It's the GAMES that matter!! Not whether graphics are 720p (upscaled to 1080p), 900p (upscaled to 1080p), or native 1080p. That makes no difference whatsoever in the enjoyment of playing a game. These resolution differences are totally irrelevant, especially since they are all high definition anyways.

What matters is: Does the console have games you want to play?

System Wars is no longer about games, it has become a hardware and technical specs debate forum. People on System Wars have forgotten what really matters: THE GAMES!!!!

Actually found it on Reddit. Apparently it's already spreading from the BF4 Xbox Promo thread. My work is complete.

Not true. I suggest you research some of the expert size/distance charts for 1080p which are based off of 20/20 vision.

Not trying to defend the Xflop One but I'm also not going to lie. In most living room environments, 1080p is nothing more than marketing just like contrast ratios and audio frequency response.

If people really want the best picture possible, they need to stop worrying about resolution and invest in greyscale calibration. Or at least the Digital Video Essentials: HD Basics Blu-Ray disc and color filters. I bet most of you play while using factory settings.

Resolution and framerate affect the way you perceive the game.

Why are you getting next gen then? Better question, why are you shelling $500 for a console that has WAY less "games" than ps3 or 360? Just stay with current gen and you have your "gameplay" and "games". Damage Control from lems is fucking amazing.

If only the games matter and not the hardware to you I recomend buying a Ps3. It has a much bigger and better library than X1/Ps4 atm.

@Thunder7151: You should have been a 720p HDTV salesmen five years ago to today when people tried to go for the 1080p sets, you could talk them into two 720p sets! This is some good stuff!

That is distance, pixel amount, 720 to 1080 is 125%.

It's peculiar to me that after watching the side by side comparison of Battlefield 4, even at the lower resolution the XO seems to look better than the PS4. What trickery is this MS?

Could it be that resolution is not the only factor in a games graphical presentation? Couldn't be, ...right?

@AMD655:

Doesn't matter. Most console gamers and even PC gamers who use their towers with HDTV's won't see a difference because they don't sit close enough.

Smaller sets such as 50 inches and below are 1080p for two reasons. Marketing and cost effectiveness.

Also, it must be pointed out that most TVs that now labeled as 720p TVs actually have a native pixel resolution of 1366x768, which is technically 768p. However, they are usually advertised as 720p

It didn't matter before, but now all console gamer's eyes have evolved at the same time and they can finally tell the difference.

But not at anything above 1080p you obviously can't tell the difference then.

Or if youre sitting too far away from the screen. Sitting 10 ft from a 55" tv sucks plain and simple. Ok for watching but not for gaming.

People forget that high res brings out the detail of high res textures and automatically reduces aliasing.

I personally am fine with 720p as long as it maintains an equal framerate, and will have the same visual effects and physics and other perks of the PS4 ports.

It's not as if they are making $100 profit on each console, Kinect 2 cost a significant amount to include. Both consoles are likely to be breaking even at best. Microsoft deem the inclusion of kinect necessary, and as the original sold 24 million+, they deem it more of a worthwhile inclusion than improved graphics (and only in a couple of launch games so far), that the majority of gamers outside of forums won't care about.

I also think Live has a greater impact than the improved hardware of PS4, I guess we will see what sales figures are like. I can see the Xbone selling extremely well, and there will be no need for a price drop for a while.

@Cranler:

If you are having trouble gaming less than 10 feet away from a 55 inch set, you really should have your eye sight checked.

Further more, you are better off paying a licensed professional to fine tune your set than you are just wasting the money on a higher resolution. Its funny to me on how many people dump a grand on a television set only to view with factory settings and all the stupid filters activated.

I was one of the original Kinect buyers, and I actually enjoyed my time with Kinectimals, Adventures, and the Kinect Labs mini-games/apps.

But at $100 (£75 here) extra with inferior hardware. Kinect + XBL don't make up the difference when the core hardware isn't performing. The price should be cut as fast as the original Xbox, to compete, and they should offer some free games up for early adopters (like the original Xbox 1).

I still abide by my comments that I prefer the Xbox One launch line-up.

to some it does matter and for them the ps4 is the better choice.

to me it all comes down to improving psn.

if psn remains the way it is no amount of resolution (or any other gfx improvements)can convince me to get multiplats for the ps4.

if it comes closer to what xbl is then i will be getting my multiplats on the ps4.

Based on pictures and videos online, the XBOX ONE version of Battlefield 4 does looks better than the PS4 version. I think that's obvious to anyone who is not a Cow. However, a real-life side-by-side comparison of the two versions of BF4 might be a different story.

I just hope you're not using DF videos as a source, they admitted to not having much time to capture and fix the settings for their capture devices.

The issue here is simple; Tom had a limited amount of time to capture this stuff and was not able to do so in a normal environment. If mistakes were made normally, it would be easy to go back and correct, but with the way this worked, it wasn't really possible.

Why so different? DF uses their own hardware for capturing while DICE were handing out Elgato boxes to everyone else. The DF hardware is actually much more capable but it works differently and, without the experience of working with these new consoles, I can see a situation where settings were dialed in wrong.

Based on pictures and videos online, the XBOX ONE version of Battlefield 4 does looks better than the PS4 version. I think that's obvious to anyone who is not a Cow. However, a real-life side-by-side comparison of the two versions of BF4 might be a different story.
