And yet there won't be a meaningful game played in the US until the 31st. More exposure is great, but if MLB really wants to make opening day relevant again every team should open on the same day.

New year, new bullshit from Yasiel Puig. He is fortunate he plays in sunny California, if he played in Boston or New York a shit storm of unimaginable proportions would be headed his way at this moment.
So it is looking more likely that Scherzer will no longer be a Tiger next year....
Want him to stay around but he is being a bit of a greedy bastard. He turned down a 6 year, 144 mil deal that would have had him as the 7th highest pitcher in the game.
I know he won the CY last year, but that year seemed unusually good for him even if he is a great pitcher. If Justin is back in form this year he can easily steal back the spotlight from Scherzer and then I feel this refusal might bite him in the ass.

Do the Tigers have pitching prospects to potentially be in the 2015 Tigers rotation?

No idea personally.

From your list I agree with everything but the Houston Astros and Pete Rose.
Tigers and Miguel Cabrera have agreed on a 10-year/$300M contract. Not sure how I'd feel about that if I were a Tigers fan right now.
The contract starts this season so he will be 40 at the end. I don't like the contract. At least he has the DH option.

As a Tigers fan, I am happy knowing that he will be sticking around!
10 year does seem a bit excessive though....
Still, this just means we are basically guaranteed to have him around for the remainder of his good years which consider how great of a hitter he is, that is pretty awesome!
MLB ups length of drug-use bans
Baseball players suspended during the season for a performance-enhancing drug violation will not be eligible for that year's postseason under changes to the sport's drug agreement announced Friday.
In a series of significant changes to the drug rules, Major League Baseball and the players' association said penalties will increase from 50 games to 80 for a first testing violation and from 100 games to 162 for a second. A third penalty remains a lifetime ban.
A player serving a season-long suspension will lose all his pay. Under the previous deal, the Yankees' Alex Rodriguez gets 21-183s of his salary this year, or about $2.8 million.
In-season random urine tests, in addition to the minimum two for each player, will increase from 1,400 to 3,200 overall. There will be 400 random blood collections used to detect human growth hormone in addition to the mandatory one for each player during spring training.

Like it, specially the no post season play. No more Nelson Cruz crap, you are out so stay out.
Still gotta void that contract though.
Mike Trout just signed a 6-year/$144.5M extension. Amazing deal for the Angels. Got to love this move if you're the Angels, locked up the best all-around player in baseball l through the rest of his 20s.
The Tigers better take it all!
They have had a world series team for YEARS now but keep chocking in the end!
Now that they have a proper closing pitcher they best win the World Series!
I was tempted to go Rays over the Tigers.....
So the Tigers took the win on opening day at Comerica Park! Wish I could have been down in Detroit today instead of working...
Well, it wasn't all a disaster. CC went 6 innings sparing the bullpen plus after the first 2 innings he settled down and kept the deficit at 6. Lets built on this.
Here are some quick thoughts on all teams. You will see I emphasize pitching, specially starting pitching which I think it is more important to win the World Series than offense.
Liking the breaking stuff I'm seeing from Tanaka. The homer he gave in the first was on pitch he missed leaving it up and Melky took care of it. Since them he has been consistently down in the zone. Plus Solarte has been making the most of his opportunity in the bigs.

The thing is, the Tigers made a smart decision when they saw Clayton Kershaw sign for 30mil a year. It's been awhile since salaries have seen that big a jump, and it stands to reason they'll continue to increase. There's no doubt they're going to be unhappy with that contract after age 38, but it's better than getting pushed to give him 35 mil a year when he was supposed to hit free agency.

The only thing that bothers me about the contract is the length. He is turning 31 in less than two weeks. That is a long contract for someone his age ESPECIALLY at that salary who is liable to start backsliding in the next few years...
Still happy to have him locked up considering he is such a great player!
Speaking of the Tigers, really loving the changes they made especially considering I expect the team to get even stronger as the season goes on and they all settle into the new gameplan.
Picking up Kinsler is looking to have been a damn good decision. Man is proving himself to be VERY useful.
Overall really liking the new strategy. They definitely seem to be connecting with those pitches more and are getting a lot of doubles and triples. Even with at least a couple bad offensive decisions today that cost some outs/potential runs they managed to pull 10 freaking runs in todays game, albeit the Orioles pitching was pretty damn awful...

no one is worth 10 years anything once they are on the wrong side of 30 unless you start juicing like bonds and clemens (both who i think should be in hof along with pete rose just incase you think im insulting bonds and clemens) and $300mil???? i learned with the a-rod trade that no one is worth over $175 mil
@jsmoke03: I'll never agree about the HOF, but it's never really about worth with contracts, it's about doing enough to keep your players. Here's the interesting thing about WAR, though. Right now, based on average salary and the cost of every win above replacement, Miguel Cabrera is worth more to the Tigers than 30 million dollars a year. So, in the end, I imagine the contract's going to balance out. Also, with the DH, it's entirely possible he stays productive, not likely, but possible. Just look at David Ortiz. He's more the exception than the rule... But still...
Good way to start a season, 2 straight series wins and one of them against the Nats.
Though, what happened to Ryan Zimmerman? Is it a physical thing or is it mental?
@Ring_of_fire: He's been having nagging shoulder issues for some time now, which like most injuries of that nature, presumably get worse when it's cold outside.
Even with that terribad 9th inning the Tigers have kept their win streak going!
Definitely need to see this team take the World Series. I am definitely hopeful that the team is moving in that direction. Gotta get a bit more settled, but the new hitting strategy has been pretty awesome.
@Master_Live:
What you're going to do about the DH rule? Its kind of odd seeing the white sox playing the rockies in April.
Well we wouldn't have as many, if any, Interleague Games but as far as the DH rule its stays. The union would never let the DH go because DH guys get significant salaries too. Those jobs ain't going nowhere, at best it is status quo at worst the NL gets the DH too. There is no going back.

I'm in favor of NL getting the DH rule.
The problem with having two different DH rules in each league, at least to me, is the fact that NL teams are at a disadvantage when handing out long-term contracts. In the AL teams can sign sluggers into their late 30s-early 40s with plans to stash them at DH late in their careers when their physical skill set starts to decline and the risk of injury increases. NL teams don't have that option and in turn, and end up with even more worries with the added risk that a pitcher, particularly an older one, may injury themselves at-bat or on the basepaths. Add in all the awkward adjusting teams are having to do all year round and I just see it as a matter of time before the NL has to adopt the DH as well.
On a personal level I think the game would have probably been better off had the rule never been adopted at all, but it's too stooped into the game and too MLBPA protected to turn their back on now. Besides it'd take forever to phase of the game, unless you want to try to tell the Angels and Tigers they can't stash Pujols and Cabrera at DH 10 years from now like they had planned when they gave out those deals.
Just wanna say: LOL YANKEES!
Find it funny how blown out they got by the freaking Orioles...
This Tigers game is intense. Going to 10th inning! Chamberlain really impressed me that 9th inning. If he can keep pitching like that I will be VERY happy to keep him around on the team.
Okay I have to ask this question, why the **** do the Tigers insist on keeping Phil Coke around? Everytime he fucking comes on the mound he fucks things up. I literally have never seen him pitch and not blow the game...
