For all the irritating pessimist who insist that "We aren't at 4kPC gaming yet", beside the numerous benchmarks that prove otherwise, here's what I learned today.
Ok, I've had the Pascal Titan X for about 10 hours now and I've tried at least 17 games. Let me tell you first hand that 4k GAMING IS HERE. I haven't overclocked it yet and I'm thinking that I may not have to since I'm only doing 4K60 (as opposed to 120 or 144hz or something). I'm locked on 60fps at 4K in the following games:
Black Ops 3
Witcher 3
Shadow of Mordor
Overwatch
MGS5
Arkham Knight
Far Cry 4
Watchdog
Doom
Mad Max
Killing Floor 2
All last gen games
Admittedly, in each these games I have only turned off things I do not like such as: film grain, motion blur and chromatic aberration. Ever since 1080p I have never used these settings because I feel they actually degrade the image for me. Also, at 4k on a 32" monitor, I did not notice the difference between anti aliasing being on or off. So for the first time I actually took aa off and I don't regret it at all. It's just a pointless loss of performance to use AA at 4k (on a 32" monitor). I did this for current as well as last gen games which the Titan can completely destroy so it was not a matter of chipping away. All other settings are maxed.
The only games that dipped below 60fps so far were:
Rise of the Tomb Raider
The Division
Both of these games dipped from 60 to about 53fps or so. But with Gsync I did not notice the actual gameplay difference between 60fps and 53fps. The Division actually stays locked on 60fps about 90% of the time. The online benchmarks that have the Titan performing less than mine are simply (1) using 3 settings that I don't like (film grain, motion blur, CA) and (2) maxing out anti aliasing. None of these settings add anything of substance to the game and at 4K, the games still looks 100x better with these settings off than anything completely maxed out at 1440p or 1080p; let alone console. So don't give me any sh*t about "hey you didn't use motion blur". Who cares, it only cost like 2fps?
Bottom line, I'm enjoying my games in 4k at 60fps. So 4k GAMING IS HERE because I'm actually sitting here doing it with a NON-OVERCLOCKED gpu. I'm sure my overclocked 6 core processor is contributing but 4k gaming is here nonetheless.
