) – 11,693 (New)
  10. [NSW] Pokemon Sword / Shield (The Pokemon Company, 11/15/19) – 9,845 (3,672,649)

Hardware Sales (followed by lifetime sales)

  1. Switch – 108,883 (12,012,998)
  2. Switch Lite – 16,348 (2,424,87)
  3. PlayStation 4 – 833 (7,629,636)
  4. PlayStation 4 Pro – 601 (1,568,359)
  5. New 2DS LL (including 2DS) – 933 (1,724,697)
  6. New 3DS LL – 49 (5,888,192)
  7. Xbox One X – 23 (20,651)

Cough*.... something something racist and proud culture so the HIGH majority only buy Japanese consoles and games from Japanese developers.

WOW! Ghost of Tsushima did really awesome in sales than I thought. What a great victory for Sucker Punch, even Yakuza director (Toshihiro Nagoshi) gives a huge praise for GoT success despite being made in the West & not in the homeland of Japan itself.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is without a doubt one of the most successful Nintendo's exclusive franchise and trust me, Animal Crossing: New Horizons is really addictive cause there's just so much to do.

I also see Pokemon: Sword/Shield is slipping on the sales it seems. Overall, great victory in sales for all gamers.

The Switch has already outsold the PS4. 14m to 9m even after being released 3 years and 4 months later.

Did the Switch acually sell over 100,000 units in a week, or is that a typo?

Not that many exclusive games sell that many copies in Japan (at least five million copies), so that is quite an achievement.

Mediocre games are mediocre games, regardless of cultural representation.

Total Switch sales being 5+ million over PS4 sales in Japan is nuts. And lol at that 1400 PS4 and PS4 Pro combined sales. The Xbox was within *checks number*... How the hell do you only sell 40 consoles Microsoft? If there weren’t U.S. military bases in Japan, we would likely see zeroes... They shouldn’t even waste their time, energy and money shipping Xbox consoles to Japan next gen.

Best isn't the word. New Horizon is the most addictive game I actually enjoy just because there's so much to do is what makes it fun to play.

@davillain-: My thing regarding ACNH and being goty or not is that's like the cover of life magazine for person of the year. Not the best person but the most culturally relevant. ACNH is that, no doubt. But as a game it has some very bad design choices.

And yes, I've played it for 100 days straight... It is addicting. Stopped buying turnips last week to cut my loop. But I still think regularly about my villagers and unpicked fruit trees. Damn now I really want to go back!

Obviously not a typo. No idea why you'd think it was. ~125k for Switch and Switch Lite combined.

As silly as this seems, it's not like Ghosts will outsell ACNH worldwide anyway, even not counting Japan.

@techhog89: I thought it might be a typo because it's so much higher than everything else. There is a huge difference even between the base Switch and Lite sales. If the 108,000 was supposed to be 18,000, the Switch would still be dominating.

It would be a disaster at that point though. Either way no, it's accurate. Just like most of the world, Nintendo is selling every Switch they ship to Japan. The normal Switch has also been much more popular than the Lite in Japan. Besides that, how could they have sold 94k copies of AC this long after release if only 34k hardware units were sold?

Makes sense. Animal Crossing New Horizons is a quality title with a deep well of content. While Ghost of Tsushima is also a quality title: Animal Crossing simply has a far wider range of appeal.

Animal Crossing can jump back to number one because it has also hit the culturally significant status more than any other game released this year, because it came out at a perfect time to combat with the covid lockdown dread.

A.C. offers enough content for players to drop in everyday or every few days while keeping things fresh. Seasonal updates and content seems varied to the point of keeping the interest alive for a very long time.
