@mattbbpl: I'm not sure why Pence seems so utterly dominated by Trump.

@HoolaHoopMan: I dunno, I think Pence probably realises kicking out Trump and making himself president would never go down well. It would split the Republican base and paint a huge target on his back.

Strategically, it's probably better for him to just wait a week (and hope the MAGA base stops sending him death threats).

@NathanDrakeSwag: You’re so far right that you’re basically schizophrenic. I honestly feel sorry for you and hope you don’t do something stupid with your radicalism and ruin your life like those DC insurrectionists did.

Well, they did fight freedom... They tried to force the outcome. It wasn't America First it was Party Over Country.

Let them impeach him. Trump can handle it. He will continue to find ways to be influential. He's the modern day alpha bad boy president, the first since Andrew Jackson.

So basically do nothing and hope the terrorists go away. I guess Republicans do negotiate with terrorists.

Pence has reach his limits with President Trump and is now moving forward with this Impeachment 2021. I don't like Pence, but even I can forgive him for standing up to Trump for this.

Pence has nothing to do with impeachment. Also he refused to invoke the 25th Amendment. They met and I guess Pence was okay with trump setting his insurrections to go to the Capitol after him.

It could split the base in the present, but could help it save face in the longer term. I'm hoping there exists at least a handful of 'principled' GOP congressman who can break from the fold or eye an independent switch. The GOP in it's current form is a toxic cult of personality. That isn't sustainable in a democracy.

@mattbbpl: Yes. If they cannot do the job they should resign.

Edit: I'd imagine the Democrats would be fearful but they are doing their jobs. So that excuse definitely doesn't hold up.

@mattbbpl: Supposedly if enough abstain from voting then they need fewer approval votes? But I agree with Jason Crow who said "I'm not asking you to storm the beaches of Normandy but show a fraction of the courage we ask of our troops every day. Leadership is hard. It's time to impeach,"

And Republicans are already facing threats for not doing enough, there's threats either way. If they can't stand up to that how can they stand up for the country? Do they want a country that gives in to terrorist threats?

Impeachment is the correct thing to do. I wouldn't have bothered with the 25th amendment call. The problem isn't that Trump can't execute the duties of President. He simply chooses not to do them and disgrace the office. It is never, ever too late to punish insurrection. If that's not an impeachable offense, then I can't imagine anything being impeachable. Might as well just declare the presidency a mini dictatorship.

If it was a Democrat, the Republicans would be rightly losing their minds. It doesn't matter how little time the President has left in office. They absolutely must be held accountable. Any Republican voting against the impeachment resolution is giving the nod to this type of behavior.

@LJS9502_basic: Yeah GOP is already fractured. I really don’t know what their plans are go forward but 45% of republicans voters were okay with the acts of sedition. 55% were not. That’s like 20% of the country that is hardcore trumpers, and around 70% want him removed from office.

This is why the impeachment is happening. Pelosi wants to put Republican congressmen on record one way or the other and let the two sides of the GOP destroy each other.

My local media is reporting that the votes have passed the threshold for impeachment. So whatever the remaining votes are, Trump has been impeached again.

Now it's just a question of whether the Senate will do the right thing (and when).

I'll believe McConnell when he casts a vote for impeachment. Until then I'll assume he's trying to give himself some good PR. I hope I'm wrong though.

So Trump just released a video "unequivocally" condemning everything that happened at the Capitol last week.

That's a good start. If he had sent this video during the siege, rather than his other video ("This is a historic moment. My election was stolen. We love you!"), he may have avoided impeachment.

Then again, if he hadn't stirred up a mob and pointed them at the Capitol building in the first place...

Or if he hadn't exclusively relied on dividing the nation as part of his campaign strategy for the past five years...

Or...

No, Trump has easily been by far done the most to divide this country. Probably the single most damaging politiican for american unity since Newt Gingrich.

He has CONSTANTLY villified the left, even going as far as to imply violence against them. He has also constantly demonized democrat leaning states. Just how many times did Trump use the phrase "Radical Left" in the past year?

I wouldnt be surprised one of the main reasons the democrats got so many votes this election was because many left-leaning people, saw Trump as an existential threat.

Meanwhile, Biden is leaning HEAVILY towards Bipartisanship.

Trump has been the instigator and the left have been responders.

Blaming the left response to the instigator is like blaming the doctors for why your mom got diabetes when all the doctor is trying to do is help.

The right has been fixated on the left being a bunch of "snowflakes" since the very beginning and any and all left emotional fuels the hatred.

When the new precedent of hatred is based on the emotional response towards corruption in the highest chair; is that unjustified hate? I think yes.

This was interesting (unusually for The Mirror).

Donald Trump sent hidden message to supporters in speech, body language expert claims

EXCLUSIVE: Body language expert Bruce Durham believes that Donald Trump was playing mind games in his latest video message - trying to keep his supporters on side while still being able to say he said what he was needed to say - claiming it shows "the manipulator in all his glory"

After making history by becoming the first US president to be impeached twice, Donald Trump addressed the nation in a video message.

He was forced to share the five minute video from the White House Twitter account, after his own was deleted by the social media platform.

The President condemned last week's Capitol violence, promising that those who engaged in the "troubling" attack will be "brought to justice".

However he failed to mention the successful efforts to oust him, which resulted in 232 voting in favour of impeachment for inciting insurrection during the riot which saw five people die.

Body language expert Bruce Durham believes Trump is playing "manipulator" in the message, trying to keep his supporters on side while still sending the message he knows everyone says he has to send.

He also compares Trump to a "school child being sent to bed" who is "dragging your heels as you ascend the stairs, kicking every stair as you slowly go and slamming the door when you get up there."

Bruce shares his expert views on Trump's video message with The Mirror.

Donald Trump released a speech yesterday and its purported purpose was to calm down tensions before the transition to President Elect Joe Biden occurs.

The real purpose one could offer was to save Donald’s bacon, to try and give some type of pressure relief valve to the impeachment process he now faces. In the recording he referenced the behaviour of his supporters as ‘the calamity at the Capitol’ but, in this presentation, it could be declared that he had a calamity in front of the cameras, not least from whether to believe him or not.

When it comes to reading body language, micro expressions and verbal clues like cadence, inflection and more, it is from these fields that we can gauge the more authentic feelings of the outgoing President rather than just the words he said.

Due to the fame of Donald Trump, and all of his speeches before, we can categorically say that there was a high level of inauthenticity and even discomfort shown by the president.

We can offer this because we have thousands of examples of his ‘base line’ behaviour. What he does most of the time when giving a speech.

Before we start, we need to accept that this is being read from a script, not from the heart. It has been developed with the single intention of supporting the president.

This is not an issue in itself, but because of this, it beautifully highlights how aggrieved Trump feels having to say something he so obviously doesn’t believe in!

From a body language perspective, we can look at the grasp of the hands. Trump repeatedly creates a ‘cradle’ of the fingers, a self sooth when the fingers are interlinked. We see no ‘steepling’ of the fingers – where just the tips of the fingers and thumbs touch each other creating a triangle shape.

Anyone in his position, or any politician, will have received communication or media training. They are trained to ‘show’ steeping. They understand that steepling is a ‘power position’ as it shows calmness and authority.

The cradle position however is shown at times when you are uncomfortable with what is being said or what you or someone else is doing. He adopts the cradle position for most of the speech so you can safely ascertain that he is uncomfortable with the majority of the speech.

This is backed up by the vast number of times you can clearly see his thumbs ‘self-soothing’ – a rub of thumbs that give the person comfort in an uncomfortable time.

In this speech we do not hear any of the spin that Trump is famous for. In every single speech that he has gave, something is the best in the world, something is fabulous, ground-breaking, it’s the best the universe has ever saw.

It’s a psychological approach that can change the thinking of even the harshest critic. And he says this with vigour. We know his base line behaviour includes this method, yet here, there is nothing. No spin, no energy, no nothing. And there is nothing because he doesn’t want to say it, it’s not his idea, nor even his choice.

Another factor to note is his cadence and inflection. Donald is a very capable orator. Quick witted, sharp and has the ability to charm, but here in this speech, you will notice a drawl, a fatigued energy, but he is over emphasising it.

This is Trump being defiant. Yes he is being made to say it, yes he knows it will help him right now, but that huge dose of narcissism within Trump does not like having to follow anyone else’s rules but Donald’s.

By slowing down his speech, by making it so obvious, this is Trump playing mind games. He is showing, if only to himself, that he is still in control of the situation. Apathy is also at play here, a bit like a school child being sent to bed, but dragging your heels as you ascend the stairs, kicking every stair as you slowly go and slamming the door when you get up there.

But, there is also a more powerful message here. He is overemphasizing the message as he wants to show that he is towing the line (to a small extent at least purely from a self-preservation standpoint) but he also wants to make it clear to his supporters that he is being placed under duress to relay this message.

Remember, he said that he would be there with his supporters marching on The Capitol. It was Trump who sparked the idea. His response to the violence was anything but prompt and lacked any substance whatsoever.

So with Trump playing mind games, by trying to keep his supporters on side but delivering the speech so he can say he said it, we see Trump the manipulator in all his glory doing what he does best, and that is only caring about Donald.

In this situation I think you had to proceed with Impeachment. "Youre special. We love you." It's like... bro you could have stepped in at any time to stop this. Then you said that... Yeah. Whether he gets convicted or not... hard to say.
