I think it is a risky move but could be very good. If shaq is healthy then it will benefit the Suns on actually winning a title. No big man wants to play against shaq period. Shaq in the middle means you can not double team amare especially on the pick and roll play with nash. Shaq takes up space on defense and with Amare assisting him, team are going to have rely on shooting to beat the Suns which will be difficult. Shaq playing on the suns might actually get him into shape. But this all depends on shaq staying healthy till the end of the season. Brian skinner looks good on the floor with nash, you dont think shaq will do better than skinner.

Shaq hasn't been good in two years, he's always getting hurt, and he's old. Bad trade.

this isn't that bad of a trade cause marion wanted to leave and when you think about it they needed a defensive presence.....

the suns dont really play defense, but now they have someone who could be capable of doing it and now stoudamire is moved to pf....

POSITIVES:

- Shaq has the ability to elevate teams to championship level (brought the Magic to the Finals in like 3 years, the Lakers to 3 straight Championships and the Heat to a Championship after 2 years).

- He's a big man and when healthy (he probably will be playoff time) can guard against players like Duncan and Chandler.

- He'll sell more tickets.

NEGATIVES:

- His health, age and weight.

- Can he run with Phoenix's system?

- If you're going to get rid of Marion and Banks, why not try to get a better and younger player than Shaq? Why not go for Okafor or even Chandler or Camby? They're younger, healthier, and better than Shaq now. Perhaps it's because of the contracts, but still. Could've got someone better than Shaq.

Just seems like a panic trade by the Suns. Once they seen the Lakers get Gasol they fealt like they had to make a move.

unless he can get into shape and play 25-30 productive mins/night, it's an awful move by the suns. Marion could have gotten a lot of trade value in return, but they went out and got shaq, who's probably done by the end of this season...shameful

If shaq is healthy then this is a good trade considering that Nash and Amare have 2 years left on their contracts. Its either now or never. They should have gone for Gasol but Memphis wants to clear cap so I dont think it could of happened. They want a title and now is the time or probably never. Diaw needs to step up again to fill in the shoes of Marion and we know that is possible because he did it that year Amare was out. Shaq will not slow the suns down but he will help in the half court offense. Only thing is can Shaq get back on D fast enough.

NO NOT EVEN CLOSE. I think Caron Butler for Kwame Brown was worst. An allstar for absolutly nothing at all. At least shaq will bring something to the table. Kwame brought suck to LA. Hope he never gets a contract ever again. By the way Shaq is still a top 10 center, why because barely any team has a real center.

What's so bad about this trade? The suns needed to this, they can't get past the mavs or the spurs and the way things are going add the lakers to that list playing the style of ball they have been playing, it simply dosent work in the end of the playoffs, THEY HAD to go for a big man, you people need to check what your saying about this being a dumb trade when its not, the fast paced crap wasnt winning no titles, you know that quit being stupid about this.

and if Shaq is healthy he can still play, the heat has had more problems than shaq, so whatever

well they didnt really need Caron Butler with Kobe for scoring and Odom for a rebounding/assisting forward. They needed a center that could play defense now that Shaq was gone, and Caron wasnt an all-star at the time. But yea, Kwame........

Depends what Shaq comes back from injury. Is it over-the-hill, doesn't care, too slow, give me the ball Shaq or will it be team first, defense first, play me only when you need me Shaq. I think he can help but it didnt put the Suns over the hump to win a championship. They had just as much chance as they did with Marion. Also, I thought Kerr was terrible as an announcer (never pointed out anything that wasn't already obvious) and looks like he's going to be terrible as a GM too.

I heard it was because of Marions pesonality. But really how much of a jerk can he be to include him in a dumb trade. And also, according to the trade the Suns had to give another player to match shaqs value? WHAT? So that old has been that is always injured is worth more thatn the all star caliber player THE MATRIX. I thought the Heat was going to add a pick or some other player but I guess it was the other way around. DUMB SUNS. At least now the Spurs can be a little more calm and confident.

Yeah they needed a big man cause Amare cant defend. But, SHAQ? Why not go for Dwight, Chandler, Okafor, there are so many and younger guys that could have been a better option and you know it. Plus remember that Marion is an ex-all star and him plus a pick or a bench warmer could match the value of any of those players.

The only true center in your list is Dwight, as for Chandler and Okafor they Power Foward playing at center. Giving up Marion to get Dwight would not of happen just because the Magic would never give him up. Chandler and Okafor do not bring the same thing Shaq brings and have not proven much to try to win a title. Remember Nash is 34 with 2 years left on his contract, Amare only has 2 years, Its really now or never. Shaq is a big presence in the middle and a True center. He is 35 but I bet every center in the West hates that he is back. As long as he can stay healthy the Suns will benefit big time. Best way to look at it is dont expect him to put huge numbers up but expect Amare to do that since double teaming him will be difficult cause of Shaq on the floor. Plus Nash hooking Amare and Shaq down low, Brian Skinner was looking good on the floor with Nash. Nash Dribbling through the paint and dropping it off to Shaq in the paint, cant stop it. But injuries is what might kill them.

At first I thought this was a terrible trade by the Suns. But now I'm kind of seeing some potential in it.

When Marion's contract expires, he was going to be gone anyways. So might as well do something with him now. And Banks has just never fit in.

People are saying Shaq's too slow and won't fit in with the high tempo Suns. But they won't need him on the fast break. Look at how they played with Kurt Thomas on the floor. Shaq gets the rebound and everyone else breaks.

Also, Shaq will help tremendously with their half-court game. They can't double team him and Stoudamire. And with Nash distrributing, it's a scary looking offence.

Mind you, that all counts on a healthy Shaq.

Here is a good article about how shaq could help them and I couldnt agree more. Their is only one problem and that is can Shaq stay healthy.
