They have to. If they do bring it to consoles, it will become mainstream and supported by every game, which would be great.

If they’re “working on it” now it’s probably not close to coming out. We’re talking the next GPUs probably. Not this weeks consoles.

Unless they have dedicated hardware to do ML they will be using the CU's to do the processing which means it will take away resources from other tasks.

someone correct me but I think Xbox Series X at least has a dedicated ML portion on its die. idk how it works tho how xbox has a dedicated portion when AMD still not figure it out yet, probably directx own solution.

No it just uses Rapid path math for it, the Pro support this as well as the PS5 i am sure, the xbox is finer tune to it IF that was a customization of it and not something of RDNA2, like FP16 was on Vega.

@04dcarraher is right it uses the own resources which mean less resources for something else.

XSX has DirectML built into it.

AMD and DirectX 12.2 have been working on this awhile.

@04dcarraher: yes, but I hazard to guess the ML uses substantially less resources than the traditional rendering pipeline would to make up the difference at the target resolution - this is basically just a regression process. I.e., a 20% resource siphon is worth it for DLSS2 level results (if that's what they get)

I always find these announcements to be complete lies

If it is available, why we haven't seen in a single game, just as a proof of concept at this stage?

Guys, what you see is what you get.

AMD needs something like this. There's really no other path forward. They're barely competitive even without taking DLSS into account.

True but XSX ML capabilities are less/on par with 2060 so probably won't be anything good like DLSS 2.0. It took Nvidia 2 years, may be even more to get here and it still not universal. AI models take a lot of time, data and tweaking to work.

Another thing I don't understand is why MS/Sony is relying on AMD to do that! They can do it themselves knowing how terrible AMD is at the software side. It's more baffling because MS already has significant investments in AI/ML/DL and one of the heavy hitters in the field.

EDIT: Funny the slide says Nvidia provided the model and help for super resolution so it appears it's actually MS working on it and not AMD.

We don't know how long anyone has been working on the software yet, they could have been working on it for years for all we know.
