I think Roger Goodell is out of his mind for considering getting rid of the kickoff, what do you all think about this?

Lol, I'm pretty sure that would never happen and if it did that might be the final straw with fans.

I doubt it will happen too and it would be the final straw for me most likely.

I just want them to get rid of forward passes. It causes nothing but trouble for my team.

The NFL would be out of their mind if they allow this. A lot of players are only in the league because of their ability to return or defend kickoffs. Devin Hester and Josh Cribbs have been the best return guys of this past decade (maybe of all time). Without kickoffs it's possible they wouldn't even had been discovered by their respective teams. Yes, there are punt returns, but sometimes you make a statement on KR before the coach has you returning punts.

We should remove all plays from scrimmage too. ****'s brutal. Did you know that someone gets hit every single play? Barbaric.

This. We might not have Randall Cobb either. He started out primarily returning kicks for the Packers last year.

Or all tackling could result in heavy fines. Haven't you heard? The best way to lessen injuries is to turn a contact sport into a non-contact sport. I say two-hand touch or flag football all the way. That would get rid of the barbaricness of the sport for sure!

I remember a few years ago they were thinking off getting rid of the extra point kick after a TD, that didn't go to well. Every time they think they want to remove something it just doesn't work out.

It's like Goodell was jealous that David Stern and Gary Bettman were getting worse press than him lately.

Since they moved the spot, most kickoffs are touchback anyways. Its kind of annoying that a team scores a touchdown, you sit through commercials just so they can kick the ball into the back of the endzone and then its commercial time again so the teams can get on the field and line up. I would prefer they move the kickoff spot back to where it was but if they don't I would prefer no kickoff at all. Its just a waste of time.

Plenty of teams are thankfully returning the ball out of the end zone

Obviously i'm not a fan but I doubt this will be Goodell's call in the end. it's probably a ways off but if the competition committee decides there's really not a whole lot he's going to be able to go.

NFL's competition committee consists of Head Coaches and GM's with a sub committee of more coaches/gm's. I understand the safety concerns but unless they are in the back pocket of Goodell, I don't see it happening. It would ensure the loss of NFL players' and coaches' jobs and the NFLPA would never let it happen.

Plenty have taken it all the way or farther than the 20. Even before it was pushed up, some risk is still there.

The reasoning is sound despite my disagreement. At this point, the only thing that can stop the NFL is concussion lawsuits.

I was against the idea until I actually heard what they are going to replace with. Aparently the scoring team will get the ball on it's own 30 in a 4th and 15 and they can decide to go for it or punt the ball. Punt returns are still plenty exciting and it could make for more interesting games down the stretch because lets face it, it's a lot easier to convert a 4th and 15 then it is to recover an onside kick. I'd love to see them do this on a trial basis during next years preseason.

They picked 4th and 15 because it has the same exact success rate as recovering an onside kick does

I still don't want the kickoff replaced, and thought that sounded pretty gimmicky at first. But honestly after thinking about it there's really no other way to maintain excitement, allow a team an opportunityfor recovery, and not severly upset the balance between offense and defense.

That seems too drastic. Players know what they're in for when they go to the NFL. It's dangerous and always will be. Just make them sign a waiver and let them play. Keep upgrading the equipment for safety but don't ruin the integrity of the game.
