I don't know what kinds aid they get but I am not sure if it's easy for them to solve the drugs flowing into the US alone

https://www.cnn.com/2018/02/02/politics/donald-trump-foreign-aid-drugs/index.html

"I want to stop the aid. If they can't stop drugs from coming in, 'cause they can stop them a lot easier than us. They say, 'oh we can't control it.' Oh great, we're supposed to control it," the President said. "So we give them billions and billions of dollars, and they don't do what they're supposed to be doing, and they know that. But we're going to take a very harsh action."

"We want strong borders. We want to give you laws. We want to stop the catch and release nonsense that goes on. You catch somebody and you release them. You know they're bad," he said. "They're pouring in from El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, all over. They're just pouring into our country."The President added: "These countries are not our friends, you know."

"We think they're our friends, and we send them massive aid, and I won't mention names right now," he said. "But I look at these countries, I look at the numbers we send them, we send them massive aid and they're pouring drugs into our country and they're laughing at us."

Good luck with that, those same countries also happen to be key trading partners.

Unless said illegal export is taxed, I think the government in the respective countries are interested in lowering the flow of drugs as much as possible.

We spend millions fighting drug lords and the importing of drugs but do very little to address the cause. Americans buy drugs and will continue to buy drugs unless we as a society start putting resources to help people who are on drugs and are the buyers of the imported drugs. Kill the market not suppliers because the suppliers only exist because of the market.

War on drugs is not much different that the war on terrorism.

It never ends and it stays indefinitely because we choose to have it that way.

The people who make the choices you disprove of do not want your help. Violence is the only way to kill the market in question, as ultimately they do not care if you think it is the wrong choice.

@kittennose: sorry but I value facts above emotion.

The war on drugs has been a horrible failure. However social care has done a lot to help.

Good job. Light a fire under their butts. Or maybe use the aid money to fund an international DEA type system for each country.

@kittennose: and how do you propose to get you fill of blood without a war?

Face the facts. What you want does not work, you only want it because you're a disturbed person.

Holy fluff are you obtuse and dramatic.

Pointing out that folks don't want that poster's help and that the only way to kill the market in question is through violence isn't an endorsement of violence.

@kittennose: yes it is. Unless what you're arguing is that everyone should sit back and do nothing, which I'm not sure is any better.

The fact is violence does not work, but helping the consumers so they stop being consumers does.

If you don't know what my position is then you really don't have much of a reason to claim it is an endorsement of violence. You are just a drama llama throwing a tantrum.

@toast_burner: That there is no other way to kill the market in question. Violence is the only method of enforcing authoritarianism. Once it is taken off the table, authoritarianism turns into nothing more then concern trolling that is usually ignored by the masses.

The pearl clutchers may indoctrinate their children, but usually even that is only temporary. Once the kids hit high school or move out on their own, most will realize how asinine it is to devote your life to disproving of other people's choices.

They could legalize them all and provide rehab programs for addicts and eliminate the black market entirely...

But this could work too...

You don't think rehab can make many of the current users quit?

I specifically argued that the only way to kill the market was with violence. So yeah if you are beating/shooting addicts for resisting your efforts to rehabilitate them you can make them quit. You will really have to step up your numbers though if you want long term effectiveness.

Why on earth would it work? You're not there yet on the authoritarianism. I still don't think it would work. Make it smaller, but not completely kill it.

You are the one asking questions like: "You don't think rehab can make many of the current users quit?" when I state that authoritarianism absent violence is ignored. You tell me?

Though I can happily concede that violent authoritarianism can never force full compliance. At best it only manages to make most of the population do what it wants. Kill the market is a borrowed phrase from an earlier post. Devastate would be more accurate.

Depends on the drug.
