Terrible idea.

The two best teams can't allow their players to play because that'd just be crazy.

Can you imagine someone getting hurt in the Pro Bowl and being out for the Super Bowl?

I really can't see the benefit in this move.

Your thoughts?

Edit: And now it's official.

It's such a bad idea that the person who even suggests it should be fired and blocked from any further employment for as long as they live.

I can't remember the last time I even watched a Pro Bowl. In all of the major sports, it is the worst all star game in my opinion.

In theory, this is supposed to fix that. By having it the week before, you're ready for the big game, pumped up for some football. You're more likely to watch. After the Super Bowl, the excitement is gone and the Pro Bowl is an anti-climactic end to the year, so nobody watches it.

I can see the logic in the idea, but Super Bowl players not playing would be terrible. Still, they could do other things in Hawaii. Hang out, take pictures, participate in the little competitions.

Hawaii's contract with the league runs out this year. This next Pro Bowl will be the last in Hawaii.

Well this can happen in the playoffs. What if your in the NFC Championship, or AFC, you get hurt, out of the game and then your team wins. They go to the Superbowl but you got hurt in the championship so you dont. Its pretty similar. And WallyMartin's logic is pretty good way of seeing why they would do this too.

That's not similar at all. Playoff games count. The Pro Bowl is meaningless.

Forget the rumor!

Miami one week before the Superbowl!

"The Pro Bowl will be played one week before the Super Bowl in 2010 and both games will be staged in Dolphin Stadium. The Pro Bowl will be televised on ESPN at 8 p.m. ET on Jan. 31, 2010."

LOOK AT THIS RIGHT HERE IN THIS PLACE IN PARTICULAR

Well, the idea remains the same. They can still hang out and participate in the festivities, just skip the game.

Awful idea. The Pro Bowl isn't all for the fans. It's for the players too. They get a free trip to hawaii with their families to relax, a reward for the season. So now the super bowl players either A) won't get to enjoy it, or B) have to go back to play the biggest game of the year absolutely awful idea.

Can you provide reasoning?
Well, the idea remains the same. They can still hang out and participate in the festivities, just skip the game.wallymartin
And how many players from the conference championship games are going to want to play a week after their game? So you're basically eliminating the best players from the four best teams. I'd be interested in seeing what players and coaches had to say about this. It just seems like a terrible idea on all fronts. What's the benefit? They're just trying to force this meaningless game upon people who don't care for it anyway. It's equivalent to MLB making the All Star game decide home field advantage JUST so people will watch it.

Yes

Why? People will actually watch it, super bowl players wouldn't care to go because well their preparing for the biggest game of their life. The AFC vs. NFC will actually have a purpose besides the super bowl. I think it's a great idea.

I have trouble believing many more people will watch. It is still a pointless game where the commentators sit and tell us all who aren't in Hawaii how nice it is there.

Except this time they'll be telling us how nice it is in Miami! :P
