Anyone else think it's odd he paid $750 two years in a row? Or did they take two sums together and divided by two? Also, why are they only reporting 2016 and 17 if they have 18 years(or whatever it is) of tax records?

He didn't GIVE them anything. Stop saying that. He prepaid taxes which he has to do anyway.
I thought you said he only paid $750 though. Also, why aren't you curious about state income taxes? Or property and payroll taxes due in pretty much every state where he owns a property, not to mention real estate owned in other countries. I bet he pays a lot more than what the NYT is leading people to believe.
I said? The article did. Why are you trying to change the subject? But if it makes you feel better I believe NY is after him as well.

NY is "after him" for nothing illegal. Just the same political witch hunt that the Russia hoax was. So, why aren't you curious about how much he's paid in state income taxes, property taxes, payroll taxes, and foreign taxes?

Russia wasn't a hoax and with all the facts showing such if you're going to continue to insist facts don't matter then there is no point in discussing anything with you. Good day sir!
@AOC The nerve of people who ask “how are you going to pay for it?” whenever we propose building advanced public education, healthcare, & climate infrastructure yet defend a system where Trump pays $750 in taxes and Amazon pays none is beyond me.
Sums it up well

I find it odd that Trump could put all these questions to rest by releasing his tax returns, yet doesn't. Odd isn't it?
LMAO - a lot of people sure did disappear from this thread awfully quick.
Just wanna ask where you guys usually watch Live Streaming?
Get a job liberal. No one wants to watch you play games for a living.

@tenaka2: Umm that has nothing to do with his worth. You don't list all your assets on your taxes and what they're worth. Have you done taxes before?

So.. on the one had you claim we cannot tell exactly how broke trump is by his tax returns...
@tenaka2: He's worth 2.5 billion... I wish I was as broke as he is.
While on the other hand you claim to know exactly how much money trump has?
Have you been here long?
@tenaka2: Have I been where long? Planet Earth? Yup... long enough to know how to use Google to see someone's net worth. FYI, someone's worth is not how much money they have. I can't believe you don't know that.
I don't see the system as the issue here. The system is not set up for successful businesses to only pay $750 in income taxes. Either Trump's businesses are not successful or he is committing tax fraud. I think it's most likely that he just doesn't make any money. And failing businesses like the ones Donald runs shouldn't be taxed.

It may not show how much he is worth but it does show his outstanding debts, which apparently amount in the order of near half a billion if this report is to be believed. But if he sold off all his assets, I don't doubt he could probably pay that off and still be living pretty comfortably. Probably not anywhere near what he claims he's worth, and I doubt a billionaire, but still very well off.
Didn't the papers also state he has roughly 400 million $ in debt as well?
Something he could make with the sale of one or two properties out of dozens.
If someone is interested in buying them. He tried selling Trump building(not Trump Tower) on Wall Street NYC in 2003 without success if I remember correctly.
However you missed the point. Taxes shows he is deep in red it seems. If he has no interest in selling, those who he is indebted to could affect his policies and judgement.
And if all this is fake news as Trump claimed, he can easily prove NYT wrong.
Really? You understand US tax code that well? You know the deductions businesses and business owners are entitled under existing tax laws? Probably not, and NYT is banking on that to push assumptions. Trump doesn't need to prove it's wrong if NYT can't even prove it's correct, and even if it is, it shows absolutely nothing illegal, nothing amoral, and none of the ties to Russia the media has been promising his tax returns were hiding.
I talk about his debt and you want to bring up his taxes. Talk about whataboutism.
Neither did I say anything he did was illegal either. Where did you get that from?

Trump gives special treatment to companies his family has a stake in. Lock him up! Biden should blow this story up, bring this up during the debate!

Agree he has to do it even though his cult doesn't care there's still undecided voters somehow lol.
@warmblur: Isn’t that illegal? And his supporters accuse Biden of doing things off of flimsy evidence that Trump had been caught actually doing.

We always got to keep in mind that his cult denies reality for their biases.
isn't the point to pay as little taxes as possible?? Taxes are a scam that don't work. I have a much better suggestion instead of taxes.
1) Overhaul the economy, get rid of taxes or make them as small as possible. Enough to pay for roads, police and any other public infrastructure. That should lower the tax rate to around 5% if not less. If you do this, those loop holes don't even matter
2) get rid of all patents, trademarks, intellectual property rights, binding contracts etc. Make the economy a real free market without government interference and hardcore competition. That will lower the prices across the board, by making competition much tighter. Also, doing this, I guarantee that cost of living will plumet, and standard of living for middle and lower class will go up. The rich will take a massive beating.
I wonder if any of those rich and powerful people will take up my suggestion. Much lower taxes, and at the same time no free market restrictions. Those rich will never agree to it and would rather instead pay 70% tax rates, that much I guarantee you. The rich are a bunch of commie leech useless hypocrites, they just hide it much better.
Nah, now their biggest whine is Trump being "in debt" 400 some million in the same way someone with a 20-year mortgage is in debt for $100k. It's funny, if the returns are true, then clearly NYT selectively picked and chose federal income taxes, ignoring state income taxes which you could deduct from federal taxes, as well as property and payroll taxes. Why? Because ignoring all the other taxes he has payed and only focusing on federal income specifically, they could paint an incomplete picture that makes it look worse than it really is. And in what they discovered was pretty lackluster. This is a dead story.

So true.
Trump basically has a worse bombshell than the fake Hunter story, but on a on a weekly basis.
Ooh, Trump is still being extremely evasive about his taxes during the third debate.
He's deflecting, he's pretending his accountant will release them soon, and he's refusing to give a deadline when they will be released.
@Planeforger: don't you mean the second debate?
Ha! True, yes. "What was supposed to be the third debate".
Well this is how taxes work, isn't it? If you spend more than you make on deductible stuff, and you can prove it, then you don't pay taxes or pay a minimal fee.
"Donald J. Trump paid $750 in federal income taxes the year he won the presidency. In his first year in the White House, he paid another $750.
He had paid no income taxes at all in 10 of the previous 15 years — largely because he reported losing much more money than he made."

Trump's response, unsurprisingly, is to play the fake news card.
https://www.foxnews.com/politics/trump-new-york-times-avoid-paying-taxes-totally
Well presidency is a fullstack job, so taxes are automatically deducted from his monthly pay check 🙄 Don't you ever people have a fulltime job or something. And his businesses pay taxes separately from individual federal tax. That's why it's called double taxation. That's taxes 101. I don't even like Trump, but these arguments are for mentally challenged people who do not know how taxes work🤦♂️

I think in this the difference is that trump claimed to be an amazing businessman and would make america rich.
In reality he lost so much money that he could write off tax for years because he was so bad at business. It is more of an image thing.
