20 UE4 powered games from Japan are in development for the Switch!

Nintendo has been doing a solid job of letting folks know about all the new games coming to the Nintendo Switch in the future, but there's still more waiting out there. We know that because Epic Games Japan is working with a number of Japanese developers on games for the platform. Epic Games Japan representative Takayuki Kawasaki told Automaton (translated via Gematsu) that around 20 Switch games are being built using the engine in Japan.

"Unfortunately, there were not any Unreal Engine titles at launch, but in late March, Snake Pass, which was one of the titles playable at GDC, launched in America and Europe, and at the Nintendo Switch Presentation, there were titles such as Shin Megami Tensei," Kawasaki said. "In Japan, there are about 20 titles being developed that use Unreal Engine, so I think that they'll be announced gradually from here on."

"These are titles that use Unreal Engine, for Switch, and are being made in Japan. There may even be more. And now we're gradually moving forward with Switch support for the free version [of Unreal Engine 4]. That way, as long as you have a Switch development license, you will be able to develop for Switch even with the free version."

Notable Japanese Switch games that have already announced using Unreal Engine 4 are Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night and Shin Megami Tensei. Dragon Quest XI for PlayStation 4 uses Unreal Engine 4 as well, but we currently don't know what form the Switch version will take. Let It Die, Tekken 7, Kingdom Hearts III, Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite, Final Fantasy VII Remake, Four Goddesses Online: Cyber Dimension Neptune, and Shenmue III are other recently-released or upcoming Japanese titles built in Unreal Engine 4. Let the speculation begin!

• Four Goddesses Online: Cyber Dimension Neptune
• Shenmue III (So far, Kickstarter hasn't stated anything but for PS4)

Japan's on a hot streak with all these games lately so this is good for the Switch. Between Japanese 3rd party and Nintendo's 1st party, the Switch lineup is looking mighty fine.

Japan sure does love that Unreal Engine 4.

Why? Japan is handheld land, they want to play their favorite franchises on the go! It's a perfect opportunity

I'm only going by what's confirmed, and it looks like a bunch of shovelware.

Indie games. The Switch ain't getting big games like FF7 remake or MvC or KH3.
