What do you think was the hardest sonic game ?

For me it was sonic unleashed I mean I really enjoyed the game but it just got so darn hard like in eggmanland I must have died 20 or 30 times

Wii version was considerably easier than the PS360 version.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for the Game Gear is often labeled as the hardest Sonic game, but I've never played it.

The hardest Sonic game I played was Sonic and Knuckles. If it weren't for the save feature in the Mega Collection Plus, I wouldn't have even gotten to the Flying Battery Zone because of that dang second boss; and the game just progressively gets harder.

Sonic Unleashed really isn't that bad in terms of difficulty. The day stages are easy, and the night stages were a bit harder, but more... frustrating. Not difficult, but frustrating due to the fact that you have a bunch of monsters coming out along with witches that make even more monsters to come your way and... well... it just gets really frustrating.

Silly noobs who think Unleashed was hard. I'm 29 years old. You don't know what hard is! You kids today with our auto saves and regenerating health. Bah! Go play something REALLY hard like the NES Ninja Gaiden, Battletoads, Castlevania (the first NES game), or Ghosts N' Gobblins. In my day we didn't have google to look up cheat codes and walkthroughs, we had to pay 0.99 a minute to go on the Nintendo Power hotline. If you wanted to beat a game you either had to write down ridiculously hard codes or play for 8 hours straight because you turned that machine off, you started from zero!

I had to walk 10 miles...in the snow...up a hill..both ways...with no shoes..so I could get Super Mario Bros. 3. I had to kill a grizzly bear with my wired NES controller.

Where was I? Oh yeah, hard Sonic game.

Well the general consensus is Sonic 2 on the Game Gear is the hardest, non broken Sonic game. The Master System version is slightly easier with a wider screen (go download it on the VC for 500pts if you dare). There's no special stages, the emeralds are hidden throughout the levels. First of all you probably won't get past the first boss. Robotnick saves you from a bath in lava just to throw you to a boss you can't attack. You have to dodge the canonballs falling for so long before you continue on.

Then you have to try to fly hangliders which takes looking at instructions to figure out.

Then you manuver a slow moving bubble in a water stage around super fast spears and foes.

And Green Hills act 3 which is a series of timed springboard jumps and tons of spikes.

And Scrambled Egg zone...ha ha ha ha ha

All the boss robots you fight with zero rings including the final boss.

And let me say that when I got to Robotnick at the end I had 10 lives and 3 continues and used them ALL and still didn't beat him.

Sonic 3 was the first game on my Genesis that I could save. If you died in anything else, you started ALL over. Crazy kids an your flashy graphics and your save files and your hard drives and wireless controllers and your difficulty settings. You couldn't set BattleToads or Contra on easy or anything....*tear*

Hardest Sonic 2 on Game Gear definety. I mean the first boss explains everything and well Aqua Lake is rock hard. Getting to the boss in Green Hills was an effort in itself. Then I'd say Advance 2 is after it because getting the Special Rings is hard and Sky Canyon is evil espically the boss.

Most frustrating Secret of the Rings: It is on rails and that Captain Bemoth boss drove me insane and took me 10 minutes to do. Also the Egg quest in Dino Jungle the less said the better.

Definitely Sonic 2, GG. That freaking barrel in Carnival Night Zone Act 2 in S3 gave me hell when I was younger, though...sonicphc

I heard that so many people were stuck on the Carnival Night barrel that the Sega hotline when you called it literally said "Welcome to the Sega hotline, to get past the barrel in Carnival night Zone act 2...."kbaily

But no, Sonic 3's barrel was nothing compared to the parts of the Sonic games where you had exactly 0 rings. This made the end bosses in Sonic 2 (Genesis) extremely hard, and in Sonic 2 GG it made the very first boss a pain in the azz to beat.:x 

On a similiar note I should've never played sonic Spinball.-_-

The first Sonic on Genesis was hard on me. The only level that prevent me from moving on was Labyrith Zone. That water level became a nightmare. ...And it still is.

Sonic 2, I got through just fine until Silver Sonic then Robotnik after. Sonic 3 got the through the zones with ease, not much trouble with the last battle. Sonic and Knuckles got a problem with Sandopolis Act 2 inside the pyramid and the last battle of both Mecha Sonic and Robotnik.

I haven't been able to play Sonic and Sonic 2 or any other games on the Gamegear all the way. I don't remember really, but I think I had played them when I was little. It either got lost or broke. But, yeah. I'd say the Gamegear ones are a challenge.

The only boss I found hard in Adventure 2 was the Biolizard and in Sonic Heroes the Egg Emperor.chocolate1325

I used to have trouble with the Biolizard, but once you get down the routine for beating him, he only takes a couple of tries. The Egg Emporer however... hahaha..... let's just say that I STILL haven't beaten that with Team Chaotix, and I've owned Sonic Heroes for about six or seven years....
