What do you guys think about that? Some people earn more than you probably would after your 4 - 5 year education in college just for playing a PC game.

Eh, human trafficking business has been slow this month.

We're getting in new shipments soon though, and that's sure to put me over a million for this year.

I doubt I'd be able to do that. I'd get bored and give up.

if playing games would get me a $1m a year I'd be the happiest man on Earth. On top of it, he travels a lot too and that gives him the opportunity to see the world from many different point views, something that people like us with our slavery kind of life will never do.

But I thought it was going to be VoyBoy. The guy became famous for leaking a sex tape of his own girlfriend on pornhub and the funny thing is that they are still together! That's the power of LoL+money for you. XD

I think the only game I could stand playing professionally would be Left 4 Dead.

People seem to forget just how much these pro players HAVE to play their games. It would get quite tiresome over time.

I would happily play Left 4 Dead for 8 hours a day for a million dollars a year though! :P

What do you guys think about that? Some people earn more than you probably would after your 4 - 5 year education in college just for playing a PC game.

Good for him, but some of us are studying for a real profession, not for the money.

So? I said I don't care that much about money. If I do the math on my own would-be profession, I'd probably earn around $5 million in my lifetime.

Ok, that seems fantastic. Earning so much money while playing a video game.

But I can think of a huge downside: does he have time to play other games ? Or does he just focus on one game to stay good at it ?

There's two things that kept me from ever pursuing a "profession" in video games.

One is that pro players will often times play upwards of 10+ hours a day of the same game EVERY SINGLE DAY. Often times even longer. It's all they do.

Two is that most pro players wane off into non-existence as they approach their upper 20's.

On top of that it's very rare to actually make that much money. That guy has made it through years of work promoting himself, his stream, his team, and the obvious trademark. There are dozens of other LoL players who have put in the same amount of work, but weren't so lucky to get noticed.

Imagine losing 5-10 years of your life to a single video game, not being one of the lucky few who makes a lot of money, and then not being able to compete at age 30 or so? Where would you be? An uneducated person with no money, and a resume that just says you played games professionally for 5-10 years. That doesn't sound like a good place to be.

I'd rather take having an education that lasts my whole life, and a profession I can be a part of until I retire, and still enjoy gaming and other hobbies over the pursuit of becoming a pro gamer. Even if it means never making that much money.

I do remember a story of some SC2 player (french or australian I think) who quit after he made enough from tournaments to go to college. That seemed like a pretty good plan

So he makes 70% of his total income from merchandising, even though he's not at the top. I'd be jelly if I was a more successful player and ended up earning less.

Not gonna lie I'd do it, hell I'd do it for $300,000 specially if I was getting free crap from sponsors like Razor (as an example).

In fact If I could be like my idol Swifty (the only "pro" gamer I like) i'd love to have that type of gig

Like other forms of starhood, be it movies or sports, not everyone gets to be a successful professional gamer. These same professional gamers, even after they leave the spotlight, tend to end up as consultants for video game companies. However, not only will you need superb talent and unparalleled skill, you will also need luck and connections.

Why is it that you have to give up at 30? Hell you can even start at 30 if you wanted to try and 'make it' in Esports. As long as you still have your mind you can play at any age really...unless your someone that looks down on gaming as something only kids or young adults can enjoy...which is a stupid and i think a popular opinion that is slowly changing.

One thing that should be a concern for some of these pros though...is games popularity seem to rise and fall....like counterstrike for example, which used to be very popular and have a very competitive scene and now its practically dead (doesnt help that the latest installment CS:GO happens to suck.) then if games come along in the next few years which happen to be more popular than whats popular now thats where the money goes... and some of these pros will have years of skill developed in a game that can no longer pay the bills.

And many Athletes and actors do not make that much. Don't think of this number as something to compare to, but a sign of the future. LOL has already become the largest esports game, but it's been doubling in size year to year. So who knows what the future holds.

There's a guy called Pewdiepie or whatever on Youtube who smokes pot, starts up a game and then films his progress while making childish comments and crazy screams .

He has millions of followers and made over 7 million already .

Now that's ridiculous !

I guess the game would become, over time, a means to an end rather than an end in itself (just for fun). I enjoy playing **games**, and having to play ANY one game 10-12 hours a day for several years sounds insane. It would only be bearable if the game had an enormous level of re-playability.
