"The Opposition" on Comedy Central is a satire on alt-right/conservative media, notably inspired by Alex Jones and other pundits.

Most recently, Jordan Klepper (formerly of the Daily Show under both Jon Stewart and Trevor Noah) did a piece on Conservative-leaning humor, which I thought was worth sharing after @zaryia's past points on why conservative comedians tend not to do well.

Piece was funny, but the segment with Josh and Aaron was already done by Bill Maher at the end. But that's just my opinion. What say you?

I don't really find either of two be all that funny.

It's nothing but smug people smelling their own farts in the room.

This is quality comedy.

That video was terrible, and you can tell whoever wrote the script for that kid was a butthurt conservative who can't actually debunk anything Oliver said.

I laugh at jokes if they're funny, don't care what the content is. I'm fat and I generally laugh at funny fat jokes, often I'm the only one I am part of a group, so it's awkward lol. I laugh at white people jokes; Dave Chappelle does his "white person voice" and I crack up every time despite being white. I'll laugh at a good joke about hispanics, blacks, and asians, too. It's all funny to me if it is actually funny

But conservative "jokes" tend to just be mean, and not funny. So it's like "Well, not only are you an asshole, but you also fail at comedy".

@zaryia: Kid needs to cut his hair. That's a conservatives kid? GTFO

A personal attack at me making a factual statement, classy.

He didn't debunk any of Oliver's statements. He just kind of made fun of him on completely subjective remarks.

South Park is still great.

They should have toned it down a bit with the identity politics though.

How is it factual? When I have I personally attacked you? Got any proof that the youtuber I posted is even conservative? Or that somebody else writes the scripts?

You've completely missed the entire point of the video. Maybe it's because you aren't as smart as you think you are. It's time that someone has humbled your intellect.

@Gaming-Planet: He rags in Oliver for several minutes but gives no examples or specifics. His main complaint seems to be that they are just "smug". Aka he has nothing. It's a jelousy piece. Oliver and Colbert hit it big, now any facts they state or opinions they give are "smug". How cryptic.

If this was an Oliver piece, it would be full of citation of quotes and video clips to prove what he is saying. It would also be specific, and not just use a generic broad term. Oh and it would actually be funny.

Nah. They're pretty funny. Unlike that youtube video and conservative comedy shows. They all flop for a reason.

Also do you have proof the general population watches them for political info rather than comedy?

The group of tuners, which is about 12%, that use late night comedy as an outlet of news.

eh at least I take what John Oliver says with a table spoon of salt. I think most do. Also, he made it to season 5, so he must be doing something right.

Hmm, that is a bit understatement, you ever heard about Dunham? Allen?

But as we saw with Allen and his cancellation, I think the problem is more, that the networks are all left-leaning and do not want conservative comedians

They said conservative leaning humor. Not just comedians who happen to be a conservative and tell a "conservative" joke once every year.

Either way, that's still just 2, not nearly as many compared to left or left leaning.

Also, Last Man Standing got 5 seasons despite not being that great or popular. And he's going to be in Toy Story 4. Tim Allen has hardly been shunned from Hollywood.

There was an attempt a while back by FOX News for a Jon Stewart-style right-leaning comedy show but it got cancelled after one season lol. Meanspirited conservative “comedy” that punches down against minorities and the poor wasn’t allowed, so they needed other material. A lot of it just devolved into trite stuff like how global warming is a fake liberal scam. There was a recurring segment about President Rush Limbaugh giving addresses. Yeah.

I believe it was called the 1/2 Hour News Hour and it is worth checking out some clips if you’re curious and can find it. Should be on YouTube.

I almost forgot Crowder was at one time an actor....

Anyways, conservatives can be funny if you take the politics away. Reason why politics from a liberal perspective can be funny is since it challenges the norms of the current state of affairs. That's my two cents.

I guess you never saw Dunham´s show? or watched Last Man Standing.

It can´t get more conservative than that.

But as we saw with Allen and his cancellation, I think the problem is more than the networks are all left-leaning and do not want conservative comedians

Tim Allen has hardly been shunned from Hollywood.

oh no, not this whole mess of a conversation again

"The Opposition" on Comedy Central is a satire on alt-right/conservative media, notably inspired by Alex Jones and other pundits.

Most recently, Jordan Klepper (formerly of the Daily Show under both Jon Stewart and Trevor Noah) did a piece on Conservative-leaning humor, which I thought was worth sharing after @zaryia's past points on why conservative comedians tend not to do well.

Piece was funny, but the segment with Josh and Aaron was already done by Bill Maher at the end. But that's just my opinion. What say you?

Conservatives comedians do not do well?

Hmm, that is a bit understatement, you ever heard about Dunham? Allen?

Last Man Standing had above cancellation ratings and was actually one of ABC´s top-rated comedy shows.

And no Tim Allen is not shunned but clearly his conservative-leaning show was not cancelled because it did not bring in viewers.

Well, conservatives are better at memes for sure. Leftist comedy needs the rationalization, mental gymnastics, and a person talking in a convincing tone to justify the politics. So when you try to put it into a bite-sized, instant gratification type of humor, you get things like "freeze peach" and it's so telling how crap the politics are when you strip the ancillary BS.

@vl4d_l3nin: it's quite telling that you see memes as the cornerstone of comedy.

Seriously? How were it's ratings compared to According to Jim? Cause that's another show that went on way longer than it had any right to. I guess there is just this massive demographic of people I'm completely out of touch with that like really bland jokes. My parents didn't even watch these shows, and they are huge Everybody Loves Raymond fans.

ABC´s current Friday 8 pm is Once upon a time and is doing around 2mill viewers and 0.4 in 18-49

ABC Last Man Standing, was the same slot and did 1.2-1.5 and had around 5.5-6.2 mill viewers.

Not even Agents of Shield (which btw has gone on way too long and has taken a turn so bad no one can recover that) can pick up even close to the ratings from Last Man Standing.

So not sure why you mean it has gone on too long? it was doing better than any other ABC show not to mention it has major success in syndication.

Nah, the only reason why the female exec, cancelled Last man Standing was because of its conservative nature.

@Jacanuk: What I meant by LMS and AtJ going too long is they were not good, and yet each got at least six seasons. Very surprised to learn Last Man Standing had such high ratings as well.

Anyhow, that's weird they let it go on for six seasons before deciding they don't like conservatives to have shows, and then brought back Rosanne on the same network a year later.

Ahh, ya well LMS and ATJ was not for everyone and is geared towards a more mature audience and the end of the 18-49 demographic

But yes it was indeed weird and if you look at Allen´s tweet even he was surprised by the cancellation. but considering that Trump won and the exec´s may have gotten prematurely scared about having an openly conservative star on a show.

Yup bringing Rosanne back is indeed strange but that show is not as conservative as LMS , which if you ever saw it had Allen Vlog quite conservative ideas in the show.
