I don't know much about computers in general, however i'm thinking about making a switch from consoles to a PC. I'm currently looking at a ASUS G20cb desktop and it looks amazing. But i've also heard alienware is great as well. I'd like to keep the price under $3,000. Any advice?

@GoBuCs123: Id go with ASUS, awesome company and the largest in the world. Dont forget, you can also build your own ASUS computer. ASUS has good parts for everything. Aleinware doesnt really support custom gaming at all. But yeah, that ASUS G20cb is amazing.

For sure go with Alienware. ASUS is garbage. I would look at getting Area 51 with triple video cards like mine.

Get Ncix to make you one. Alienware is stupidly bad and overpriced.

Build a PC with a full tower, 32gb DDR 4 ram, a z170 mobo, Skylake architecture cpu, gtx 1080, windows 10, two ssds.

You'll get twice the value from NCIX

Nothing is inherently wrong with Alienware. However, building your own PC is really advisable if you're not going for a laptop.

Dude... 32 GB of ram is overkill. And 2 SSDs? Just why? Keep the costs down, TC. Get one SSD drive and another SSHDD or regular HDD. You don't need 2 SSD drives.

16 GB of ram is plenty.

Start with the 4790k CPU and go up from there, but that and anything above will suit you perfectly for gaming.

Also, full towers can be a waste of space. If you are only going to do a single video card, go with a mid tower.

take my advice. Build your own. Both the asus and alienware pre-built desktops are overpriced............

If you want to know how to build your own pc... Its really simple actually.. Just think of it like a couple lego pieces. There are tons of youtube "how to build your own pc" videos.

For parts, just choose the latest stuff since you say you have a budget of 3000..... Dude thats a monster pc! for that price ( wont be a monster if you go with that pre-built thing for the same price)

For parts.. Considering your budget since you are willing to spend alot ..

Cpu- I7

Ram -16 gigs should be good enough for nows

GPU- Gtx 1080..

SSD- whatever you want..

If you want to go modest but still very good

-latest i5

-about same ram

-Gtx 970

If you want the most value gpu.. r9 270

As others have said, build your own... you are throwing 100s down the drain for nothing more than a brand that can be less reliable than your own build.

Takes a few hours of research, and the right places (go to build a pc reddit... not this junk forum) ... look at youtube videos... its damn easy (though alittle nerve racking on the first few builds) ... chances of damage are minimal.... and every part has 3+ year warranty.

Honestly, for $3000 you can build a high end PC and save yourself some money.

http://pcpartpicker.com/list/dvRxHN

this may not be exactly what you want but, for $1500 I would go with a custom build vs a gaming laptop, unless gaming on the go is something you're looking forward to. Still this build packs a little more punch than the Alienware, and if you feel like overclocking you can swap out the 212 for something a little cooler. Being new to PC gaming I understand that building a PC seems like a lot but it's really just common sense, once you build your first you become addicted.

Even the build @lunar1122 posted would be good. My general rule of thumb(or at least one of them lol), is that when buying a manufactured PC, you can save yourself some money by building your own that will 90% of the time out spec whatever you were looking at.........actually I think that's just common knowledge lol.
