2020 is best year for FPS since 2004?

• Doom Eternal
• Cyberpunk 2077
• XIII remake
• Halo Infinite
• System shock remake

Infact we just got masterpieces like Black Mesa and Doom Eternal.

Its all 2004 over again as we have seen masterpieces like Doom 3, Half life 2 and Riddick EFBB.

OP forgot the most important FPS: Half-Life: Alyx. You also forgot Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond.

Lot of remakes

ah 2004 where halo 2 flopped, half life 2 was boring car and boat sections and Riddick owned them all and is still the best sp fps campaign to this day

sure but they are entirely new games. black mesa especially xen part is complete overhaul and feel like new game.

they are not remastered. they are full fledge games. Black mesa is different than half life 1.

beside when Doom Eternal aka best FPS ever released. you cant say its shitty year.

Halo infinite is first ever PC build Halo game. if it will be good or bad remain to be seen.

Black Mesa was good but original HL better.

XIII was an ok game at best, seen nothing of the remake yet.

Cyberpunk another game we've seen next to nothing of.

Doom Eternal the wave shooter that's not as fun as Serious Sam or Painkiller.

Halo Infinite we know next to nothing about other than its another game in the average Halo series.

Beacause I've played them before. I don't get hyped by games I've already played. Even if they look or play better.

xen Part in original Half life suck. here is complete new, revamped and feel like new game rather than just visuals. and they heavily improved it. remakes count.

that make Black mesa is 10/10 game easily.

That's no indication of this Halo being good.

We will see, its soft reboot plus semi open levels like Halo 1 plus entirely new engine design for PC in mind. gameplay is wait and see.

Call of Duty Warzone, a F2P, battle royale FPS is absolutely killing it right now. 6 million players the 1st day, 15 million in 3 days, and yet it's not mentioned in this thread. Then again, what should we expect from such a niche group of gamers?

@goldenelementxl: Eh, I think it's nice people don't list games just because they're popular. Most people posting here obviously aren't very into popular BR games like PUBG, Fortnite or Warzone. Posts reflecting that only makes sense.

@Litchie: But Warzone is popular because it’s damn good. Just like Apex and even Fortnite. We’ve seen games like H1Z1, PUBG, Realm Royale and even COD Blackout fall off because they aren’t as good. Maybe the popular games are popular because they’re good... And the BR genre still offers a rush and experience no other genre can. It’s pretty obvious people enjoy that.

So when making a thread about how FPS games in 2020 are so good, wouldn’t it make sense to include arguably the best one out right now?

Doom 2016 was a decent game but there's nothing remotely genre-defining about it. It has piss poor arena design, half-assed "secrets" as padding for the poor level design, abysmal excuse for multiplayer and its a less fun wave shooter than Serious Sam and Painkiller. The only thing it really nailed was the fast-paced gunplay which is the saving grace and since that was inspired by games of the past, it isn't genre-defining either.

But Doom Eternal is different breed. thats what we are talking about

@goldenelementxl: pubg still has 100k concurrent players as we speak. Hardly some niche title.

@jg4xchamp: I didn’t mean PUBG was niche, just that it’s not as poppin’ as Warzone, Fortnite or Apex. PUBG at one point set the world ablaze. It’s still popular, but not what it once was is all.

@ghosts4ever: I've just asked two people who haven't had a gaming system since forever and both of them know Doom. There are countless Doom Eternal articles in every single website. I'd say it's popular enough to show, once again, how wrong you are.

PUBG is 3 years removed while also not F2P, so some drop off is understandable. Regardless popularity in it of itself is not a sign of a good game, plus Call of Duty's last BR mode came n went, this will more or less be the same. CoD's plenty popular, but the gameplay's been brain dead since its inception.

Fortnite straight up has bad shooting and is almost entirely carried by its building systems n luck centric mechanics.

Apex Legends is all around the most legit BR game, albeit with still wack movement, but certainly better movement than most of its BR contemporaries.

In conclusion: Tetris 99 is the only good battle royale game.

Both Doom Eternal and Black Mesa are 10/10. make it 2020 the best year since 2004.

Maybe just me but I am not a fan of how XIII remake is looking. Loses the appeal of the cell shaded look the classic had.

Cyberpunk 2077 is up next. I'd be surprised if it truly shines as an FPS, but it's looking like it should be incredible as an RPG and open world.
