Amazon removes 20% Preorder discount on games for Prime Members

It's a pretty big change in revenue for Amazon, and the decision comes only a few months after Best Buy shuttered Gamers Club Unlocked, a competing service which also provided a 20 percent discount on games.

According to the retailer's updated terms and conditions, Prime members will instead receive store credit as an incentive to preorder video games through Amazon, but only preorders of “select video games” will come with the $10 store credit promotion.

$10 credit is still pretty good. I guess it depends on what these "select games" are. I'm thinking it's stated that way for the few that won't allow it, probably mostly Sony first party.

So now Prime is just 2 day delivery and Prime Video?

That's too bad, but I can't say I'm surprised.

Prime has really lost its value for me

they must of been losing money.

gamers are big spenders. video gaming is huge.

they probably realized selling full price would net them more money. same for best buy.

Amazon sucks and they are raising the price for Prime, I'm out after my year is up...no way am I paying $120 for 2 day shipping that isnt even 2 days anymore. They treat their employees like garbage. Boycott! But I did just buy some shit from them.

Some tv shows are still good. American Gods, Anime, Tick, Jack Ryan, Mr Robot and the Man in the Castle among a few others.

I renewed GCU a few months ago so I'm good until 2020. Spiderman and RDR2 for $48 each is nice.

Seems like more people are coming around to something I figured out like 5+ years ago.

Prime has really never really been worth it to me (yet... I'm actually a current prime member because I got a deal on it for $50 last year... LMAO). But no way in hell would I pay $120 for it, never even paid $99, the only times I've been a member I got Prime for like $50.

I don't "boycott" Amazon, though I certainly could. But what i do is try and buy from the retailers who initiate deals, Amazon is too lazy and just matches whatever Best Buy and Target and Wal-mart do. If it's Best Buy's deal, I usually make a point to buy from then, not from Amazon. Likewise for any other retailer who has their own deal I'll buy from them. I have nothing against Amazon when they come up with their own deals.

Wish I added a couple years to mine (or whatever the max would be, assuming they had a max). When I looked mine up it was already through end of 2019. I wasn't sure if they would pull the plug early, so I hesitating on adding more time... but I sorta wish I did because the 20% should at least stand up even if they pull back the $10 certs.

@2Chalupas: Yeah my problem is sometimes they have stuff that I can't find anywhere else lol...drives me just because I want to avoid them.

Even after it expires the discounts are still good on anything you already had preordered so just preorder anything you're interested in before it expires.

*only on some of their items. Most items I ordered through Amazon so far say that Prime is not applicable to them. I was trying Prime out but I'm not super impressed yet.
