Junction was an ingenious system, and I liked how it worked (a little difficult, but what the hell), but I voted for Materia because, well, like the topic creator said, it's easy. :P

Well i would have to do with the Grid Sphere System as it was a very well Structured and Basic System to use. I liked how it was set-out and how you could learn any attack, for example:

A white Mage could learn Black Mage Abilities. Now that is a good thing indeed but also a little reckless if you ask me.

My fav system is the Materia, it's one of the keys for ur survival on FFVII, if u learn what to use and where, you're invincible on the game.

For example Final Attack + Phoenix (for example cloud dies but he casts phoenix reviving him and whoever else is dead and making dmg too.

Or w-summon with knights of the round or any summon materia.

Mime perhaps to mimic the last action and cause a lot of dmg if the previous move was strong.

Fancy magic? Use Quadra Magic + ur fav Magic materia.

Or just use a very basic combination like Restore+All.

The materia system, depending on ur materias, chooses ur strategy, I for one, like to decimate my enemies with knights of the round over and over again, while using Final Attack + Phoenix to be invincible as long as I have MP.

Sphere grid was good, but there will be no other system like materia.

I voted for the sphere grid, because it was something creative, and something fun while you level up.

for those who dont know:

junction system- this made levels worthless, say if you put fire as your hp. if you get more fire, your hp increases. the better the spell, the higher the stat. i didnt like this one much.

materia- very easy and you can exchange your materia with other characters so no one is particurly worthless. when aeris left, i gave all her materia( which is their power) to yuffie. so it isnt really pointless having her in your team since you can just give her power to someone else. i liked this feature.

sphere grid- customization and very satisfying. though i got bored near the end with it. this is my favourite out of the three.

the liscence grid for ffxii seems to be the like the sphere grid but more flashy and complexish. im interested in how it turns out.

The Sphere grid was just so massive. It would take a long time to get all your characters to fill up every spot on the grid.

I didnt really see a point to the sphere system, but that may be because i havent played on expert. I think materia was the best because of its simplicity. The junction system was fun and gave more complexity to the Summons.

I gotta go with the materia. Even though leveling some of them was a real chore, it was cool how you get a replica of the one you mastered. At the end of the game you would have sooo many materias. Getting the Master Materia made whoever you gave it too a super bad ass. Last time I played FFVII, I own two sets of master materias. One I did the long way & the other I did the hard yet very short way which was beating one of the Secret Weapon Bosses. I'm not sure if it was Emerald or Ruby but one of them give you an item that you must give to some knuckle head who collects stuff in some town. He ends up giving you a set of master materia, a Golden Chocobo (item you get for beating the other weapon) & something to take the timer off fighting Emerald underwater (forgot what item you gotta give him for that one) which I got after I beat the Emerald weapon which would have helped a whole lot.

I don't understand why the junction system is so unpopular, personally I thought it was the best. I mean, ok, it may look complicated, but the sphere grid looks way more complex. Then again, I haven't played FF X a lot (since I don't have a PS2 :-s), so I never got the hang of it. Even those who don't understand the junction system (poor souls) can still use the auto-option and edit the junctionned magic if necessary. One of the things I liked the best about it was the junction exchange where you could switch magic and junctions between two characters in one step. If you have to move materia between characters on the other hand...

All of the three systems had their own ups and downs, some bigger than others.

The materia system's known and loved by many for its simplicity and ease of use, there wasn't much behind the system, although a few specific combinations could greatly increase the potential of your party.

The junction system, although it may seem hard, it was really quite simple in my eyes, I never could figure out why people had such a hard time with it. Where the materia system and the junction system are alike, is the customizability of each individual character, which is great. But with the junction system, it had more upkeep. As you used  certain magic, certain attributes would diminish, which isn't that much of a big deal if you keep everything in check, but if left unnoticed, you can slowly but surely downgrade your character without even noticing.

The sphere grid, I think this is the most straightforward one, but also the most time consuming when it comes to customizing your character. If you wanted traits that wakka had, for lulu, you'd have to go through a hell of a lot of work to get there. For some people that isn't a problem, since they would work towards the sigils and crests in order to unlock the damage limit breaker. Which is also a nice additive, the first FF (that I played) that allowed you to exceed the 9999 dmg limit.

But all in all, due to its sheer simplicity but yet balanced and ability of customization, I'm going to have to go for the materia system.

My pick goes for the Sphere Grid. To me it was the most vesatile, fun, and the most creative on Square's part. I play all of my FF's for many hours at a time, so it doesn't bother me to take the time to get numerous abilities for all of my characters. Khimari totally rocks with the Mug ability!! He hits hard and steals in one move! The Sphere Grid was a n innovative design in my opinion. Although I also loved the Junction system also. My problem with this was that I would never leave a GF out of battle!

I'm gonna say the Materia system.  In my opinion it was not only the easiest to get the hang of, but it was also the most fun.  I just could never really get into the junction system, and especially not the Sphere Grid.

i cant really say i have a favorite. this will be tough to decide. the fact that they change the system is just wonderful. each time they were able to come out with a system that was unique and easy to use. well at least i thought they were easy to use. but i think i may have to go with the sphere grid just because you could enter the other characters area of the sphere grid and get wide range of abilities with your characters.

I think the Junction was the hardest to get my head around, but once I did it was fine. Materia was fine, easy to use etc. But I always got really excited with the Sphere Grid system, wondering what was coming up next, when I'd get my next HP sphere or Strength sphere, so I'm going to say the SG system, though they're all fine (including IX's, though it's not in the poll).
