Ugh.
"While he doesn't use the word "PS5", Kodera says (again) the PS4 entered the final stage of its lifecycle and that Sony will spend the next three years "preparing for the future""
Huh, well I suppose that means there's still time for greatness to finally arrive but I wouldn't hold your breath. :P
"we will use the next three years to prepare the next step, to crouch down so that we can jump higher in the future..."
"crouch down so that we can jump higher in the future" is an interesting choice of words. or just a dodgy translation.
you'd have thought / hoped they'd have preparing the ps5 well in advance of this, not just start to prepare the next step now.
can't say i'm not disappointed. i'm not buying a pro. three years is a long time to wait for an upgrade to a console that's showing its age. i can't see anyone squeezing all that more performance juice out of it in the future. they must be confident the one x isn't going to impact its potential market share. that or they're not being entirely honest
Sounds perfect to me!
Honestly, this has been the first generation when 5 years later i still see no need for new hardware. Games are looking better and better, and we have never had as many console games running at 60fps like we see now. 5 years into laste gen, 360 and PS3 games were running at 25fps, with screen tearing and pop up everywhere.
@Macutchi: Considering TLOU came out in the end of the PS3, which showed its age in 2010, i don't see a problem with 3 years. I'm guessing 3 years from now, so the PS5 could launch early 2021.
in principle there's nothing fundamentally wrong with the decision, it's just a long time to wait. iirc tlou released about six months before the ps4. it'd be great to see history repeat itself with tlou 2 coming in late 2019 and ps5 six months later!

I think Ghost of Tsushima will be this gens TLOU.
I feel next year we will see TLOU2.
Good, there is still a lot of life left in these consoles. I want next gen to be a larger jump than this gen was.
If PS5 releases in 2021, I won't be surprised.
So then, the specs need to include a nearly 10 fold leap over the original base PS4.
7nm+ EUV process
Zen 3 CPU micro-architecture - 8 cores, 16 threads. Clocked north of 3 GHz
15-18 TFlop AMD Next Gen GPU - that's the next GPU beyond Navi and two generations beyond Vega.
32 GB RAM - HBM3 for 1.2 TB/s bandwidth - or 32GB GDDR6 on 512-bit bus ~1 TB/s
Either way, PS5 needs about a TB/sec bandwidth. Remember, it will not only have to render games at native 4K most of the time, but also provide a major leap in graphic fidelity, lighting, etc. Not to mention any Zen CPU will need more bandwidth than the lightweight Jaguar cores present in all current consoles.
Anyone who thought PS5 would be coming out in 2019 with a 4 core/8 thread Zen CPU + 8-10 TFLop Vega GPU, 16GB RAM are sorely mistaken.
Where are all the cows that lems were saying would be upset about a ps5 coming to save the day from the supposed scorpio fearz? Oh, right.
The next three years of the Scorpio having the best Console Multiplats and you know MS is going to have it's act in gear so great first party games on the way to show off the power of the X!!!!!!!
I am not really sure how to even respond to this.
Did something happen that I am not aware of? Not trying to be a smart ass, but I don't remember them changing anything in their formula recently to think they will do anything other than 'business as usual'.
I think this is accurate you will have games for 3 more years but the ps5 will be announced in 2019 to release 2020. The best version of death stranding will be a launch game on ps5.
The one thing lems never considered while they were holding "Project Scorpio" over everyone's heads for the past two and a half years is that Sony could simply give up the ghost on when PS5 would launch and all that hype would be for nothing at all. Ya'll got played. Hard.
Considering how crappy the hardware is, I was hoping for an earlier start of next gen. Well here we go to another 3 years of my Notebook being more powerful than a "gaming system"
Honestly that is good imo. I hate this trend of rushing out consoles.
Trend?
Yes trend. There is a new console every year. Where have you been? In the real world? :P
Well, the PS4 and Xbox One launched in 2013. The Switch launched last year 2017. I'm not seeing a trend. That's not every year.
It's 2018, we;re basically half way through the year, and no new console has launched. Is one slated for end of year?
3 more years of PS4 dominating the games market with brill AAA games.
3 more years of gaming bliss.
It dont get any better than this.
Unless youre sad Xbone fanboy, in which case, serves you right! -try buing the superior console next time.
