So one retailer in the just the United States needs 2.3 million more PS4's....this is crazy. How many does Walmart, Target, Best Buy, etc. need and then what about the rest of the world. PSN is about to get crazy busy very soon

I'm Absolutely astonished at this numbers.

If Sony had sent more stocks, its legitimately to say they could have sold 3 million units on day one.

It's the PlayStation 2 all over again.

Funny cause a friend of mine went Friday morning at 7am, got in line and purchased a PS4 without a pre-order. He didn't have to wait all night or pre-order anything. I really don't think demand was as high as everyone is saying.

I know with the PS2, 360, Wii and PS3 you weren't getting one unless you waited all night AND were up front. It just wasn't happening.

That is in the U.S. alone. Then you have the rest of the world where Sony has a much higher percentage of gamers.

Sony was late to the game with PS3, over priced it, and made it difficult to develop for.

With PS4 none of that is the case and it's more appealing than the competition with the way it's built VS the competition.

Last gen the competition was more appealing to consumers vs PS3. It's been reversed back in Sony's favor.

I knew the ps4 was hot but not this hot. If this is just 1/2 true the ps4 just took a shit on the wii u's year head start. The x1 might as well fight it out with the wii u for second place.

Sony did a good manufacturing consoles but every single console would have pulled in 1million+ if they managed to produce that many. They were sold out for months after launches so selling 1 million launch consoles isn't anything special.

Nice DC, stop while your ahead of yourself.

Also, tell me this why don't they? Sony is sooo poor and Microsoft soo rich so how come it won't sell as much as the PS4?

And I agree, having the most successful console launch in entire history isn't really impressive at all.

Because you are a blind lemming period.

And for your information the xbox 360,Ps2,Wii and PS3 all had documented shortages, that is the reason you could not get one, sony had more than 1 million units on launch,so yeah in 24 hours they sold 1 million. And yes no gamestop, walmart, best buy or any store that sell video games close to where i live has one, several of my friends are trying to find one, unless it is been sold by some one who want to make a huge profits you will not find one..

http://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-4-Launch-Edition/dp/B00BGA9WK2/ref=zg_bs_videogames_29

Case in point you want one? You can have one $799 dollars please....

No that is not true, not all would have and even the PS2 which had even more demand that the Wii and sold 50 million more units took 3 days to sell 980,000 in Japan, since you have no proof of that ever happening yeah the PS4 launch is incredible for what it is 1 million 24 hours.

Any way gamestop >>>>>>>>>>> you..

Xbox numbers very well could amass those of the PS4 considering it is launching in 13 countries tonight (dependent wholly upon how many consoles Microsoft was able to get Foxconn to produce)

Wii U may or may not be in last place by the end of the year though - the real question is how many consoles can Microsoft and Sony churn out for Black Friday and for the holidays.

There's no way either company will let Black Friday come around without sending another large shipment to retailers. You'd have to be completely stupid!

That IGN article is nothing but pure damage control what can you spec MS payed them for a redesign,my god they don't even hide it any more.

They can pass the PS4 if they have enough shipments,or at least be close, because 13 countries vs 2 is a huge difference, but the PS4 launch next week on EU and from what i seeing on Amazon UK still the PS4 is outselling the xbox one on the top 20 quite easy, and several PS4 games doing better, which is not the same as Amazon US where today finally the xbox one was able to crack the top 20,the PS4 has been there for quite some time,i think some sites want to artificially inflated the xbox one demand to make see like the system is selling great,so i expect nothing but lies and spins from MS on the coming months, this NPD should be something incredible.

One thing Microsoft is better at than anyone else is putting their products name out there - hell, last nights Key & Peele was entirely funded by Microsoft. Multiple times during the show they were actually playing the Xbox One while doing a bit.

The IGN site is nothing more than getting your name out more to IGN (the most trafficked video game website) - its a marketing decision.

Remember the Nokia Lumia 1020 ads? The ones that ran damn near back to back for weeks on end? Or the Surface ads that did the same?

2.3 million? WUT?! That's an absurd amount and people where amazed at the fact that it sold 1 million in 24 hours. I'm sure those 2.3 million smart buyers can wait a few months.

@kingtito: You forget that most GameStops got between 8-10 extra units of the PS4s. I went to my local GameStop after the release and my buddy who's the manager said they sold all of them during the midnight release.

13 countries or whatever te amount was should defnitely push the numbers ahead of the ps4 this week, but the interesting thing is what happens next week when ps4 comes out almost everywhere else. Feb is also a date to look at. Do we know any Xbox 1 release dates for non tier 1 countries yet?

That is the real problem for MS,they can get close or outdo sony US and Canada launch with 13 countries, but next week when the PS4 release all over EU,the ties will turn big time,MS only has 13 countries for this year, sony has 32 countries as target for this year,in US the PS4 is sold out,on UK still is selling so it is on other parts of EU because sony actually got a much bigger supply than MS.

Yeah Once Japan also enters in the gap will only widen.

massive ps4 ownage

From reading the article, they are waiting for more PS4 & XB1 consoles from both Sony & Microsoft. So this isn't just for the PS4. They are backlogged on PS4 & XB1's. Sony probably had to stop manufacturing to investigate what was causing many of their PS4 to be shipped broken. Supposedly it had something to do with how the power supply was being allocated in the system.

Funny how cows though this story was all about the PS4 when it clearly talks about both PS4 & XB1. Stupid cows.

They also anticipate a large waiting list for Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox One, suggesting a prolonged industry sales slump is ending.

No is for the PS4 alone look at how they talk about expecting a big list for xbox one as well.

And parts like the bold one up there is what really make you a silly damage controls lemming, please not even MS stopped manufacturing to investigate what was wrong with the damn xbox 360 that was failing at 68% rate, yeah sony will stop it because of a less than 1% fail rate..

Cows need to learn to read.

GameStop Corp. (GME), the largest specialty retailer of video games, said its initial allocation of PlayStation 4 consoles sold out and that 2.3 million customers are waiting for new players from Sony Corp. (6758) and Microsoft Corp. (MSFT)

LOL!!

I think you're looking at things a bit wrong here. It's been said that the 1 million sold day 1 in the U.S. was 80% higher than with the PS3.

Maybe because their manufacturing plants couldn't produce that many units? You think Sony and MS didn't have the cash to produce more untis back in the PS2, PS3, Wii and 360 days?

No it's not really impressive considering it's been 8 years since the 7th gen started.

WHy would I need to DC? I'm just telling you what a friend of mine did to get a PS4. I don't care how well the PS4 sells or doesn't since I plan on getting one anyway. Not everyone is a dumb blind fanboy like you.

Yet I play most of my games on the PC and the ones I don't I play on the PS3, you know like TLOU. Great logic Mr tormented.

Duh, they had shortages....you're a genius. Like I said shortages caused lower sales numbers at launch. So being able to produce over 1 million consoles for a launch is impressive, however selling them when the last gen was 8 years ago, isn't.

BTW I can go onto craigslist right now and buy a PS4 for 540-650 not 799. These are brand new units not opened. Idiot confirmed

So all the news about Sony setting an opening day record for sales isn't a sign the console will sell well?! The fact that Game Stop alone has 2.3 million wanting a PS4 isn't a good sign it will sell well?!

What a total and utter idiot does it take to not understand that it means big sales for PS4?!
