I am too drunk to be talking about World War 2, so I'll keep it simple. Probably won't.
When we think about World War 2 in video games, we think about shooting Nazis in the face. YEAH **** YOU SCHWEINE HUND!
But there's more to it. I played a game, like a million years ago. It was called Prisoner of War. If any of you delicious sluts played this, shout off. Let me know. This game was not your typical kind of WW2 game. You were in this concentration camp, and you had to make it out. It was a stealth game. And I think we should experiment with this stuff.
A recent example is Valiant Hearts. I know, it's the first World War, but ze germans!! Beautifully told through puzzles. It's not a game where you're out to shoot ze nazis, but to help one another, and see the effects of war on an individual. YOU ALSO GET TO PLAY WITH A BELGIAN. It's a very charming game that show that history can be shown to, us, gamers, without an Thompson in our hands.
So,... I don't know what I'm typing anymore. Uhm... ****... Are you okay with historical games being approached like this?
Not just shooting dudes. But experimenting, seeing how else we can tell a story. We need another Prisoner of War.
For those that have the slightest interest in the first World War, check out Valiant Hearts. It's cool. We don't have to shoot dudes in the face in order to bring forth ... Drunk.. freedomfreak for president.
