https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/433507-trump-proposes-cutting-national-science-foundation-budget-by-billion-dollars

The White House's fiscal 2020 budget proposal recommends lowering NSF's budget to $7.1 billion, from its current level of $8.1 billion. The 12 percent decline would exceed the single-digit reduction to overall nondiscretionary funding in the president's budget request to Congress. The NSF provides about one-quarter of all federal research grants and covers fields such as engineering, mathematics, computer science and social sciences. It also funds the purchase of large-scale scientific equipment.

Trump couldn't even get a GOP controlled congress to cut funding to the NSF. This is going nowhere.

lol Trump's budget will be dead on arrival in the House. 5% cuts across the board but increased defense spending and nearly 9 Billion requested for his Ego Shrine...errr Wall. And even after all of these cuts are considered, the deficit is still growing since the Trump tax cuts have blown a decent hole in budget.

There's some fuzzy math involved to market the cuts as shallower.

Per The Hill:

The Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget said the cuts in the administration’s budget may be “unrealistic.”

It includes proposed cuts of more than 30 percent for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and over 20 percent for the State Department and Transportation Department. Nondefense cuts total 9 percent in one year, and would deepen to 26 percent over a decade, even as the population continues to grow.

Jesus, and the EPA is pegged at over 30% with the DHS getting a 15% increase lol. These priorities, I'm tellin' ya.

The kicker?

The Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget forecast the budget would add over $10 trillion to the debt.

The projection is still for trillion dollar deficits.

I'm loving the rosy economic forecast to put them on track for a deficit neutral budget by 2034. It's like they've never heard of an actuary before, or economic forecasting, or math. If I lied about the numbers I crunched at work like they do, I'd be fired in a second.

Or, you know, instead of slashing 12% of something that would actually keep the US ahead of the game he could just make common-sense tax laws...or reduce our defense budget by 0.5% (that's just a guess, but it seems believable)...or any number of things.

What is the point of science when you're already the biggest expert on every subject and nobody knows more about any subject than you? Military, environment, healthcare, security. The bigliest expert.

Makes sense.

Within the next decade it is predicted that with SCIENCE, people, especially cartels, will have access to tech that allows them to fly... specifically fly over walls. We can't have a wall if people will just fly over it, so better stop scientific development, because the wall comes first.

I might be wrong, but isn't a lot of the science which is funded by the public later used to develop new medicine and whole bunch of other stuff?

@HoolaHoopMan: So, you’re for illegals taking jobs away from the poor, illegals committing substantially more violent crimes than the average American citizen, and draining public services you’ve been paying for since birth? You’re for all of that?

Walls work fyi - like the four that surround you and your loved ones every single night.

Taking work away from the poor: This is actually true. However, what happened when mass deporation became a thing is that it seriously hurt the economy.
More Violent Crimes: Actually, Illegals commit far fewer. Because they know that violent crimes = deportation, which can mean death.
Draining Public Services: Actually illegals can not use things like education, and medicaid (unless in the case of emergencies). They can legally not apply for welfare, although, due to a myriad of factors they sometimes do get it. However, Illegals do pay taxes, and the data is a bit muddy whether they bring in or take more money. Seen plenty of contradictory statements here.

Obviously. In fact I provide hand written notes to every illegal, with a specific address of a US citizen. They're then instructed to murder these people, steal their identify, and ultimately, their jobs.

It's a nefarious plan I say!

Since this is turning into a general discussion thread on Trump's budget proposal:

Yet, here we are.
