You made an absurd false equivalence between Cohen making illegal felony contributions at the direction of Trump, and reporting violations by the Obama campaign; violations similar to those that McCain's and Dole's campaigns were also fined for committing. It is difficult to meet all the reporting standards in a modern campaign with a ~million donors contributing a ~billion dollars. It is not difficult to not pay a couple pornstars to keep quiet before an election.

Whoever you gleaned the information from, that these two things are in any way similar, lied to you.

If you merely saw that Obama's campaign was fined, and made the connection yourself that this is also a campaign finance violation, so the two must be the same, then you lied to yourself.

The two are not the same. Cohen testified he committed two felonies at the direction of Trump. Two felonies that each carry 5 year maximum sentences.

The crimes Cohen testified Trump is guilty of are far more serious, and carry far stiffer penalties, than the reporting violations nearly every modern presidential campaign has been fined for committing, including Obama's.
