Chilling effect!

Condoms could be provided “for the purpose of helping prevent the spread of STDs,” according to the guidance — but not “for purposes of birth control.”

So condoms are still being distributed but to fight against STDS and not pregnancy?

"the law prohibits them from taking any action, and from using or providing institution funds or facilities, for any of the following:

Advertising or promoting services for abortion or for the prevention of conception. "

how fucking stupid are these people?

also LOL

" The language of this statute is not a model of clarity, stating that a person other than a licensed physician, or a licensed health care provider acting under a physician or under a physician’s order, “who wilfully [sic] publishes any notice or advertisement of any medicine or means for producing or facilitating a miscarriage or abortion, or for the prevention of conception, or who offers his services by any notice, advertisement, or otherwise to assist in the accomplishment of any such purpose, is guilty of a felony.” "

@firedrakes: well it's going to say it on the wrapper. Seems like a technicality and not a real issue.

They still are distributing condoms, just not saying it's to prevent pregnancy... Who cares

@mattbbpl: move goal posts how, as far as I can tell hardly anything has happened, a college in Idaho isn't advertising the condoms stop pregnancy. If your in college and don't already know that shame on you.

You do know that the future also matters and if you remove facts, the new college kids won't know that. You can't hide facts and expect them to be known after there hidden. Wow.

It seems pretty clear to me. As Horgen mentioned party defenders insisted that the party wouldn't proceed to attacking contraception. Now that they explicitly have the goalposts have shifted to, "well, sure, but you can still get it if you lie and don't say it's for contraception."

Just wackos. You'd be hard pressed to find religious people that haven't actually used contraception.

If they can offer condoms to prevent STDs, just offer women birth control meds to lighten their periods.

If they've grown up in conservative towns with a lack of proper sexual education, sure.

Yep, and here they are attacking contraception. Which ironically, prevents abortion. They aren't here to be pro-life, they're here to police your sex life and act like the morality gestapo.

So now words and narratives don't matter? Sounds like we're 'technically' correct and you're once again adjusting those goal posts to keep your team relevant to the 21st century.

If the message is 'don't use them for birth control, only STDs.' Then it implies that people can forgo them if they feel that they aren't carriers or infected with anything, hence why it's dangerous.

Mentioning that they would most likely do so was being hysterical and/or an alarmist.

A small minority of people using religion to push their own agenda. Religion itself is inanimate. It's people that are the problem.

The way that I read this, offering a condom or even suggesting to someone that they should use a condom is a violation of this law. At least it is if you are a licensed health care provider. Your phrasing of why someone should use the condom is irrelevant because the condom accomplishes the purpose of preventing conception. I think someone could challenge the university and their clinic could be guilty of a felony here.

If this was due to religion, (Christianity I assume), why would they be ok with handing out condoms to prevent STDs when premarital sex is forbid? I would think married couples would only use condoms for birth control, maybe a few have to use them if one has an STD, but that seems rare. Doesn't seem like a religious thing.
