Isn't this thing mainly for streaming? Besides the specs are weak as hell.

Might be a good second or third option if you are a Prime member like me but I don't see this chewing into the marketshare of any of the major 3. It will eatup Roku and Ouya sales though.
That's how I feel. Roku and Ouya, Apple Tv and this are not going to take any sales from the big 3.

Agree. It's a different market. And games that are available on PS4, X1, and WiiU won't be available on android or iOS because of the big power difference. It's a cool little gadget though. I have the Chromecast, and it's a great device, but it should have been more like what the Amazon console is. But for the price range the Chromecast is in, I can't really complain much.
Amazon hired Portal and Far Cry 2 designers. That's pretty big news. To be more specific, they joined "Amazon Game Studios".
After looking at the keynote and given amazon popularity, I can see this taking off if amazon delivers in the content department. This might eat into Sony and Microsoft's lingering seventh gen platform sales. It may also spell trouble for Wii U since it is a 7.5 gen console.
Anyone know the in-depth specs for the hardware? All I could find was it having "quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, and a dedicated GPU". I can't imagine it's very powerful at $100, though maybe it'll beat the Wii U.
Didn't think to look at the Amazon site itself before my last post. Seems even weaker than Wii U.
Processor | Qualcomm Krait 300, quad-core to 1.7 Ghz |
GPU | Qualcomm Adreno 320 |
Storage | 8 GB internal |
Memory | 2 GB LPDDR2 @ 533 MHZ |
Won't be competing with PS4/Xbone gamewise anytime soon. Maybe it can claim some of the TV watching market the Xbone was supposed to
It's pretty high spec'd (higher than a Vita, from what I gather), and it can be a pretty good games player; unfortunately, I see it forever stuck in the mobile games ghetto. Poor Double Helix, though.
Indeed...

Yeah, RIP Roku and Ouya
Wannabe console elitists raining down on anything that isn't as powerful as their mighty gaming consoles.
It is a platform for a little bit different market.
This product doesn't make any sense. Where Amazon produces a very good selling tablet and updates it every so often, why skimp to a weak android style tv box? First the android/ios game market moves very fast, technically. Devices phase out faster than they should. People are not going to see a point in upgrading a tv box every few years. Seems silly of them to attempt this, unless it is just a teaser into what is in store in the near future. People are willing to pay 200 plus dollars for their own branded tablet--so why not instead offer up a console that will actually have some kind of lifespan,
