Just got this in my email:

Hi,

Thanks for your coverage on Steam Hardware.

Just wanted to share an update and address a couple of questions we received about the pre order and devices.

1) The "get it early" pre order offer is available to everyone who pre orders, but only while supplies last. As of this writing, we have sold over 35% of the limited quantity available for early delivery in Oct.

2) All Steam Machines offer full support for Steam's In Home Streaming, in addition to offering support for native Steam OS games. This means they can transmit and receive In Home Streams, and allow them to play all the games on Steam when paired with Steam PC.

3) Preview/Review Units: We do plan to make units available later this summer. We will be following up with more details on this.

What are your thoughts? Could Steam Machines actually make some commotion on the console market?

@IgGy621985: how long has it been 1 hour? 35% doesnt sound like a whole lot for a limited console.

It depends on how many steam machines are available for preorder, really. If there are 1 million machines available, that's very impressive. If there are 50,000, it's not very impressive.

It's mostly just a push for the SteamOS. Basically, instead of pcs with windows pre-installed, they come with steamos.

That's why the alienware alpha steam version is 100$ cheaper than the normal version.

But truth be told, they're horrible right now. The base AW Alpha is much better.

I suppose it's for people who understand that PC gaming is the best, but are too scared to buy a PC... or something like that.

Hmm or in case you want a second PC for in the living-room?

I dunno it sounds like a hard sell in its current state. But if it would succeed in standardizing PC's then there would be zero reason to buy a MS/Sony console ever again as your main platform. It'll have all the games and none of the worries about specs and a competitive price for better hardware with a pay per month plan. It would turn future MS and Sony consoles into platforms you'd only buy for the Sony/MS exclusives, just like the Wii U right now, and that isn't their specialty XD but for gamers this would be fantastic.

was thinking of ordering a controller... no idea why.

it's not even proven to be good!

Like the idea of the little steam streamer though... tried streaming through ethernet, almost flawless... ofcourse colour of picture is bad in comparison to native connection.

Not a fan of the steam machine. There is no need for it. It is just a very limited PC with limited games and Valve is in control. It is actually less of an open platform than a Windows PC.

Steam Machines will affect the Console market as much as PC Gaming has effected the Console market because they're just Prebuilt PCs.

Only 2 brands have Steam Machines available to preorder on Steampowered, all the other steam machines got taken off and are still working on specs, I think it is a little too soon to make Steam machines available for preorder considering AMD is going to reveal their new GPU lineup in less than a week and lower end 2nd gen Maxwell cards are coming out. The Syber Vapor Steam machine got worse, they took out the 2GB 270 and replaced it with a 1GB GTX 750. They could of just switched it with a 2GB r7 360 or a 2/4GB r7 370 if they had just waited.

Which machines? Are we talking some 3rd party vendor's console or steam link? I bought a steam link but I've already got a i7 5820k / GTX 980 so... i need something to stream onto my TV and that is perfect.

The Alienware Alpha I3 model is a amazing deal for $450.. Your getting a full computer with 8.1 windows that is fully backwards compatible with over 15 years of computer games.. And can play the most recent games at higher settings and higher fps than the current gen consoles.. In which we are going to see a even greater boost come the release of DX12.. All bundled into a machine that is quiet and has a smaller footprint than a Wii-u..

The Alpha for me exceeded my expectations and is a great counterpart to my desktop as well that I can really carry easily to any ones house if need be.
