http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2018/04/04/trump-signs-proclamation-sending-national-guard-to-mexico-border-immediately.html

President Trump signed a proclamation Wednesday night to send the National Guard to the southern border immediately, a senior White House official told Fox News, in response to what the administration described as an "unacceptable" flow of drugs, criminal activity and illegal immigrants.

Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen said at the White House press briefing that the signing would be done in conjunction with governors and that the administration hoped the deployment would begin "immediately."

"Despite a number of steps this administration has taken...we continue to see unacceptable levels of illegal drugs, dangerous gang activity transnational criminal organizations and illegal immigration flow across our border," she said.

"The president has directed that the Department of Defense and the Department of Homeland Security work together with our governors to deploy our National Guard to our southwest border to assist the border patrol," she said. "The president will be signing a proclamation to that effect today."

Details about what the National Guard would do and how many would be deployed and for how long were not immediately disclosed.

Under the George W. Bush administration, deploying the National Guard to the border cost $415 million dollars.

I think this is great. We send troops to protect us from abroad, why not at home?

Obama did the same thing as well, deploying something like 1500 troops to the border. It's become an unfortunate standard of our immigration policy. I'm actually surprised Trump didn't do this sooner.

There’s plenty jobs out there ! The fields of Cali need folks to pick up crops, Six Motels need janitors, maids n’ stuff like that.

Wall failed? Next. Mexico won't pay for the border? Next. Congress won't pass border bill? Next. More border patrols... next?

About time.

Next, have the National Guard with A-10 Thunderbolt II's patrolling the boarder overhead, that'll solve the problem of those "caravans" of illegals coming from Central America up through Mexico to get into the U.S.

That's why the U.S. Military should take out those caravans before they reach the U.S.

Pretty sure the US exercising military force in a sovereign nation could be seen as an act of war as well as a war crime

So just letting these invaders flood across our boarders is okay? No.

If they get across the boarder into the U.S., they are "safe" and cannot be kicked out? No.

This is bullShit.

Trump needs to close our boarders, by force if needed (and it IS needed).

Waste more taxpayer money but what does he care he doesn't pay taxes. I think we need a law that you have to pay taxes before you can spend the money.

One. That depends on the metric used. It's not correct to compare them in such a simplistic manner.

Two. Trump's tax returns show him paying no taxes.

Three. Deal with it.

Being anti-illegal immigration is one thing, but that's really all the Republicans are good for. Nothing else.

If migrants from poverty-stricken Honduras which consist of starving men, women, and children are "invaders" then the United States has a problem. A problem as in either we don't know what the word "invader" is or we can't take care of ourselves because of these migrants.

apparently the liberal power structure is so powerful its easier to get the public behind building a huge wall then it is to change laws that would disincentive immigration

see if anyone gets what I mean

I get what you're saying, but I'm confused on what you're actually proposing.

here are the top reasons people say immigrants come here

1. to sell drugs

2. to take advantage our welfare

3. to work

remove the loop holes in welfare, have strong punishment against employers who hire illegals, make the process of proving you are legal for employment more clear, either legalize drugs here or remove the desire to want to buy them thru various social programs

Thus people will not come here.

easier than a wall

Pretty sure the US exercising military force in a sovereign nation could be seen as an act of war as well as a war crime

So just letting these invaders flood across our boarders is okay? No.

If they get across the boarder into the U.S., they are "safe" and cannot be kicked out? No.

This is bullShit.

Trump needs to close our boarders, by force if needed (and it IS needed).

Didn't say any of that. They can still be stopped and deported without resorting to warplanes firing on civilians in another country

There are warplanes firing on civilians in another country?

what are you getting at?

here is what my sister used to say ages ago

'mexicans are coming over here to work and take advantage of our welfare system'

ok...remove those two problems,

I picture in my mind an image of a guy holding up an ice cream cone saying 'come here and get it' and another guy in a plane trying to stop the person who is coming over to get the ice cream

just stop offering the ice cream cone!

Ok, that makes sense.

Question though. We're going to look more attractive compared to a lot of countries for a long time. Should we shape our system around making people not want to come here, or should we just concentrate on filtering people that come through?

how I think we 'should' do it is separate conversation.

I am just looking at it purely from a tactical standpoint and agnostic on the why. Just looking at it strictly as a cause and effect it seems a lot easier to remove the motivation then it is to build a wall and send a bunch of troops.

both in practical terms as well as world optics.

the response I have heard in the past is 'liberals will not let it happen'

to which I respond 'which is harder? convincing liberals to change laws or convince them to have a wall built?'

lol it's not practical to change our whole society to solve a problem that as external.

I guess we can just agree to disagree, respectfully.

so there it is.

I think its much harder to get a society behind the idea of building a multi billion dollar wall and sending troops to it, then it is to convince them that we need tighting checks on social security cards (basically)

but at least we understand each other now

I get understand you're trying to be compassionate. The problem is medical as well. They bring a lot of disease up here if left unregulated.

I would love to help everybody in the world, but we can't.

This doesn't have to do with compassion. The OP referred them as "invaders" as if they were a military force set to invade our lands, which is why he deserves to be mocked for his stupidity.

The caravan is literally just a bunch of starving men, women, and children who want to get out of Honduras. That's not me being compassionate, that's reality of their situation. They're not invaders.

If they're coming into a country by force, without permission, that is kind of the definition of invader.

WHY? Why are they invading.

No, it's not. An invader is someone who uses force to enter and take control of a country.

They're not invaders. They're not looking to take control of the country. They're escaping Honduras due to poverty and looking for a better life elsewhere.

Well they aren't coming by force so you answered your own question........they are NOT invaders. They are desperate individuals.

kind of as a side note, ever notice how eager some people are to make something a war, the love the chance for it to be a war.

the irony of it though is going to make some upset so i will try to say it nicely. The irony is, having a war is what makes you less safe, despite them having the proclivity to lean toward safety the options they select very often are exactly opposite of safe.

It's not a war if you stop people from coming in. You're blaming somebody's desire to take something on the people that have it, just because they have it.

That's like saying the jews should have changed their lifestyle, because it was too tempting for the nazi's to take it.

really? I was not aware of the fine line between invaders that need a military to stop them from invading and it technically not being a war because you are successful in stopping them.

but ok fair enough whatever you want to call it I am less concerned with semantics, if you like we can call it a 'military situation' if that is agreeable
