Shadow Warrior Redux, quite hard compared to Duke3d.
If you count Remasters to some degree (not 7th gen to 8th gen ones) then Resident Evil Remaster, Doom and Doom II (particularly the No Rest for the Living added campaign.) I'm also looking to set my Saturn back up after my PS3 stint so I can return to Battle Garegga and Deep Fear.
Perhaps not old school enough I'd imagine, but I'm playing Max Payne 2. And wow, for a game that only came out a few years after the first one it looks amazing in comparison. Really reminds you that back then sequels were massive leaps over their predecessors rather than being glorified expansion packs.
playing some old school fps on pc. Blood and Hexen ( and reminded me how much better single plaer fps games were back then )
On a related note I've been watching Gggmanlives Youtube channel recently. An aussie guy who covers everything FPS from the ancient to the modern AAA and even indie. I'd seriously consider checking the channel out because it's become my go to place for retro shooter recommendations.
I've switched it up this week and am playing with a friend the Golden Axe Vintage Collection and Dungeons and Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara. Golden Axe has always been "meh" to me thanks to the perfection of Streets of Rage, but Mystara is pretty cool. I know jack about Dungeons and Dragons, but it's a pretty fun beat 'em up, and apparently, it's on the Saturn too.
@Renegade_Fury: Yup it is, that's how I first tried it. It's one of the 4MB cart games (the 2nd game is anyhow.) Somehow it felt like the only beat'em up where the language barrier bugged me a little. I've been meaning to peek in on the rerelease in english. Too bad the PS3 disc didn't include english text like some of Capcom's other Japanese retail prints.
@Exceed20XX: With all of the choices and options, I can definitely see how the language barrier would be a problem. It's kind of like Guardian Heroes in that sense, but I think you could still get by a little easier in that game if you were playing it in a different language.
@Renegade_Fury: Mhm, I would think so. Infact Guardian Heroes is why I got it, I heard they were somewhat similar at some point far back and I found it for a good price before it got out of hand. With Guardian Heroes the language barrier mostly prevented you from going a deliberate route if you didn't understand the text at the junctions. The Capcom D&Ds however also factor in actual equipment along with route selection iirc, it's been a little while since I played it. I really should jump back in when I set the Saturn back up.
I've been playing some Mega Man, Sonic, and Thunder Force lately. Nothing I'm overly involved with as they are all games I've played before.
Most recent were:
Legend of Zelda (had to use restore points on the later dungeons, sorry folks, I know I committed a sins!)
Kirby's Dream Land
Donkey Kong Country
Next I want to do Metroid
Yeah, I never played a lot of games back when I was little so my Nintendo playing is far behind. The only games I played were Mario64 and Star Fox64 so I have some catching up to do.
Also, why is it called old "school"? Anyone know?
finished dragons lair on snes and festers quest nes yesterday.
Tried to play krion conquest today, I heard it was a solid mega man clone so I thought I would give it a shot. The game was pretty horrendous though so I decided to start playing adventure island 2 on the nes instead, super fun game, I just need to find a few hours to sit down and play through the whole thing.
There's a few retro games I want to play for the first time:
Wonderboy-The Dragon's Trap
contra (yes I know shame on me)
blaster master
shock troopers
comix zone
I recently played Pac-Man 2 for the SNES. it was a really weird game. but i actually quite enjoyed it. the control system is really weird, but all the animations are funny enough that i had to keep playing.
Check out my review of it on my website. i would really appreciate some feedback on it. www.deadpark.com (sorry about the shameless plug)
I've been playing Spyro A Heroes Tail on the PS2. Finished it the yesterday Not a bad game at all and definitely better in my opinion than a lot of the negative to low average reviews it had gotten at the time. I'd give it a 7/10.
Probably gonna start a save in Seiken Densetsu 3/Secret of Mana 2 next as I had recently bought a translated reproduction cart of it.
Returning once more to The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. It's been a while since the days I would constantly run through this. On the final dungeon already.
@Exceed20XX: think I'll give that another go. I played that for the first time two years ago but got bored and lost 30 minutes into it.
Been running around in Metal Gear Solid 3, having finished Resident Evil Remake and A Link to the Past not too long ago. Also playing Half-Life 2 (can't believe it's past 10 years old already!)
I've been playing Alien Soldier, Battle Mania: Daiginjou, and Gley Lancer lately. Phenomenal games, and they all have such kick ass soundtracks too.
Currently playing Okamiden. I'm 17 hours in and I've reached the Moon Cave. So far, the game is really good and a faithful successor to Okami.
@juboner:
The wiiu one? I can't deal with that lag.
I've been on Pilotwings 64. Nintendo should do this proper on wiiu.
@Heirren: I checked it very closely last night just on the gamepad screen and I could not detect any, very responsive. No where near a cheap lcd tv. There is a deadspot in the middle but I think that is to be expected, not sure if actual wii U games have this deadspot but it would make sense to emulate the n64 stick imo.
Got to drop some time into Sonic Jam and Battle Garegga recently while doing some equipment tests for issues.
I just started Fallout about a week ago, my first FO was FO3 on the PC and I enjoyed it, but never got into FONV for some reason. I'm also trying to wrap up Star Ocean: Till the End of Time for about the 5th try, I've probably sank over 400 hours into that game over the last decade; I keep restarting after 100 hours for some reason, but I'm near the final boss so I'm determined to make it through and get to some of the end game content :)
@zyxe: I enjoyed FO3 a lot but found NV even better, at least in terms of the advancements to the core gameplay itself. I'm curious, what threw you off from NV? Also on a side note if you decide to jump into FO2 there's some patches floating around restoring lost content and fixing other bits up, may be worth a hunt if you end up digging FO1. :D
@Exceed20XX: Thanks for the heads up! I didn't get into NV because I purchased it but was going through a really rough time personally, and I haven't had patience for the longer RPGs until recently. I'm enjoying FO, but realized I probably shouldn't try to take on the deathclaw queen at level 5 lol...I killed the surrounding dudes but she was a bit rougher to hit! *ahem* Thanks for the heads up on the patches on FO2, are there any you'd recommend right off the bat?
@zyxe: For FO2? There's the Restoration Project patch and one that brings the game up to modern compatibilities and high resolution. Depending on what version you're playing you may have the latter patch automatically included. I got to play FO2 with one of the modern reprints I found cheap and I think that disc incorporated the hi res patch officially.
