Breaking news:House lawmakers left the Capitol Friday night without passing a budget agreement, ensuring funding for several key government agencies will lapse at midnight.

Link

We will enter into a government shutdown at midnight. We don't know how long it will last, but we've been through this before so we know what to expect - There will be some inconvenience, employees will be furloughed/asked to work without pay, and it will cost us a bunch of money, but critical operations will still function.

Who knows, we might even learn that not all that government is necessary.

Trump shutdown 2018. He coined it and he's going to own it. Quite a follow up to today's stock plunge again, a great note to end the year on.

@HoolaHoopMan: "He coined it and he's going to own it."

I'd say there's about a 100% chance that he will try to shift the blame to the Democrats.

So you have a government shutdown over the weekend and during the holidays.

Sounds like standard government operating procedure where I live.

Trump is the best president of the US I've seen in my lifetime. Democrats want to make America a shithole. That's why they don't want a wall. Everything Trump says is true and they know it. Democrats want to flood this country with foreigners. They don't care what real, legal American citizens think about it. Trump says what most Americans think.

So, Trumps going to shut down the government to express racism and blacks can't even take a knee at a ballgame? What kind of America is this? I'll never support the Republicans after this ever again.

@Mercenary848: But in this case Trump is handing the Democrats a winning issue. It's very much a winning issue for the Democrats to oppose Trump's wall, the midterms proved that quite succinctly.

True that, but I always harken back to the travel; good people always have to suffer because of his tantrums.

@Master_Live: Trump gets his information from places that do little more than confirm his own beliefs, that is to say Fox News. With an ever shrinking cabinet and a penchant for loyalty to Trump above all other qualities for who he picks to replace people he's going to be saying more and more things like this that are not only wrong, but obviously wrong to an increasing number of people.

@Serraph105: That's a bit of a microcosm for the electorate as a while, isn't it? He has access to some of the best inside information resource in the world, yet he turns to (and implements policy on) talking heads that confirm his biases.

Sort of off-topic but in-line with the GOPs AMAZING ability to manage money...

Just over from the Faux News comments section. Some Republipoor was trying to tell me that I'm a liberal mooch, stealing his tax dollars. Turns out he works at a cabinet shop for 15 dollars an hour while his wife stays home and takes care of his 4 kids...

But I'm stealing his tax dollars 'cause I'm a filthy liberal.

@mattbbpl: I go there for the 24/7 comedy show. Periodically I'll see some Trumpette talk about how he bleeds for his money, only to have it taken away by the 'no job' liberals. That's when my blood pressure rises.

That sounds like poor choices on your part. Better take care of yourself. Maybe learn how to better deal with stress and avoid stressful situations. :P

trump owned the shut down. From his own mouth. Or did Fox not run that program so their base is in the dark yet again.

trump refused to sign the funding measure. How that is the fault of anyone else is beyond me. Such mental gymnastics to avoid buyers remorse.

@JimB: He would have, but he refused to sign the one the House passed (and that he previously said he'd sign). You're ignoring that fact so you don't have to face reality.

It's odd to see a once bipartisan issue (border security) get so politically divisive. Then again, I live in a state where Californian politicians care more about protecting criminals rather than victims and law enforcement. Seems like upside-down world to me.

Most people don't want a Trump Tower Wall, that Mexico was supposudlly paying for, but the taxpayers are now being asked to. Most of illegal immigration is people overstaying visas anyway. Let's be sensible here.

didn't the senate pass a bipartisan continuing resolution that included over a billion for border security?

idk, what you mean about the California thing. Seems like they're carrying out policies supported by the people that voted for them

People want border security, which was in the original bill Trump didn't sign. What we don't want is an obscene wall that epitomizes the worst in all of us. Take your strawman arguments elsewhere.
