@mrbojangles25: Labor hoarding is the set of policies I've been advocating on here for months (and that several countries have implemented) to put the economy on ice. It involves the government stepping in to directly provide x percentage of labor costs and fixed costs on the condition that those workers remain employed and can resume work once able.

Combined with viral suppression (initial lockdowns) followed by test and trace, it's pretty effective.

See I can agree with you. If you are going to shut it all down you better have a damn plan in place to help families in need during the lock down. Just locking down people where they can't work without a plan is one of the dumbest damn political moves I have seen during this pandemic. Sure you might be helping people but in the end you are only hurting them.

Since February the American people have had quite the insight into what ****-ups the DNC is because states like NY, and Michigan did what you thought was necessary, and many thousands died than in any other state. NYC has the largest death rate in the world.

@eoten: It's interesting looking at this from my perspective in Melbourne, Australia, where we've been in lockdown for a few months and have basically defeated the second wave.

We've gone from over 700 cases per day to 5 cases per day in under two months. We've had very few deaths. Our economy has taken a hit, but it would have been far worse for Australia if we just opened up businesses and borders.

From my perspective, it's absolutely insane to not put emergency restrictions in place during a pandemic. There's no guarantee of a vaccine, so the fastest way to beat this thing is to isolate. It'll hurt businesses, but so will massive amounts of illness and deaths - and at least isolation has an end point.

It's nonsensical to shut down an entire country, and the entire working class that provides the tax revenue to fund the unemployment benefits and stimulus checks when the average age of people actually killed by the disease is GREATER than human life expectancy. Shutting down nursing homes and taking extra precautions with people 65+ would have no less effect than shutting down everyone and everything. There has been a large increase in drug abuse and suicides because of it as well.

None of the hospitals got even close to overloaded though, did they? Nor would they have when the vast majority of patients who caught it under 65 don't even require hospitalization. You know what would have keep hospitalization low for 65+? Not ordering nursing homes to take in covid positive patients. Whitless and Cuomo got a lot of innocent people killed.
