So it seems like from all metrics, the new Spiderman game is a success, both critically and financially. The formula seems obvious. Popular IP, big production and marketing budget, and finally talented developers.

Which begs the question, wtf is Activision doing all this time? They sat on a goldmine and churned out nothing but mediocre and mid budget games.

Probably because Activision doesn't want to spend any money on any games. They operate as a business for business, and not for gamers. Spend as little as possible to make the game, then spend just as much on marketing and hope that marketing gets them as much money as they can garner from gamers.

Such a waste of IPs.

Luckily Blizzard is still decent under them.

Put it simply, Activison is known for abusing franchises and licenses and the result is shitty being pushed out for a quick buck. Bobby Kotick has basically said he doesn't care what people like or want because he just wants their money. It's one thing to say it's a business and their goal is to make money, and they've made some poor decisions in doing so! All companies suffer that at times. It's another thing to tell people to screw off after spending their money because you're a greedy piece of shit and now you don't care since you got their cash despite releasing a fucked product.

I've liked a lot of the franchises and some specific games that Activison has published over the years, Spider-Man 2, THPS, early CoD, and others. But now, I cringe when I see their logo because I'm afraid it's going to suck simply because greedy people are out to make a quick buck. I accept normal business miscalculations; but fucks greedy corporate ass clowns like Kotick!

Based on what ? Trailers ?

We have absolutely no idea if that game will be any good or just a load of crap.

Just because Activision teams up with a great developer (Bungie, Platinum), doesn't mean they'll deliver a great game.

Have you seen the list of their IP's? They are banking everything on a handful and let the others die.

"Activision sucks!" Yeah, yeah, y'all say that now. I can't wait for them to announce a big multiplat that isn't on the Switch. Soon y'all will say, "the Switch misses another quality exclusive!"

None of the games from Acti seemed very ambitious and never seemed to get more than a AA effort. Their tentpole is obviously CoD.

I would love to see the Star Wars license get back in the hands of a talented dev backed by a publisher (anyone but Acti and EA) that will trust them to see their vision through.

Activision loves to focus on Call Of Duty. Most of their companies are forced to work on that series only. I will give credit to them for both the Crash Bandicoot and Spyro The Dragon remakes but god damn so many of their talented developers are being wasted here for only working on COD. Look at Raven Software for example, they use to make games such as Heretic, Hexen, Soldier Of Fortune, Star Trek: Voyager – Elite Force, and both Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast and Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy. Now all they do is work on Call Of Duty maps. Seriously I wish that Raven could split from Activision and work with a much better publisher instead.

@carlquincy: “Which begs the question, wtf is Activision doing all this time?”

Spending the money it felt was justified for a multi-platform game. As both the publisher and platform holder, Sony could — no, had to — spend an excessive amount to ensure the level of quality the game achieved in order to give potential console purchasers another reason to buy a PS4 and become a likely purchaser of other license revenue-generating games on the system. It’s similar to a loss leader in retail.

Activision didn’t get a cut of sales of “Uncharted,” Madden or GTA on the PS3, so spending as much as Sony did made no sense.

A few of the beenox efforts were ok.

They had potential but we're rushed to finish.

Shattered dimensions was decent, and the games based on the amazing spider-man movies had a solid foundation. But there wasn't much to fill them out.

Treyarch made some good spidey games.
