5 years ago MS didn't allowed cross-play with Sony. Why Sony should allow that now?

Just to show hypocrisy and double standards by MS and Xbone fans!

As cool as this sneak peek was, Trion can't let the finished Xbox 360 game connect to the PS3. "Microsoft won't let Sony players play against them," Rodberg said, before suggesting we change the topic to something less sensitive. Presumably the barrier is a corporate and/or technical incompatibility between the Xbox 360's Xbox Live and Sony's PS3/PSP PlayStation Network. Those services are separate enough that people who play, say, Call of Duty on one, can't play that game against owners of the other, rival console.

Because players benefit from it? Unless you work for Sony or are a fan boy I don't see any reason to refuse crossplay.

Hypocrite! Ask MS why he didn't allowed that before. Unless you work for MS and you saw some reason to refuse crossplay with Sony 5 years ago.

Sony allows crossplay on games like FFXIV because they use an online infraestructure that is not attached to MS. MS requires other companies to use their infrastructure that's why they haven't allowed FFXIV because Sony is already using non-MS technology and why they took it out from Fortnite since they were not using MS services for it, meanwhile it still works on PS4. If anything, it is MS who is hindering crossplay by not staying neutral and making it a requirement that crossplay should be the way they want it and not let others decide how to implement it. This is MS typical monopolizing strategy, require everything to be their way or the highway.

That's because PSN was free, slow, easily hacked and just terrible compared to Xbox Live, but now PSN is getting better and would not impact the quality of online gaming with Xbox live

Some company from back in the day didnt have cross-play, so its ok if Sony screws us over now. We should rejoice!

Hell, even Nintendo supports crossplay.

Before 1964 discriminating based on a person's skin color was legal in the United States. Point being, are things never supposed to change?

The point isn't what someone did before. The point is always what someone is doing NOW. NOW is all that can be changed. Nintendo has changed, MS has changed. Sony is the only one not willing to change for the betterment of consumers.

LOL chill out man, that's why I keep telling some of the morons who post here that if you want the company to hear you, give them constructive feedback and criticism. Companies are a group of individuals who constantly change over time.

A company is not 1 person, they don't all think alike. Often you have arguments within a company, and I'm just glad Microsoft finally decided to have a more open stance on this cross platform play thing. Yes I think their closed-minded thinking about this in the past was a mistake, and I'm just glad they changed their policies. Maybe they have new staff now that can see the benefits, I don't know.....I don't have all the details as to why they allow it now, but I'm glad they do and I'm one of the people who would regularly give them feedback as to why they should do that.

I regularly play Forza Horizon 3 and Gears 4 with PC players from my XOne and I think it's awesome. Instead of dwelling on past policies for a system you absolutely don't give a shit about and you are only trying to slander, why not try focusing on the system you enjoy and give them feedback about their policies if you want them to change, maybe they listen to you if enough people tell them.....until then, keep bashing the other side because it feeds on your impulsive hate behavior, not my problem.

@mowgly1: So you want me to build a time machine and travel back in time to 5 years ago? Because why would I complain about an old policy when there's a new one? It's like complaining about the PS4 because the PS3 launch was bad.

If you want to complain about MS crossplay there's still plenty to complain in the present. There's absolutely no need for the argument"they were shity 5 years ago, so now is ok for Sony to be shity too" specially when as a consumer there's nothing to gain from it. Looks like just corporate tool logic.

Well they should have done so back then but they didn't. However it's a childish argument to say that Sony shouldn't go for cross platform play with all the platforms now. Get over and move on. It's something that is beneficial for gamers, developers, and the industry as a whole.

This is truth.

Its why I said NOW is all that can be changed. Can't change the past, its gone. Can't change the future, it doesn't exist. Now is all that does. And right now devs and gamers are looking for cross play of ALL networks. There is no real reason to not do it. It wont stop anyone from choosing the platform they personally want. And if you already connect with PC your customers are playing with the most unregulated network of all, so safety isn't an excuse. Its obviously ideological.

Right? As I said before, hypothetically say Sony wants cross play next gen, does this make it ok for MS to say no then? This thread is pure bitchy shit.

You mean like MS keeping FFXIV away by not allowing crossplay on the developers terms? That's still happening right now.

MS, like any other company, has their policies and regulations. When lemmings start whining about Sony enforcing them and completely ignore MS enforcing theirs is when their hypocrisy shines.

https://www.polygon.com/e3/2016/6/17/11960518/final-fantasy-14-xbox-one-talks-mmo-square-enix-microsoft-e3-2016

"When our team reviewed the regulations that are associated with that, we realized that Microsoft may not have the experience or understanding of running an MMORPG as an online game genre just yet. The Final Fantasy 14 team has fed back to Microsoft that there are certain elements of its regulations that we would have to consider waived. We're waiting on Microsoft's response for that, but we are having discussions."

Until today the game is not there so their regulations have not been met.

@pinkanimal: but isn't it you cows that throw it around that Japanese games don't sell on Xbox? They don't want the game on their console, they have it on their pc operating system. What does this have to do with Sony telling the entire world they wont be open to minecraft sharing with Nintendo, PC or Xbox? And they iterated strongly it isn't a business ideology of any kind. Well then if not what is it?

It's company's policy, exactly what MS is doing with FFXIV. And no, MS doesn't control everything on PC, they don't control every single game that releases there unlike the Xbox where they completely control what releases there. PC is an entirely different environment to consoles since it is open and not under the single control of a company. MS didn't "allow" FFXIV on PC, a developer made a game for PC. MS has no saying what games release on PC or not, they have a saying with the Xbox and they have so far refused FFXIV on their machine because of policy. A similar policy to what you lemmings are crying with Sony. That's why lemmings are the most hypocritical fanboys out there, spin and dishonesty is what they are all about.

Spot on.

What Sony is saying no to is a very bad business decision,. Sony is company and they have to be able to justify their decisions from a business perspective.

And while cross-play makes sense for the gamers and particular for Microsoft who is after all a PC company, Cross play would not be sensible for Sony.

Developers have not done a cost analysis though. Saying it's easy to tweak games on there part is not the same thing.

I have no tears about any of this. You and gowly are certainly on the attack about it though. The platform listing for ff14 pc says Microsoft Windows PC and then separately for Linux and mac.

So then it is a corporate ideology. I say it is in terms of ff14 on Xbox, but Jim Ryan of Sony swore up, down and side ways it wasn't for minecraft. You make yourself out to be big on calling out liars, why haven't you done so with Jim Ryan?

I would imagine what the devs are talking about is the coding on their end....but they can't speak for costs Sony would fine. I'm really not sure why this matters TBH. If you like online gaming and you buy any system that supports it.........you'll find someone to play the game with you.

That's one of the most cringy analogies I've ever seen on here. We're talking about cross platform play on video games feller. Keep it in perspective.

Lol or you'll what?

Haha....I thought the same thing. Really not equal analogies.

Point was made. Things changed for the better of all. Why shouldn't they for gaming consumers?

@LJS9502_basic: I don't see how developers implementing this in their games would cost Sony any money.

Not all games have huge player bases to draw from at any given time regardless of how many systems have been sold. More players is always a good thing. For the life of me I don't understand how anyone can say that less is better.

Ask Nintendo why less is better.

They keep their games exclusive despite the fact that if they did cross-platform they could easily quadruple their sales.

@cainetao11: "So then it is a corporate ideology. I say it is in terms of ff14 on Xbox,"

It is a policy of MS with their device the Xbox, nothing less and nothing more. Just like Sony does their own policies for their devices. You lemmings trying to pretend Sony is the only one behaving like that is pathetic. I've never tried to deny Sony's policies as being beneficial for them as a company unlike you lemmings who seem to think that MS is the corporate version of the Mother Theresa.

I guess Sony knows more about their finances and their strategy than you do, just saying... And it seems to be working for them.

WTF do u think policies are? An expression of their corporate ideology. I just said it is in terms of ff14 and Xbox, but you wont call Jim Ryan a liar when he claims its not for Sony? So you believe it really is about safety of the people on psn? Even though they are willing to allow cross play with the most open and unregulated platform, pc? LOL you're as much a corporate bitch as you claim others on here are

And people say MS fans are being complacent and letting MS get away with.... everything? Whatever that means. Sony fans continue to be absolute cancer and the worst fanboys and hypocrites.

I have no problem calling anyone a liar if they lie like I've called Sony a liar before, I'm not a hypocrite like lemmings. I'm not sure what you're talking about though about Ryan, I didn't read anything from him on this thread. Besides, do you have proof he is lying? or is that just your wishful thinking? Security is a perfectly good reason to make a company policy and we don't know exactly what type of security he's referring to unless you know the technical details. A company definitely can control more a online connection with the PC than with a private company. On the PC Sony can make their own code or have access to the code, control it and review it, it can even be standard, widely used code, not so much if the code belongs to a company that keeps it behind walls and you just connect through a socket and then your company's data will be managed by the other company's protocols. Having said that I'm sure there are other economical reasons too but I wouldn't discard not being able to control security enough as being one of them unless I had access to technical details.
