And how did he get played?

Do you have an insight no one else has into Trumps and the us governments mind?

Also, i don´t think anyone had high hopes as to North Korea´s actual intentions.

Trump and the administration were all in on this North Korea rapport, even touting Trump winning the Nobel Peace prize lol. Now it looks like the summit may not even happen, and Kim has 0 intention of denuclearization, which is Trump's goal there. He got played like a fiddle by Kim, it's so blatantly evident.

Yeah, he flipped the tables on the administration and put himself in the driver's seat. He's now the one demanding concessions from the US with his leverage being political expectations.

"yet"

He already caved to China and gave them an economic win for nothing in return. At this point I think he's just throwing stuff at the wall hoping it'll save his disastrous presidency.

Well, before you jump on your anti-trumpet train, you may consider that the meeting date has not yet passed and that all this could be nothing than a negotiation tactic from North Korea.

And again how did he get played? has Trump done anything to relieve the sanctions? have they done anything to stop the pressure? the only one who has done anything is South Korea and it´s nothing but a symbolic action.

But i know nothing can get you over the trump hate.

I agree, it could be a negotiation tactic... a very good one. Now that Trump has put all his eggs in one basket and laid out his ultimate goal from the start, where is his leverage? Like others have said, Kim is now leading the negotiations and the one with leverage over the other parties.

A very good one? I am not sure why you seem to think that Trump is going to lose anything by "thelittlerocketman" not coming to the table

If Kim does not come to the table all that happens is that Trump will continue the sanctions/pressure and most likely China won´t have an excuse not to continue with their sanctions/pressure as well. Not to mention South Korea will get even more behind Trump.

So no Kim is not leading anything, which is clearly shown by him deploying this tactic all this is. Is an attempt to see how Trump will react and how far he can go. And you really think Trump would pull an Obama and bend the knee?

@Jacanuk: Isn’t it obvious? Trump is risking his credibility and more or less staking the midterms, and the presidency, on this North Korea negotiation. Like North Korean TV said, if it fails he will end up as a failed president. Kim is deploying these tactics because he knows Trump is an amateur who lets himself get baited by anyone.

It’s obvious to anyone that Kim holds all the cards here. The North Koreans have nothing to lose if the talks fail.

Wait, so because you dislike Trump so much you actually take what a North Korean state-run tv says seriously?

Trump is not risking anything by this and if the meeting doesn´t happen because of little rocket man, it will fall back on the North Koreans, not Trump.

And Kim is not holding anything, The only one who would gain anything is Kim by actually attending the meeting. Trump and the rest of the world are not afraid of actually going to war or making more sanctions, in fact, if Kim does not show up, Trump and the west can use it to pressure China to increase their sanctions.

Wait, so you love Trump so much you're willing to take everything they say or do seriously as a work of genius?

Trump is risking his reputation and credibility. It is so blatantly obvious they have 0 leverage in the situation now. They can't even get their story and approach straight with Bolton saying one thing, Pompeo another, and Trump a third. The administration has been parading itself over the past few weeks as the summit and approach to North Korea as a "win", even touting that Trump may win the Nobel Prize. The more Trump has been hyping up the meeting, the more he stands to lose in credibility if it doesn't happen.

How do you think it's going to look for Trump if Kim backs out of the meeting? Pretty poorly. Trump is such a disaster this summit meeting is really all he has lol. And Kim knows this and has been exploiting it. Kim, unlike Trump, has already gotten popular coverage and news from the Panmunjom summit with Moon, and has been cultivating closer ties with China so he can go into the summit with Xi at his side. If the summit doesn't happen he will still have China's improved ties. What does Trump have so far? Even a child could see what's going on here.

Do you think Kim and the North Korean regime really care about sanctions? There's been no proof that sanctions has altered their behavior. It's still the same North Korea as always. The regime has let its people starve on multiple occasions and spent all their funds on weapons and the military. Furthermore, Kim is accountable to no one. He stays in power regardless. Trump, on the other hand, has the US electorate and Congress keep to keep him accountable.

Yeah, that's exactly my point. The more they hype it up, the bigger the embarrassment if the summit isn't a success or even worse, doesn't happen.

Kim knows Trump will be a) banking on the summit happening and b) hoping the summit ends up being a success. With Trump desperate for some kind of win he can tout going into the midterms, Kim can exploit this easily and has been doing so. Trump may even be so desperate he accepts a lesser deal with Kim just so he can say he got something done.

sounds likely to me.

he is after all unbelievably easy to 'play'. Avenatti does it over and over and over again and Trump keeps falling into traps.

Holy cow your logic is almost good as Trumps.

First, clearly, North Korea and Kim care about the sanctions otherwise they would not even have begun down this road., A road btw no other president before has even come close to. So yes there is proof that NK cares and that the increased sanctions worked, especially from China.

So I have no clue how you can even begin to come to the conclusion that Trump is to "blame" if the meeting fails. Not to mention no one in the world had any expectations as to the outcome of the meeting, which in the end could be nothing more than Kim and Donald playing pretend "measure the d" contest.

Also just to be clear for Trump to end up the "loser" there would have to be an assumption that if it had been Clinton or any other president, Kim would have attended the meeting. Which clearly is not the case.

@Jacanuk: You have no proof that sanctions are the determining factor in their recent attempts at diplomacy. It’s just as likely that Kim sees an opportunity in dealing with a fool like Trump that he can exploit, and a South Korean president who is dovish and wants closer ties with North Korea. That he can play these two individuals against each other and perhaps cause SK and the US to drift apart. It has already worked with the US and Japan.

It doesn’t matter who is to “blame”. If the meeting fails to occur for whatever reason it will be Trump who loses out.

So now Kim is exploiting Trump.

What exactly has North Korea gained by inviting Trump to a meeting?

Which concessions has Trump made?

Problem with going to war

And you think the US would care because?

Are you really so happy to make the US unimportant in the world?

lol, of course the US cares. If they didn't care they'd have bombed North Korea off the map already.

But they haven't, because South Korea has loads of artillery pointed at it from the North and Japan is in North Korea's striking range too.

Nice way of missing what I said.

But let me explain it to you again. If it comes to a war, do you really think the US would care if a "few countries"like it or not? do I need to remind you about Iraq after 9/11

Also, I am still missing an answer to this

"So now Kim is exploiting Trump.

What exactly has North Korea gained by inviting Trump to a meeting?

Which concessions has Trump made?"

So far all I can see is that your silence means you know you messed up.

Not really and you're nonsense about driving a wedge between the US and South Korea/Japan is just that, pure nonsense.

In fact, the current president is a lot more us friendly than his predecessor.

@Jacanuk: Why is it nonsense? That’s exactly what’s happening lol.Why do you think Japan had a summit meeting with China and South Korea about North Korea without the US? Because Abe feels left out in the dark during the North Korea-US negotiations.

Come on man, this is really easy stuff to see. I’m not pulling this out of thin air.

I don't get the issue with NK (beside kim being a mad man) having nukes, USA have them so does Russia and a few other countries, So why can't NK? But I don't think that the sanctions that China put in where really that heavy put in anyway. Chinas 2 faces

You don´t see a problem with an insane despot who would use them, having nukes?

Well it was obvious from the beginning that NK wouldn't give up it's nukes. I myself called it, that they would have to be insane to do such a thing. It would be suicide for the north Koreans to give up their only bargaining chip. Look how much the Iranians got played by the Americans. If Iran had the bomb, I'm sure Uncle Sam would have given more favorable treatments and negotiations. Instead, Iran got a deal for maybe 3 years before getting shut down. The only thing scumbags Republicans understand is nuclear fall out, bunch of cowards.

The only insane despot who has ever used nukes is Harry Truman, and he's very, very dead.

Trump is the most do-nothing of do-nothings.

I don't think he is the worst president, he just accomplishes nothing and we have to hear the opposite. Honestly if the rest of his presidency continues on this way but he says nothing, like the White House is on radio silence, I'd be totally happy.

"Grandpa, what happened during the years of 2016 to 2024" my grandkid will ask me, decades from now

"Well, little lady: nothing." would be my reply

"Nothing?"

"Nothing"

"World peace?"

"nope"

"A huge war?"

"Some small ones, but no, no big one"

"Societal advancement?"

"No. Now stop asking so many questions and play Half-Life 3 with me"
