It's official +19% increase in IPC!!! The biggest jump in since the original Ryzen launch. After several years of trying since Ryzen launch AMD has officially taken the performance crown back!!

Ehh, I'd hold off before giving them the crown. The Big Navi numbers looked a little disappointing as well, won't be able to touch the 3080.

The way it was presented was very dodgy

It's barely better than intel offerings

probably a couple years away still so I'll reassess then obviously

Probably gonna go with the 5800 for this build. a $700-800 processor isn't all together justifiable for me, unless there's a real benefit to the 12 cores for gaming, which I doubt.

Still running my R7 2700X and never bother with the 3000 series and after looking at the 5000 series announcement, I'll be going with Ryzen 7 5800X cause I never pay CPU that's over $500 budget range and that 5800X will serve me well for the next 5 years. That said, I already have an MSI X570 motherboard, all I need is Ryzen 7 5800X & RTX 3080 and I'll be set for a very long time.

They should offer developer support to tank performance on Nvidia hardware while they're at it, make their APIs proprietary. Nvidia did it and people never held it against them, seems like an open invitation if you ask me.

I'm looking at that 5900X....i wants it.

i dont know why i want 12 cores. no games at the moment uses 12 cores. 8 cores will probably be fine for the next few years.

...but i want 12 cores. i have decided i want to see 24 little CPU graphs in task manager :P. a shame the 10 core wasnt a thing in the end though. that would have been perfect for me.

Hopefully there is enough stock so i can get a new mobo, CPU and ram and get my PC back up and running. the GPU can wait till next year.

Ive been saying this for awhile, A good test to see if the new AMD cpus match and beat intel's offerings would be to use a intel bias game like Farcry 5 or New Dawn. The fact that 5900x matches a 10900k at 1080p is a really good sign that its going to be a game changer.

Don't really give a crap about Big Navi, I'll still favor Nvidia and not because I'm a fanboy, I just prefer Nvidia's GPU to get the best of the best. Personal taste you guys...but I sure as hell love AMD Ryzen CPU, that's for damn sure. But I do wish Big Navi the best of luck on release.

I always go Intel because all I really use my PC for is gaming (besides internet use and music which don't require much CPU). But if AMD can beat Intel in gaming than yeah, I'll definitely be going AMD.

You're good to go as is, same with the B550. Some of the earlier boards need a bios flash.

Good to know, thanks. I just saw ASUS is updating their boards, so I may look at those (Crosshair VIII Dark Hero and B550-XE) so I may see how those may benefit me, but I can't see it making a huge difference.

The one you have is pretty good, not sure I'd want the hassle of swapping things out and back in again for a small difference. Up to you though :)

At this point I don't have to worry since I still don't have a friggin 3080 to put into anything!

Yeah, if it's minor things, i'm not gonna care.

I feel that pain. I gave up and back-ordered at Canada Computers, so now it's just a waiting game. You have to pay in full, so i'm guaranteed one of their next batch at least.

@lundy86_4: The only difference between B550 & X570 is their PCIe difference. B550 uses PCIe Gen 3 & X570 uses PCIe Gen 4 and I can tell you now, it's hardly any difference as it'll be a long time before anything that takes advantage on PCIe Gen 4. That said, you are really good with that B550 motherboard. I just happened to find myself a better deal with I got myself the MSI X570.

I actually switched out the board with the Asus X570-Plus, as the price difference was minimal. TBH, this build kinda blew up my old budget, and it's looking to be roughly $3500 with tax lol.

Yeah, I don't expect Gen 4 to make a huge difference as of now, but figured i'd grab a compatible motherboard and a 2TB NVME Gen 4.

Nice one, I hope you get one sooner rather than later. I'll just wait for the next round to hit and hope I get lucky.

The B550 is PCIE Gen 4 compatible. The B450 is Gen 3. The X570 will run Zen 3 at faster speeds is what I saw as the main difference.

Things are looking very promising. I look forward to third party benchmarks. However, I won't be buying another CPU anytime soon. i9 9900K is still a beast for gaming.

AMD must've updated the bios if that's the case. Either way, its good to know the B550 will support Gen 4 in the long run.

It's been coming, ever since Intel got themselves stuck in their 14nm mud. Always kinda wondered if I should have delayed my upgrade, so I could have gone with AMD myself.

Oh well. No regrets. My 8700K is still a great chip.

if the IPC is on par or even better than Intel's cpus... AMD is the only way to go in the future for new gaming PCs... reason for this is any game developed on the next gen consoles are made for Ryzen cpus, so those games will likely be best suited to run on an AMD cpu over an Intel, assuming the IPC and thread counts are similar.

I still use an old i7 4770k, been sitting back waiting for years for something to upgrade to, AMD's new ryzens may be the sign I been looking for.... and I have no choice anyways since a 4 core cpu will be pretty much unusable when the next gen console games come out since they'll all be optimized for 8/16 thread cpus.

the big navi is going to be more expensive than the 3080 (msrp) while having less performance? Has that ever happened before? I doubt it. Enjoy your nvidia card.

$650 would be less for the MSRP. AMD isn't going to be able to match price to performance against the 3080.

Yeah I did AMD CPU and NVidia GPU on my current build, best of both worlds in my opinion.

Nothing against Intel, I just don't see the need for a big expensive CPU. My 4th gen Intel lasted me a long time, and I will probably go Intel again in the future.

Yeah they aren't easy to get, that's for sure. Good thing EVGA is doing their queue system so everyone will have an opportunity to buy them at MSRP. But yeah, AMD is in a rough position, they aren't going to gain any ground in the high end being behind in price/performance.

Super stoked for the 5900X. Hopefully AMD will compete with Nvidia at the high end for once with the upcoming RX6000 series.

Next PC build is going to be sick.

Yeah they aren't easy to get, that's for sure. Good thing EVGA is doing their queue system so everyone will have an opportunity to buy them at MSRP. But yeah, AMD is in a rough position, they aren't going to gain any ground in the high end being behind in price/performance.

Maybe this is their only window of opportunity. AMD to sell at MSRP while Nvidia can't sell at their's.

@rzxv04: Nvidia is selling at theirs at MSRP. The problem is they sell out in 30 sec every time they get back in stock.

Oh yes, those awesomely irrelevant 1080p benchmarks...
As if if anyone who can afford a $600 CPU couldn't shell out more than $100 for a monitor, lol

Yup. Guess that's the best scenario for AMD until scalpers/scarcity fades out.

@rzxv04: Big Navi is also expected to have stock issues. Apparently there isn't any AIB cards until 2021 either.

Looks like I'll go with a 3900x after all the waiting. Why pay 450 for 8 core 5800X, when you can get a 12 core 3900X for 400? The gaming gains are only relevant ant lower res and for games at over 120fps anyway, which does not include my use (will be getting a 75Hz 1440p monitor).

Intel has been barely relevant for years, for typical consumers.

Sure you might get a few more ipc, but the value prop is just not there.

Just trying to help!

You can go check out tweakers yourself, I provided the source. But I hope you know Dutch.

Newer generation and IPC gains, I guess.

You are right that CPU is not that relevant at higher resolutions. But it'll still make a difference in games that are heavy on the CPU. GTA V and Total War come to mind. But these are growing more and more rare.

Unless they go out of stock, I'd defintiely recommend getting the newer gen.

Great news then. Sold out for both companies.
