20 companies bidding on Atlus, Sega being one of them

Update with the Atlus situation.

According to a report by Bloomberg Japan about twenty companies including Sega Sammy Holdings made a bid on the studio behind Persona and Catherine.

Executives familiar with the situation reported that some of the bids reached about 20 billion yen (a little south of 201 million dollars) in the primary auction held earlier this week, and that Atlus mother company Index Corporation will choose the candidates before or as early as next week and determine a final buyer by the end of the month. Notably, 20 billion yen are way superior to the initial estimated revenue of 15 billion yen.

I'm surprised that SEGA bid because they didn't really have much success recently and have been cancelling projects like Bayonetta 2 and others and have been partnering with Nintendo to publish some games.

Anyone but nintendo, even MS would be better.

Maybe Sega is planning to move into the portable market? That's mostly where Atlus makes their money.

At the moment, Sega's primarily been pumping out either Sonic, Yakuza, Total War, and HD ports so they could use some more franchises.

It was a pretty big rumor last year in the spring until Nintendo revealed for it to be a WiiU exclusive. It was then stated that the game wouldn't have been made if Nintendo didn't step in.

It's been months since I read it, but all I could remember was the development and cancellation was all rumor until the Big unvieling for WiiU, so I guess it was just never greenlighted.

Then again I also remember reading about Sega going to other companies to try to fund Bayonetta 2 and only Nintendo responded.

I can't really remember.

I would be fine with anyone except EA,Ubisoft,M$ and CrapCom.

SEGA would be the least sh*tty choice, but SEGA can't sell sh*t.funsohng

These guys alone can help Sony compete a lot with Nintendo, their games seem to kind of fit with what Sony lacks first party wise, aside Sony Japan, Namco, Konami are other better choices. Not really sold on Sega considering how their heads seem target for the mobile market

Depends on who's more desperate for games. Nintendo is certainly desperate for games on the Wii U, and Persona has mainstream credibility in NA.hiphops_savior

They will just put it on 3DS if they get it.
