I'm always amazed at how much corruption there is by officials who are supposed to be helping the people. I live near Detroit and we had a mayor that embezzled and used the office as his own enrichment scheme.

$8 million is chump change. PR will require tens of billions to rebuild. It absolutely does come down to Trump ignoring PR.

It´s what happens when people get control over money that is not their own and where they have almost no downsides to taking some of it.

IE every politician, it´s why people go into politics instead of finding a real job.

The emails leaked by Russia proved she was right. Thats what i mean. As a result it pissed off many Bernie Sanders supporters and they refused to vote thus causing Trump to win the election. Your worried about Russian meddling and aren't even sure how they influenced the election?

Okay, everyone so I can give an objective view at this since I'm born, raised and live in Puerto Rico.

The level of corruption here is truly insane. At all levels of government, despite the U.S aid, our politicians steal from their people. Laws are being passed that benefit the rich, and despite our national earnings (GDP) which is quite low we have universal healthcare which in my opinion is draining the economy dry. If anyone looks up the "Whitefish scandal" it is by far the most disgusting thing I've seen in awhile. How the government used $300 million dollars to contract a startup with only 2 employees to improve the electrical system after hurricane Maria. It makes no sense.

However, who's to blame? The people themselves. There are only 2 strong political parties here that everyone knows are corrupt, but people here are so stupid they still vote for them for the fear of the other party winning. However, unlike the U.S where there is a massive difference between Republicans and Democratics, these parties are exactly the same - only 1 supports statehood, the other being a colony.

In essence, it's much more complex. But the results of Puerto Ricos peril is essentially its own people.

Unfortunately, my startup has a government contract so I feel morally wrong for not being so active politically, but it's a necessity if I want to help improve the economy and continue to create jobs.
