There's two things that kept me from ever pursuing a "profession" in video games.
One is that pro players will often times play upwards of 10+ hours a day of the same game EVERY SINGLE DAY. Often times even longer. It's all they do.
Two is that most pro players wane off into non-existence as they approach their upper 20's.
On top of that it's very rare to actually make that much money. That guy has made it through years of work promoting himself, his stream, his team, and the obvious trademark. There are dozens of other LoL players who have put in the same amount of work, but weren't so lucky to get noticed.
Imagine losing 5-10 years of your life to a single video game, not being one of the lucky few who makes a lot of money, and then not being able to compete at age 30 or so? Where would you be? An uneducated person with no money, and a resume that just says you played games professionally for 5-10 years. That doesn't sound like a good place to be.
I'd rather take having an education that lasts my whole life, and a profession I can be a part of until I retire, and still enjoy gaming and other hobbies over the pursuit of becoming a pro gamer. Even if it means never making that much money.
