Can we all atleast agree Trump is doing what he thinks is right for this country? I mean he was on top of the world and very popular. Now he is being ostracized and bullied. He took a paycut too being President.

Now the main reason I support him is the economy and he makes me feel good about myself.

He is not a saint and I don’t think he claims to be.

Regarding the wall it hurts to see people who want to work struggling but I guess it makes sense when many people send money back to Mexico? I don’t quite understand it but don’t hate Trump for doubling down on border protection policies of others to keep America rich.

Also think of it this way, there is a line to get into America. Should a guy in India have to wait because some Mexican skipped (a lot of Mexicans do the legal process though to be fair).

I think America is a very fair nation with its immigration policy. We will take anyone as long as they want to work. Some places like Asian countries will only take the best and brightest like Japan.

Populist socialist candidates like Mr. Sanders who may be a phenomenal guy are clinging to policies that just don’t work.

I don’t think anyone wants war with the Iranian people but they have a corrupt government and the people are revolting. Trump is pulling out of Middle East a lot while keeping us strong.

Iran was just bullying our friend Israel and causing mischief in the region as well as oppressing its own people. I think Trump will do whatever it takes to deescalate tension but will not bow in the face of evil.

Trump is more socially moderate letting states decide on the issues like gay marriage which is brilliant politically.

I think most Trump haters are just mad they are not millionaires, models, actors, athletes, etc you get the point. We all had dreams like I wanted to develop games.

Just because you don’t have your dream job doesn’t mean you don’t have a relatively good life. So many people like the ones trying to get into this country have it much worse. Be happy with your life and don’t resent or lust after what you don’t have. I work a minimum wage job but I am just happy to have a job

May I ask you what your leanings are? If you'd rather not say, that is completely fine by me. I take you more as a rightwing Libertarian or Republican and I somewhat lean the same way.

Also, while not all users on here prefer to be nicer when it comes to politics, I appreciate you trying.

He is an incompetent, digusting, horrible leader and a complete embarrassment. He does not give a damn about passing laws or policy, has abused women his whole life, has now involved us in yet another middle eastern conflict, and several members of his administration are now in prison. He is completely awful. All he does is make fun of people on twitter and lie about how great he is. A complete egomaniac and total ass hole.

They don't like to admit Obama's shit-tier presidency got him elected, at least without blaming it on muh racism.

Trump, much like a strong portion of the bernie camp represents the worst of politics.

  • Economic isolationism, when free trade is key to a thriving modern capitalist economy.
  • Inability to view the big picture.
  • Black and White thinking.
  • Rampant promotion of psuedoscience.
  • Conspiracy Theories Galore
  • Obnoxious partisanship

I know this is a troll post, but I can't help myself.

the "TL;DR" version of why I hate Trump is simply because I love this country, but he makes me ashamed and embarrassed to be an American. My country has done some shitty stuff in its own interests but never have we put our faith in such an unqualified, inhuman creature. Trump represents failure.

@tomalevine said:

For the country? No, dude, he is doing this for himself.

Also, Trump is a bully, he is not the bullied. Every single president. Every. Single. One. Takes criticism from the public and media. But from day one Trump's ego wouldn't accept this occupational hazard, so instead he turns around and bullies people; he makes fun of his own supporters at rallies, he makes judgemental opinions on a reporter's appearance, he tells people to beat their opposition up.

Paycut? That was a publicity scheme lol.

@tomalevine said:

How on earth does Trump make you feel good about yourself?

@tomalevine said:

I think America is a very fair nation with its immigration policy. We will take anyone as long as they want to work. Some places like Asian countries will only take the best and brightest like Japan.

The wall is a publicity stunt. Not surprising coming from a president who only cares about ratings.

I sort of agree with you, though; we need to stay strong with our immigration policy. With that said, America has a pretty strict one that presents a lot of challenges.

For starters, no; it is not "a line". There are a few different ways we accept people into the country. People with skills are given priority. I believe if you are an asylum seeker you might have a better chance. If you have family you have a better chance to get in.

Even general immigration isn't a line (it's actually a lottery, iirc). I agree though the US doesn't have the worst policy out there.

Keep in mind, however, that Trump has little to nothing to do with this policy outside of bringing attention to it.

@tomalevine said:

*sigh* Why is socialism a four-letter word in the US these days? Some of the US's best programs are socialist, such as, oh I don't know:

  • Fire and police services
  • Park and Forest services
  • Public transportation
  • Libraries
  • Social security
  • Medicare/medicaid
  • Public toilets, public parking, public everything...
  • Oh, and I don't know, how about EVERY SINGLE BRANCH OF THE MILITARY. Yes, America, the people you are [rightfully] proud of and that we spend more than the next ten nations combined on are a bunch of socialists...

Socialist policies do work. America is an example of that. The problem is we don't have enough of them in areas that count. We need more socialist programs. We need to stop being scared of taking care of ourselves and eachother.

Trump is betraying our middle-eastern allies by pulling out.

Think of it this way: you and your friend decide to host a party. You are both excited and your friend decides to have the party at his house. A whole lot of people show up and it's a good time, but some stuff was broken, and there is a general mess. When the party is over and the people leave, you look around and see the mess. You look to your friend and say "Well, you got this, I think I'm going to leave. Have fun!"

You would be a pretty shitty friend if you did that, yes? That's Trump. Except instead of a party, it's a country, and instead of a mess to clean up, it's all the angry people you fought that are now going to kill your friend.

@tomalevine said:

Trump wants to have his cake and eat it too, which while ideal generally means someone else is getting screwed.

In this case, Trump might technically let states decide, but this is only after supporting bigots, racists, and other terrible people.

I don't hate Trump because I am not successful, I hate Trump because he sells people the very lie you presented above.

There is no American Dream. Most of us can work as hard as we possibly can, and we won't be millionaires. The old adage of "believe in yourself" or "work hard" and "anything can happen if you put your mind to it" is bullshit, and needs to be put down.

Trump sold this country a bunch of lies and brainwashed the American people into fervent nationalism.

Trump is the epitome of privilege, of being born into wealth. He does not represent us.

I hate Trump because he is in a position where the best of America should be representing us, but instead he is the worst of what America has to offer.

Trump is the outsider that the political/govt/media establishment told us we couldn't have, but we elected him against their express instructions.

So the establishment has spent every minute since his election whipping up the hate, loathing and fear of Trump I believe you are asking to be explained. Sadly, there is a significant segment of the population that has succumbed to this, and believe this nonsense that Trump is a traitor-racist-misogynist-criminal-incompetent wannabe dictator.

Trump is a pompous, bombastic ass. But he is not a traitor. He is not a racist. He may be a womanizer, but he is not a misogynist. He is not a criminal. He is not incompetent. And he is not trying to become a dictator.

Trump has accomplished a lot of good things for our country, despite the insane, desperate, unhinged opposition. And I believe he is headed for re-election. Because he has not betrayed the people that voted for him, and many who were skeptical and couldn't take the chance on him in 2016 realize that all the terrible predictions about Trump have not come true, and he really has done some good.

I nodded in agreement as conservatives lectured that Bill Clinton's infidelity and dishonesty made him unfit for the office.

I acknowledged that Republicans could have been coming from a genuine patriotic stance as they claimed they couldn't vote for Kerry because the swifboat claims just might be true.

I shrugged as they shouted about the deficit under Obama because maybe they truly didn't understand the principles at play.

I thought they may be genuinely concerned about Hillary's alleged corruption.

Then came the lying, unfaithful, draft dodging, cheating, deficit ballooning Trump who shattered all of that.

I hate Trump because he proved that the conservative movement's professed principles are bullshit. He proved that it's members are selfish people who will do anything for more money and power.

1. The economy doing well isn't reflecting how our citizens are doing. Suicide rates, Drug overdoses are up and life expectancy is down. Job benefits have all but gone away. Jobs are being automated away. Genuinely asking: Do you think the common employee has benefitted at all from the tax breaks the super-rich are getting? Absolutely not. It stays at the top and doesn't trickle down to the bottom.

2. Trump always seems to put his foot in his mouth. He is a constant stream of racism and sexism, which in turn makes his supporters look bad for supporting someone like that. Could you imagine if Obama had done that? We wouldn't hear the end of it.

3. The wall doesn't solve anything. It really doesn't so please stop using illegal immigrants as a scapegoat for this country's problems. What it does do is help turn this country into a more authoritarian state. First, it's closed borders and then it snowballs from there.

4. Let's not forget he was impeached by the house and if republican senators can drop their obvious bias, he would have been impeached by the Senate already.

Yes, I am on the left (not the extreme left) and I honestly can tolerate a republican as president. You win some you lose some. Yet at the end of the day, Trump is a reflection of everything wrong in this country and if you genuinely believe in any of the garbage he is spewing out then I genuinely feel bad for you for being so gullable.

@mattbbpl: 10000000% spot on. If Trump just ran like a typical republican president, No one would care. I'd tolerate it. Instead, He takes everything to such an extreme that only fanatics can tolerate him. Everyone else knows exactly the kind of POS he is. He's brought this country backwards.

@tomalevine: "Can we all atleast agree Trump is doing what he thinks is right for this country?"

Lol **** no!

"He took a paycut too being president. "

No he didn't, he has absolutely used the power of the presidency to enrich himself, his businesses, and his family. Every time he stays at Mara Lago or goes to golf at one of his resorts he transfers tax payer dollars into it to pay for his stays. He's made about something like 300 million dollars doing this. He's had multiple people, including Mike Pence and people in the military do this.

I can't with the rest of this post. You start out with things that are blatantly false and move on to how he makes you feel good about yourself without going into details about how or why. And honestly this is probably from an alt account.

1. Just the left? He has one of the highest average disapproval of all time.

2. Many of his biggest policy positions/ideas poll very very poorly. It can't just be the left when certain gun control policies have 70-90% approval.

3. His global approval is in the toilet as well. Can't just be the American Left.

This isn't rocket science.

They are too chicken to take on right wing beliefs and polocies, so they make it all about the leader. At least the "left wing" media is. The right wing media is much more assertive with what they stand for and that they hate and disrespect everything about the left. So, the left doesn't really have as good representation. Race and class and lgbtq seems to play a big factor in all this.

@narlymech: Rightwing beliefs and policies going back at least 30 years have been countlessly analyzed and critiques. There’s plenty of academic literature out there that exposes these ideas, especially the economic ones, as frauds.

Every minute the media focuses on Trump is less time focusing on other issues, world affairs, or anything else in general. I'm sort of forced into it as is everybody else. My issue is with the media. Just look at how many threads here are focused on Trump.

From the start this topic was bull. trump is doing for trump. Not the country. I don't waste my time with hate but I am totally against this man as president. He's incompetent. Has no clear political views. Can't stay on point. Rambles.....speaks like he's uneducated.....sows hate and divisiveness. Doesn't ever try to unit the country. He's not following the Constitution which is the biggest reason I am against him. I put the country first. Not a political figure. He's also committed crimes.....he's racist.....sexist....and a sexual predator.

But don't let that deter you from your praise.

I'm not a an of Trump and their are things I'll agree to disagree, but let's not forget our Countrymen put him in that position he's in now. I blame my own Countrymen then I blame Trump himself.

Every reason I gave you was trump's actions. Stop being his apologist and blaming others.

@narlymech: Rightwing beliefs and policies going back at least 30 years have been countlessly analyzed and critiques. There’s plenty of academic literature out there that exposes these ideas, especially the economic ones, as frauds.

Probably, but how many of us actually read all that. More likely we just tune in to CNN and see what's up with Trump. Or you have the people who are attempting to tune out to it.

I reckon that's an issue of the voter, and even more so the liberal establishment's inability to articulate complex policy nuance to the average voter. The GOP on the other hand, believe in relatively simplistic ideas and positions, and are better at communicating them to the average voter via sources like Fox News, their de facto media platform. Essentially a better PR strategy. You see it in phrases like "pro-life" and "right to work".

What "left" are we talking about here? Like, the actual "left" of centre folks who advocate for socialist policy changes, or the "left" that are generally referred to as "liberals" and are actually centrists and defend the wealthy ruling class just as much as the right?

Socialists hate Trump because he represents exactly what they are fighting to change.

He lost the popular vote, which would indicate how the American people wanted it to be decided. The electoral college, while the current system in place, is not how a leader should be chosen, since the people's votes are technically worthless and everyone wonders why voter turnout is so low.

Most of America didn't vote. So what you are saying is factually incorrect. EC isin place so a few states don't dictate what the whole country gets.

No the EC is in place to give less populated states a much bigger say in who gets elected than they should have. It's unfair. But I get when you back the less popular party you don't want to let the people have a say. Though if you invested any time in understanding the popular vote you would know that using it would not have decisions based on "a few states".

Couldn't just some of these small mid-west states go together? That would makes things somewhat fairer, although it doesn't really solve the problem.

"Most of America didn't vote"

55.7% is more than half, so no, that's wrong.

48.2% is a greater number than 46.1%, so no, that's also wrong.

I know Trump supporters aren't the smartest people in the world, but come on, this is basic math friend.

EDIT: And the EC gives places like Wyoming way too much say, where the population density is so low, there's only 6 people per square mile, while in a place like New York (state) it's 416.42. One person, one vote, no one vote should be able to influence the election more than anyone else.

It's why the Republican party on every level is so heavy into gerrymandering. So they can set every election in their favour and make the poor and minority votes count less.
