EDIT: We have confirmation! :D

Information

  • Huge budget
  • They mention Akira, but it's not really clear if he's in Transformed
  • Each character can be levelled up through five ranks. Filling up the All-Star gauge with on-track moves earns you XP as well as granting access to your character's All-Star power; each level unlocks stickers and achievements as well as perk-style vehicle mods which can be equipped to alter the handling characteristics of your favourite characters.
  • As few Mario Kart item clones as possible

Characters

  • Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, and Eggman from Sonic's universe
  • Amigo from Samba de Amigo
  • Beat from Jet Set Radio
  • B.D. Joe from Crazy Taxi
  • Gilius Thunderhead from Golden Axe (New!)
  • Vyse from Skies of Arcadia (New!)
  • this will have 27 characters, altogether (The original had 21 + Metal Sonic, Mii/Avatar, Ryo F, and Banjo)
  • "These 27 characters will be unlocked in a new single-player adventure mode which is "inspired by games like Mario Galaxy"
Levels
  • Dragon Canyon, based off of Panzer Dragoon

http://kotaku.com/5884388/start-your-engines-for-sonic--sega-all+stars-racing-sequel

It seems that there will be new characters and new vechiles.

Now we just have to wait for SEGA to make an official announcement.

I wonder if this means we'll see Mario exclusive to the Wii version?

I will honestly say that Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing was a decent game and had a lot of potential to compete with the Mario Kart. Though the first needs some improvements, mainly better characters and more familiar ones. People want not only a few more Sonic pals like Silver and Blaze but Nights, Gillius, Toejam and Earl and Ristar. And NOBDODY LIKES BIG THE CAT, SEGA!!The online needs work and definite improvements on the battle mode. As well as a bit more variety in the themes of the stages as opposed to 3 variations of Seaside Hill, Casino Night, Egg Carrier, downtown Tokyo.

Yeah I will say, there won't be a Wii version but there will be a WiiU/3DS version. Though I agree that if they end up putting crummy Car Banjo in the 360 version again, then let the PS3 and Nintendo versions have an exclusive character as well. Supposedly they could've put Mario in the first game but because this is Sega and they're morons were afraid that having Mario in the racing game would take away from the Olympics crossover they were also doing. Stupid Sega. So put Mario in the WiiU version and for the PS3 version my guess is they'd go with Ratchet or Sackboy.

I don't even own the first one yet. I've only rented it. It's a really good game though and about as good as the Mario Kart series. With the sequel coming out, I really need to get of these games sometime. And as mentioned, Mario as a Wii/Wii U/3DS exclusive character would be pretty interesting.

Like most multiplatform Sonic games, it sold best on the Wii, hence why more used Wii copies are abound. If Generations had had a Wii port, it would've sold the best.

If it sold over a million. Though I am surprised Nintendo waited this long for a Player's Choice collection where Xbox and PS3 did it within a year of releasing games for the new consoles.

Not quite struggle, more like struggle with people who want games to be dropped to twenty dollars when they're still selling at fifty. Mainly, because they don't quite want to cater to the "we think your games are okay but won't buy them at full value because we don't think they're worth it" crowd, they want the "we think your games are worth fifty dollars and will prove it by buying them for fifty dollars" crowd. Thus, the reason I don't complain about greatest hits, because I'm in the former crowd to some extent, and really have no right to complain.

My idea of game shopping is this...

If I really really want it, then I'll buy it at full price. This is my feeling of most 1st party Nintendo games because they are usually worth the price.

Sometimes if I'm on the fence, I'll read some reviews, play a demo if possible and go from there.

If I'm sort of interested but not dying then I'll wait for a price drop used or otherwise.

For a long time I refused to spend full price for Sonic games because they were crap. I either asked someone to get one as a gift (their money not mine) or waited to dig it out of a used bin only until recently when the games started getting good again. Though both Colors and Generations I didn't have to pay for. Colors was bought with a pile of Walmart gift cards I had accumulated during Christmas 2010 and was still second choice because the stores were out of Donkey Kong Country returns and as most of you know, I got the 3DS version of Generations by my well meaning but sometimes inept father who somehow got PS3 and 3DS mixed up (you figure it out) and I went to exchange willing to pay the difference only to find that in that time the price had dropped so I got a full trade.

However I did pay full price for Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing but did not regret it though Sega was nice to shave $10 off the initial release price.

It's official.

http://www.sonicstadium.org/2012/04/sonic-amp-all-stars-racing-transformedannounced/#more-26604

Right now they're saying for 360, PS3 and Vita (*giggles*) though it wouldn't surprise me if a WiiU port is shown at E3.

Though the big addition that is shown off is the cars will transform into boats and planes much like we've seen in Diddy Kong Racing and Mario Kart 7. Also they're saying more frachises like Panzer Dragoon and Skies of Arcadia will be shown off as well as Golden Axe meaning Gillius Thunderhead may return to be playable as he was in their tennis game.

However I can't help but wonder if not confirming a WiiU version means we might see a Sega/Nintendo crossover racer? Hey stranger things have happened. Who would've thought we'd get a Playstation version of SSB? Just sayin.

And the 3DS.

Hmm... I did enjoy the first one, so if it comes out for the Wii U, I'll pick it up for that. If not, I'll go for the 3DS version since that has taken over most of my gaming these days.

whoever was in charge of trailer music needs to be fired

Why? in the bloody world is there dubstep music in this trailer? Jeez, it works for some games, not everything. Unless it's an actual track... still I doubt how that would fit, even in Jet Set Radio.

Any link to where you can enter the art contest. I might take a stab at that.

Also since this is the thread for it time for wish lists for characters to see in this.

For me

  • Blaze
  • Ristar
  • Nights
  • Toejam and Earl
  • System exclusive characters again. Maybe Ratchet on PS3 or Mario on WiiU if that comes to pass

And I hope they work on the online multiplayer and improve on the battle mode, if you're going to compete with the likes of Mario Kart and the upcoming modnat...er Little Big Planet Karting you got to show you can though I think like the first they'll push the 360 version given there's no exclusive kart racer to compete with on that platform except Kinect Joy Ride. lol

Though here's a great vid where we get a really good rundown of what to expect.

http://www.gametrailers.com/video/behind-the-sonic/729716

The big empahsis and the reason a lot of folks prefer this over MK is the fact that it tries to focus on winning through skill more than luck and avoiding insta-kill weapons, a better physics engine and he says it's coming to the 3DS as well as "other platforms."

I'm almost for certain going to pick this up for the exact reason you mentioned, kbaily: It's a kart racer where skill trumps luck 90% of the time rather than 50%. It's also got a better sense of flow than MK, I feel.

ZOMG THIS A MARIO KART RIP OFF :P

In all honesty though, I actually really enjoyed the first game and it was a nice change of pace.
That, and it was really colorful.
A nice break from all those shooters at the time

Plus, I'd rather get this then wait for Mario Kart Wii U

It is amusing to go to other sites and see people whine about it ripping off Mario Kart just like Playstation All Stars Battle Royale is ripping off Smash Bros. and in the end, who really cares? Yeah there are some really crummy Mario Kart clones out there that cut rate companies did just to make a buck like M&M's Kart Racing, Madagascar Karts and, well Sonic Drift. But when a game borrows the MK forumla and not only does it well but throws in their own things to liven it up, is it really that bad.

Lots of games out there basically ripped off another game's formula. World of Warcraft basically copied Everquest but made the experience more approachable for casual players. The majority of fighting games out there basically copied Street Fighter. Nearly every 2D platformer INCLUDING SONIC built off Mario's original formula. Then most 3D platformers borrowed again from Super Mario 64.

So next time you're on another forum and someone's whining about someone ripping off someone else's formula just remind them that a game they liked probably copied something before it.

I sort of disagree. To be honest...I think people are just mad because all they can do is whine because they dont have an Xbox/PS3 to play these "rip offs"
3D Dot heroes, for example, was FANTASTIC
and the people that actually played the game didnt care if it ripped of Zelda
Plus, the industry is built off of innovation, so elements will be used in different games in new ways to keep the gamers happy.
Whether or not a company uses the innovation to their advantage to make a good game... thats up to them now isnt it?
Like Sonic 1
Jumping on enemies
Jumping on platforms
Mario Bros much?
Not exactly
Sega added enough though to make Sonic 1 new and fresh

Same thing with the original Sega Allstars Racing

Sega added enough content and idea while using ideas from Mario Kart to make it stand independently from other racers on the market.
Thats how I feel about it

Of course, the truth is, all of them ripped off Pong. Because Pong was a video game, and every game after that took the very idea of making a digital game and modified it to their own choosing. So, they're all rip-offs. Actually, I think even Pong is, some game came out before them, except it was just data, not a game proper.

http://blogs.sega.com/2012/04/30/sonic-all-stars-racing-transformed-changes-the-rules-of-racing/

Also, here is everything we know so far about this game:

Racers

  • There will be 27 characters altogether. Right now we know of 12:
  • -Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Eggman, Beat, B.D. Joe, AiAi, and Amigo are the currently known returning characters
  • -Gilius Thunderhead of Golden Axe and Vyse of Skies of Arcadia are 2 new racers
  • -it's been confirmed that not characters from the original will be in Transformed
  • -characters will be unlocked in some sort of Adventure Mode, where you travel to different SEGA universes, supposedly represented onscreen as floating islands

Courses

  • -Super Monkey Ball?s Temple Trouble
  • -Panzer Dragoon'sDragon Canyon
  • -all levels will be unique and not variations of each other like in the original
New Features
  • -All Star Moves have been changed and can be used online
  • -A new weapons system including a new item that drops stuff in front of people ahead of you
  • -music remixes
  • -to transform, you have to go through portals

Misc Info

  • They've been working on the game for a year and a half

Not all characters returning? They better mean that they're dumping Big, not Shadow (as Shadow was actually useful). Also, what's his name, guy from Shenmue (I think it was Shenmue) needs to return.

I'm looking forward to this. Would probably want to buy this one as soon as possible.

Something from the interview on IGN:

"Other aspects have been refined, so now instead of SEGA miles you earn points for your chosen character that feed into a levelling system, unlocking various trinkets and vehicle mods. Though the focus is still on split-screen multiplayer, there are now online races, supporting up to eight players, with a range of modes and options to customise your race experience. For lone players, there's an extensive Story mode with 16 new tracks spread across a number of different SEGA worlds, represented here by floating islands. Four favourites from the original game also return, including Jet Set Radio Future's Shibuya and the Death Egg track which was released as downloadable content."

So basically we have 16 new tracks + 4 remixed versions of tracks from the first game.

SOL, aka Sumo Digital?s Executive Producer Steve Lycett (SOL is his username on Sonicstadium's Forum), said that these are not the only tracks in the game but only what they've revealed so far.
