See, I dont get why people like limiting themselves to only one console or handheld. If you cant afford two, then I understand that, but why have fanboyish preferences when both these things are going to offer great stuff exclusively and why would you NOT want both if you could afford it?

Look, with 3DS you are going to get the stuff only Nintendo is going to give you like Mario, Zelda, Metroid, and pokemon. While with NGP your going to get the stuff only SONY can give you like Uncharted, Killzone, Resistence and so on. 3DS will have the 3D thing while NGP will have the twin sticks and great graphics. 3DS could have more innovative gameplay with its touchscreen and all that while NGP could have more innovation with the 3G, back touch screen, and stuff like that. And these things launchesare going to be spaced far enough apart that someone with a job or whatever COULD buy both and it wouldnt hurt them probaly.

So really I ask why not just get both? This question goes for consoles too.

I want both, but which I buy first will depend on the price of the NGP.

Im going 3DS first because its coming out first. I know me. I know that if I dont get this thing on day one, im going to want it and want it more after launch to the point where when I finaly decide to pull the trigger on buyingit I wont be able to find a 3DS anywhere. So thats why I preordered one yesterday to save me the trouble.

I'm more excited for the NGP even though the 3DS looks pretty cool too. I figure I'll just wait until they release the next model of the 3DS before I pick one up. I might do the same for the NGP actually. I don't have an extra $500 to spend on handhelds right now :(

The only reason why not both is the cost. 3DS is $299.00/250.00 plus another $50.00 for a game. NGP is 299.00/$350.00 plus $50.00 for a game.

Conservative estimate $750.00 for both systems and one game.

I will not be buying both so one or the other.. My side is Sony and The Next Generation Portable (PSP 2) $400.00-$450.00 is what I will spend. I just cannot do them both at launch.

If you have the cash then get both. But that is not going to happen for me...Darn such is life I cannot get both Next generation handheld systems from both Nintendo and Sony.

I don't have the money for both handhelds

I want both, won't be invested that much money anytime soon though. I'll wait for a new model for the 3DS.

I'll get both of the NGP ends up looking like it will be a good purchase. Currently there's little information on the system, and I have fears of it sharing too many games with consoles.

I'm still undecided on whether I will buy either of them. The 3DS is my favourite at the moment though. The NGP looks good and has potential but the price is a huge factor and also I'm not fussed about games because I can play Uncharted, Killzone, Resistance etc. on my PS3 at home whereas I can't play Nintendo games because I don't own a Wii or any other Nintendo console for that matter.

Getting a 3DS at launch. I live in Europe and I doubt the PSP2 will come out here until spring 2012, so that is a year away.

Providing it is not too expensive I'll get the PSP2 at launch as well.

Both, I fail to see why people go on and on about why one will succeed over another or why one sucks while the other doesnt. If I can afford it, I'll be getting both, if I cant, I'll get the 3DS only.

For me, the real compelling reason to buy a handheld isn't necessarily to get more of franchises already available on home consoles, but to get the type of content that will probably never appear on home console in the first place. My gut tells me the 3DS is more likely to receive those types of games than NGP; maybe it's the potentially lower development costs, the high level of traditional 3rd party DS support, I don't know. But when I see games like Layton vs. Gyakuten Saiban coming to the 3DS, I wonder if NGP will be able to come up with the same type of unique content.

I have the money but not the time for both handhelds. At home, I'm busy enough with all the home platforms, plus you need some time for other things or just having a break from everything. I just want to get a 3DS so that atleast I've got something to occasionally relieve the boredom of work in the office.

I appreciate my hard-earned (ok, maybe not hard) money enough not to buy all the consoles/handhelds just to have the "full" experience. I barely have enough time to game on one, why the hell would I get all of them?

I want both, but there always need to be a loyalty to one and rival to despise. You see it everywhere, McDonalds and Burger King, Homer and Peter... and consoles are no different. Liking one immediately makes you fanboy and no amount of objective views can change that.

That's probably why people who have both or want both keep their mouth shut in most discussions.

Would anyone seriously want to carry around two handheld systems and a cell phone in your pockets? That seems a bit excessive. At least with consoles you just tuck them in your entertainment system and its pretty much set it and forget it.

Burger King is better -- FACT. Not better for your health, but McDonald's isn't exactly a nutritionist's pick, either.

I fall into the "can't afford both" category. While technically I could afford both with the staggered launches, I don't want to pay $290-$300 for something I'll hardly be able to use. By the time the 3DS games I'm waiting for become available, I'll be saving for the NGP. Between the Sony's IP's and all the digital media I have for my PSP, I'm not willing to hold off on the NGP so I guess I'll just have to wait for the next iteration to get a 3DS.

I plan on getting both. Got the 3DS preordered already with a $50 gift card already applied to it, so I'm happy. I'll buy an NGP eventually, but it's launch price will determine just how long that is. After all, an NGP will limit how much I can spend on DS and 3DS games. I also want to build my PS3 library some more this year since I neglected most of last year.

Considering I'm not the biggest fan of handhelds in the first place, getting both wouldn't be the wisest move. I definitely understand what you're saying, but I just find the 3DS more appealing at this point. I'd rather expend more time and finances on that, rather than trying to split it between the two. If I can get the other down the road, then great! Otherwise, I'm not going to be bummed about it.

NGP only for the time being, I like games that have the quality and longevity of console games. 3DS may come later, I'm sad I miss out on DOA.

Because they cost too much money. On the side note i ll probably be getting a 3dsi or 3dslite when a good pokemon game comes out for it and at a decent price.
