From a local news station. Looks like Whitmer over stepped her boundaries and now she will have to check her god complex she has been having. Do you agree with the court ruling? Looks like the people of Michigan want to get back to work and provide for their families.

And nothing will be done about it either. But, I guess we should thank her. The way she's handled Michigan for the last few months made that state a slam dunk for Trump.

I'm calling it right now. This woman will try and find a way to get those judges reprimanded.

Also probably don't want covid patients in their nursing homes.

The hypocrisy is too much. When Trump gets a god complex and uses EO to force his will, that’s cool. And Democrat...Better stop that nazi now! I feel sorry for the countless deaths this will cause.

This is politically motivated, nothing more.

I don't see what the big deal is with this from a political viewpoint. Democrat Governor loses because a Republican court has a different political viewpoint. That and the reverse happens all the time.

OP is pure bullshit though because of the God complex statement, seeing as Republic Governors have taken exact opposite positions which is simply playing God from the opposite viewpoint.

What this and innumerable similar examples demonstrate is the pure shit of American institutions. You have spent decades politicizing the Hell out of everything, extended voting into places it shouldn't be extended into, saddled yourselves with losers everywhere in key positions of authority based upon political affiliation instead of competence and expertise, and created a completely dysfunctional system. Congratulations.

So the topic of the OP is hardly a surprise and not even noteworthy, as American dysfunction plays out every day. Wake me when separate politicized institutions controlled by different political affiliations actually agree on something/work together. That would be noteworthy.

It is not a unsupported Youtube link. It is a link to a local news station who post their stories on Youtube. Seriously just because it is on Youtube means jack crap when it is from a local news station. Did you even look at the link before you went all Karen?

@tenaka2: ‘unsupported youtube links again?‘

Typical. I don’t see you calling out CNN or MSNBC links that are splattered all over this site, yet a local news story that goes against your bias is somehow ‘unsupported’?

The hypocrisy is real ladies and gents.

We got a president, senators, mayors, governors, city officials, and other members of the government (oh yeah, and let's not forget about poor ol' Herman Cain!) and Republicans and the right still just don't want to do what is necessary.

Yeah...being out of work sucks. No one is denying that. But you know what else sucks? Getting sick with COVID and being out of work because you can't go to work WHEN YOU'RE SICK WITH COVID.

You know what's even worse? Getting sick with COVID, going to work, exposing all your coworkers to it, and then the business shutting down permanently. Now you're actually out of work for good instead of simply furloughed.

Republicans and Democrats need to come up with something to get people through this time. I mean FFS if there was ever a time to work together, it's now. We are the wealthiest, most powerful country and the best we can do is squabbling over petty shit like this. Despicable.

Here's an idea. How about we seize half of Jeff Bezos 100 billion dollars he's made since the start of COVID? After all, he only made that money because people are too terrified to go out to stores and buy shit.....January 2020 Bezos net wealth was about 100 billion.....now it's 200 billion.

Why don't we ask all the people that have made billions (collectively trillions) exploiting the country's laws and people for some money. Or, you know, patch the loopholes and retroactively seize the assets they more or less were allowed to steal.

It is time to eat the rich, America. And boo fucking hoo, if poor little Richy Goldencock wakes up tomorrow and only has 10 billion instead of 20, BFD.

*sigh*

Imagine if our politicians actually had a can-do attitude, work ethic, and managed to get half of what they needed to get done accomplished.

We'd be a utopia.

What is labor hoarding?

@mrbojangles25: Labor hoarding is the set of policies I've been advocating on here for months (and that several countries have implemented) to put the economy on ice. It involves the government stepping in to directly provide x percentage of labor costs and fixed costs on the condition that those workers remain employed and can resume work once able.

Combined with viral suppression (initial lockdowns) followed by test and trace, it's pretty effective.

See I can agree with you. If you are going to shut it all down you better have a damn plan in place to help families in need during the lock down. Just locking down people where they can't work without a plan is one of the dumbest damn political moves I have seen during this pandemic. Sure you might be helping people but in the end you are only hurting them.

It is sad times that a pandemic has become so political but it is what it is. Unfortunately there is nothing we can do because both sides are just being idiotic over this entire thing and it is a shame they can't work together on a pandemic. It just shows were we are politically and why both sides need to get LOST!

Ooh, yeah, it's a conspiracy of republican activist judges having a disagreement with the governor. Sure dude. It couldn't possibly by that she actually extended a state of emergency well beyond the length of time she was legally able to do so.

@eoten: It's interesting looking at this from my perspective in Melbourne, Australia, where we've been in lockdown for a few months and have basically defeated the second wave.

We've gone from over 700 cases per day to 5 cases per day in under two months. We've had very few deaths. Our economy has taken a hit, but it would have been far worse for Australia if we just opened up businesses and borders.

From my perspective, it's absolutely insane to not put emergency restrictions in place during a pandemic. There's no guarantee of a vaccine, so the fastest way to beat this thing is to isolate. It'll hurt businesses, but so will massive amounts of illness and deaths - and at least isolation has an end point.

It's nonsensical to shut down an entire country, and the entire working class that provides the tax revenue to fund the unemployment benefits and stimulus checks when the average age of people actually killed by the disease is GREATER than human life expectancy. Shutting down nursing homes and taking extra precautions with people 65+ would have no less effect than shutting down everyone and everything. There has been a large increase in drug abuse and suicides because of it as well.

None of the hospitals got even close to overloaded though, did they? Nor would they have when the vast majority of patients who caught it under 65 don't even require hospitalization. You know what would have keep hospitalization low for 65+? Not ordering nursing homes to take in covid positive patients. Whitless and Cuomo got a lot of innocent people killed.

The American people also have had insights into the screw up of Trump, his administration, and the GOP. Which is why they mostly blame Trump and trust Biden for handling corona (Polls). You should stop using the "The American people think xyz" line when they actually don't think that, please look at polls first before using that one-liner.

Apart from that, experts and studies generally disagree with most of what you have been saying,

Why the United States failed to contain COVID‐19

4 FEAR OF ECONOMIC CONSEQUENCES

The fear of the economic impact of a panic caused by a communicable disease epidemic may have slowed lawmakers and government officials to respond to the emergence of the COVID‐19 threat. Such an impact was seen earlier in the Asian economic markets because of COVID‐19.18 Perhaps in an effort to contain this fear to prevent similar impact on the US economy, appropriate information on how to prepare for the eventual epidemic in the United States was not disseminated to the public, businesses, and industries. In hindsight, it is all too easy for us to conclude that any and all aggressive proactive measures required to contain the outbreak and eventual spread of the disease in the United States would have been less costly.

https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/emp2.12155

Failing the Test — The Tragic Data Gap Undermining the U.S. Pandemic Response

That the United States is failing such a simple test of its capacity to protect public health is shocking. Collecting and reporting public health data are not rocket science. Other countries, notably Canada and Belgium, are already reporting nationwide data on testing at the individual level, including individual demographic data (using ranges for each person to protect privacy) and other key attributes for each test.4 The United States was once a leader in collecting systematic federal data on population health. Now our national disease-tracking effort seems stuck with well-meaning but scattershot efforts by tech companies using cellular phone signals, social media surveys, online searches, and smart thermometers as we try to guess where Covid-19 outbreaks may be lurking. Small one-off studies using convenience samples have popped up to try to fill the vacuum with basics such as percentages of cases that are asymptomatic and of symptomatic people who seek care. Because of sampling bias, these studies are producing wildly different and nearly uninterpretable results. Estimates are so wide ranging that modelers have little choice but to default back to imprecise assumptions.

Prey tell the necessary strategy needing implementation or continued implementation.

Amazon didn't make $$$ hand over fist only because people are terrified. The sheer convenience is second to none and lets not forget how certain stores were closed for months because of the policies and orders put forth by state governments.
