This is nothing new.

Large corporations and companies tend to do this in the hopes that a.) they will get away with it, or b.) if they don't, they can just settle out of court with a fee that is so small relative to the profit they made it can be considered a good investment.

This is why if and when things like this go to court, the penalties must be really severe, like in the millions of dollars. Otherwise these companies will keep doing it. It's easy to balk at some unknown artist wanting a huge payout from a company, but there is a reason to keep it so high. I'd rather an artist make millions than Activision 😁

If stupid idiots with zero self-control and too much disposable income collectively pay Activision 2 million dollars for some stupid superficial skin, and they can settle out of court for 20,000 dollars...that is actually an incentive for them to keep plagiarizing.

There's a difference between "copying" and plagiarizing.

As long as gamers continue to support such a company, they are enabling its morally-bankrupt behavior.

The main demographic of Call of Duty are not really "gamers". Most of them don't even understand what plagiarizing artwork even means, probably. Give them a new SICK skins for their favorite weapon, and that's all they need.

There is a character called Roland in Vanguard and there is no way in hell they didn't steal the likeness of Rowan from Viva La Dirt League from youtube.

It's actually a joke I have with my boys that perhaps they made a deal with him under the table that no one knows about, but it is fairly obvious they ripped off his likeness if not.

Pretty crappy. But my guess (and I agree with YongYea) that this probably from a rogue employee that did this without the rest of company knowing until it was brought to their attention. Where any company should take blame is when they don't own up or take appropriate action against those that engaged in plagiarism. IGN promptly fired IGN editor Filip Miucin after he was caught plagiarizing the Dead Cells review (and later discoveres he did it on numerous occasions) . Today I read Screen Rant plagiarized their Xenoblade Chronicles 3 guide from Nintendo Life... man, better fire that asshat fast. Capcom had to settle a lawsuit filed by an artist who proved Capcom stole her visual assets that she would license out. Whether Activision-Blizzard deserves condemnation about this will depend on what action they take now going forward.
