2014 - Year of the RPG

It's no surprise that this year is packed with potentially awesome RPGs, and is arguably one of the, if not the greatest year ever for this wonderful genre, but for which of these are you most hyped about?

Firstly, a shout out to what might be released late this year, the sequel to one of my favorite games in recent years:

Legend of Grimrock 2

And now for 2014 line up ..

We also have Bravely Default, Lightning Returns, Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD, Tales of Symphonia Chronicles, and Tales of Xillia 2. Yikes that is indeed a lot.

Witcher 3 is going to be so boss. My only gripe with the last one is that it wasn't open world and felt pretty restricted and linear.

certainly is alot of rpgs im excited to play this year. Around 6 or 7 im looking forward to.

Theres also Tales of Xillia 2, Persona Q, Persona 5, Symphonia Chronicles, Lightning Returns,The Witch and the Hundred Knights, maybe Battle Princess Arcadia and Bravely Default. Damn good year for RPGs

Fallout New Vegas 2 is the only RPG I want. NV is a masterpiece with superb writing, characters, and story with choices that actually matter. Way better than Fallout 3.

His post was exaggerated, but i don't particulary have much faith in Lightning Returns, considering how horrible the stories were in FFXIII and XIII-2, even though i'm puzzled why people would praise the story in any Final Fantasy game. There are many, many JRPGs with genuinely great stories(great writing, interesting plot, great characters), like Dragon Quest V and Mother 3.

On the plus side, Lightning Returns may have great level design given the info on it that it's an open world design free to explore. It'll sure have high production values, like past FF games.

I'm psyched for RPG's in 2014. I've already preordered Bravely Default. Will also preorder Witcher 3, Fallout 4 & Dark Souls 2. I'll get Wasteland 2 through the Kickstarter program I supported.

Video games are fun. The ones with the role player are really good.

I'm personally more excited about Project Phoenix going into beta than almost all other releases this year.

Yeah, they're working on it with a "wen it's done" release date, here's the sub-forum about the sequel. Some speculate that it might make it this year, but i don't know. I hope that it does release this year, as long as it's not rushed out the gate.

Yeah, i forgot about Grim Dawn, it was on my radar a wile ago. I'm probably missing some other potentially awesome games most likely, the ones i wrote in the OP are the ones that i am keeping an eye out for.

Visited their site and seems there is licensed series based on Legend of Grimrock on kickstarter and it definitely is a game with enough content to make a great movie/series

Grimrock 2, pillars of eternity and darksouls all look awesome.

Trails in the Sky Second Chapter is also coming out this year (and First Chapter is coming to Steam).

I doubt that will be 2014 outside of Japan... I wish it was though...

Depends, SMT4 came out early here to a slightly increased price(with an incentive of a "collectors editition") so it could happen very early 2015 if not this year unless of course it gets delayed in Japan
