I'm a bit surprised to be honest. I thought he would have received a lengthier sentence given the higher profile of the case and years long crimes he committed. However, he still faces additional charges that he'll be sentenced to later down the line. The big question is whether they will be added on directly to this.

Thoughts on the sentencing? Too lenient, too much?

I can all but guarantee if you or I had that kind of record of financial bullshit, we'd be away for 3-4 times as long.

At the very least though he was also forced to pay 25 million, which means Mueller is even further in the green at this point.

I absolutely agree. Other than the articles, I haven't read through the judges reasoning and I'm curious to see why it was more lenient.

AOC called the sentencing for "bought" I think...

I wonder what the sentence would have been in a different country, where they actually treat white-collar crime for the serious crime it is.

I fully expect him to be out in a year or less.

"Manafort was a model prisoner blah blah blah serving more time does him no good something something something he has learned his lesson"

No doubt there is a golden parachute for him in this somewhere as well. At the very least, he will be able to write a book or two that will net him millions.

Do you have an opinion on the sentencing? Too little, too much, just right?

I honestly think our criminal justice system hands out sentences that are too long.

So i'm ok with 47 months. I bet almost all of you people would crack after 3 months in jail, so 47 months is pretty steep for a non violent crime.

Sure, but not really interesting in sharing it.

But we will see once he has the sentence in the next case.

Nah. What's "funny" is people (especially poor and minority) going to jail for exponentially longer for doing/stealing exponentially less.

And by funny I mean beyond fucked up to the point it's so absurd all you can do is laugh.

Honestly, most countries have far less sentences than the US.

Just means you got to aim higher. Don't leave without 50 million at least.

Yeah. It's a good thing to bring to attention. Different rules for different classes of citizens. I don't like the idea of people being punished, period. But if we do, then let's at least be fair about it...

What about that 20 years?

I like how the judge made sure to point out that the sentencing had nothing to do with the campaign or Russia.

It's not fair to prosecute the affluent as though they were mere normal people. Affluenza is a serious affliction with no known cure.

Here's a good article detailing some of the reasons for the disparity.

That plus such a low sentencing seems like it was politically biased, possibly.

Hopefully he gets more years pilled on from other sentencing.

It states basically nothing new if you followed the news for the last two decades. Honestly it's sickening.
