Poll $1500 high end 4K PC or $300 1080p console with 1st party exclusives.. which one would you pick if you had to? (107 votes)

$1500 high end 4K PC (60fps and max settings), multiplats and PC exclusives 63%
$300 cheap 1080p console with exceptional 1st party content 37%

That's a tough one.. I guess it depends on how much you value those exclusives and how much money you're willing to spend. I think the $300 option though is ideal. It's great to have a good PC, but you would be missing out on those really good 1st party games. What say you, SW?

I think everyone already knows what the poll results will look like.

Edit: Going PC would stop you getting the tiny handful of Sony first party exclusives but you miss out on far more high quality exclusives and entire genres by not having a gaming PC.

No one consoles list of exclusives would come close to the amount of great 3rd party games you would have access to on the PC.

What dumb thread. You can get a $600 1080p PC and have access to the largest selection of games and exclusives. Sometimes console gamers just make themselves look so stupid at times.

Easy choice there, the pc of course

A console is fine and all but the massive library of content on a pc beats it any day of the week.

Also with PlayStation now on PC, you can play pretty much everything even exclusive PS titles.

I can afford both and i have both!!!

That said, these devices are not in direct competition, and each one of them excels in its category.

Now if you can't enjoy gaming without pixel-count, graphic-tech-marvel expectations and XXfps mantra then sure, pc is your last refuge!!!

Otherwise, if you have plenty of time, then the more of these the better!!!

Why would I spend 1500 dollars on a PC? My GTX 1070 was 400. I still have an i5-4670k, but a good new CPU isn't that expensive either. 1500 dollars is what I recently spent on my TV. I have a 300 dollar PS4 connected to that and am satisfied so far with the exclusives. My PC will stay with my 2560x1440 monitor, because I prefer playing most games at a table with a keyboard and mouse. I actually ordered parts for a second PC, for the TV, 467 dollars worth, but it will be used as a movie server.

i love my gaming rig but the ease of consoles at times makes it better for me. no crappy graphics card drivers, no regular component drivers. just turn it on and go

Isnt $1500 pretty "low end" for a gaming PC? I'd either go balls out or get the console, so I choose console.

If we're talking USD, then not really. Even CAD would get you a decent rig for $1,500. I actually just saw a pre-built on Newegg with an 8700k/1070ti/16gb DDR4 for $1,500.

"If" it were to come to that, I still get myself a decent but high-end PC, no exception!

But of course, you can however play PS4 games on PC if you are looking for trouble and by that, I mean through streaming on PS Now.

PC, objectively speaking.

  • 110 more high scoring titles (8/9) at MC than the 2nd best library (PS4) this gen. We had to stop the metagame because PC kept breaking it.
  • The most AAA and AA games this gen (Budget). Thanks "console exclusives" and emulation.
  • The Best online; competitive gaming, e-sports, and highest number of active games (by far), 60 fps.
  • The Best version of multiplats, which encompass most video games. Night and day difference for online titles. Rather striking differences against the $300 consoles on all titles.
  • Cheaper games and free online, helps off-set the price. The price for parts is also coming down, the OPs $1500 is incorrect and assumes you're building 100% from scratch as well. But make no mistake, PC will be more expensive. Just like a Porsche is more than a Civic.

I asked a simular question a couple weeks ago my thread ended up being pretty long with responses

I came to the conclusion , that it really depends on which library you like the most. And whether you eventually plan to have all the consoles , two consoles, or you just want one dedicated gaming machine?

For me , the library is the most important thing. So Ps4 will be my main console. 2nd to me is portability because I'm a student and work part time , and have different groups of friends that like to play video games. So the Switch will be my secondary console.

I have a gaming PC, but the PC library bores me to absolute tears. That and I cant transport my huge gaming tower very easily (I can easily slide my Ps4 / Switch into a backpack and bring it with me to school/friends house/elsewhere). My favorite games tend to be RPGs, JRPGs , and games with anime themes or japanese origins .

PC isn't objectively the best answer b/c libraries differences in exlusives and portability factor. But of course it has all the raw power and the best potential to play games at 4K 60+ FPS and the best virtual reality. My main problem with it is that there are many RTS, indie games, simulator games and its difficult to weed through them all to find the games that I actually like. Most games usually do make it to steam (if they arent true console exlusives) , but you never know if that will be a simulatneous PC release or if you have to wait years down the line for that game to be ported. PC is more like a luxery console to me, to have the best possible way to play multiplats (and admittedly, most games are multiplats and usually see simultaneous steam releases in modern times).

I wouldnt get a PC unless you have money to burn. IF you dont have any current gen consoles, its pretty much always smarter to get a Ps4 (maybe a switch) . And then if you save up /get more money later, then sure, build a gaming rig and use it for your multiplats. The only exception to this argument is if you love the indie games , RTS, simulator games of PC .

PC, have one at roughly that cost hooked up to my tv, so it acts just like a much much much better console. Open steam or Origin or Uplay, click on "play" pick up my Xbox One controller and away I go, 4k 60fps on a lot of games in the comfort of my couch.

Can you please tell how a console is 300$ but a pc is 1500?

What is included in a pc to get to that price? If you include monitor, speakers etc in pc cost guess you would also have to at least include a 4K tv in the console costs??

The PC ... by an absolute landslide.

"Peasants" earn thier name everytime thier last refuge is cost/value.

5 rental exclusives vs the biggest library by far in gaming? nah thanks.

PC, of course. It's a lot more useful even when I'm not gaming. Very versatile device.

Hell, if I chose the console, I'd still need another ($$$) device just to post here at GS.

Like what exactly?

Like every other poll in System Wars where PC is pitted against any or all consoles.

So nothing then....

Do I really need to specify that PC will win the poll? It happens every single time without fail. It's usually around a 60/40 split, sometimes more depending on the exact nature of the OP.

PC, because for the 1 or 10 "exceptional" exclusives you get on a console you get access to a near infinite amount of games on PC that you will NEVER have on that said console, plus with emulators console exclusives don't stay exclusive forever, I can play Persona 5 if I wanted to and I don't even have a PS4, just saying, also PCs can do more than just gaming, it is objectively the better platform and no amount of Last of US and God of Wars will change that.

I bought Divine Divinity today for 60 cents. 150+ hours of awesome rpg for 60 cents. Just saying, this whole PC=$1,000,000 4k quadgpu no excloosives narrative is a stupid battleground. I don't own a 4k pc and don't care to have one for a while. It's about 30 years of bc, customization through mods, customization through game settings, customization of hardware, framerate the way you want it, any interface you want, free online... resolution is just one tiny part of the picture

Pretty stupid question considering you can build a PC at 1080p, 1440p, or 4k at a very wide range of a price point from $500 or less to a couple grand. The real answer is get the PC as the main and get the consoles on the side just for exclusives, except xbox since they are all on PC

Geez, if one can spend $1500 on a pc, $300 for a console (if the exclusives appeal to you) should be couch cushion cash.

I guess I can roll with that $1500 ballpark.

My choice would be a PC with a Switch. With Madden coming back to PC and Microsoft’s 1st party being on PC as well, it’s pretty easy. Sony’s 1st party is best enjoyed with a bowl of popcorn and a Twitch stream running, which is easily accomplished on a PC.

Hey Switch fanboys, how's Kirby? Are you waiting for the next "exceptional 1st party content"?

Poor PC gamers, they're stuck with multiplats like DMC5, Cyberpunk 2077, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, etc. No Kirby and some Mario sport games :(

Get the PC, sell it, then buy either a PS4 or a Switch. Maybe both.

Spend a couple hundred on quality exclusives and keep the rest.

They could be the exact same price with the exact same games and I would still pick the console. I just don't like playing games on a PC; never have and never will.
