Amid COVID-19 fears and Saudi/Russia oil price war global markets are getting crushed. Rightly or wrongly when US markets get hammered the sitting president tends to take heat for it.

Will this affect trump's 2020 prospects or will he once again be able to skate past a political crisis that would destroy other candidates' chances?

EDIT: holy shit they temporarily halted trading... yikes.

Yes. The interesting question is, will he deserve it? Or is it pure partisan posturing? It's not like we haven't seen enough of that going around from both sides.

You would only be able to blame trump if you convince yourself the virus and saudi/russia oil price war are Trumps fault.

Personally I think its a good time to buy stocks, this virus will most likely blow over, ones that buy while the market is down will make major gains.

How many of you prepped for this? I know I did months ago. No Costco TP raids for me. My son could build a pretty badass fort with all the TP I have.

TOPIC: Of course Trump will be blamed. Personal responsibility is a thing of the past and we need dear leaders to take care of us.

THe rate of this virus has picked up. 2-3 days ago we hit 100K cases, now we are at 110K. If you're blaming other people for how bad things are getting, I honestly feel bad for you.

Our economy anymore is like a game of Jenga, continuously making things higher and higher by tearing apart the foundations. It's only ever a matter of time and catalyst before things turned to shit. Trumpalump isn't running the economy himself, but his actions do have impacts, and he's dropping the ball hard right now. So yes, he should get a little blame. It's not like he literally factory brewed covid-19 like a supervillain, but he certainly fucked up the market by letting it prop up a bowling ball with silly string, and then fucked up the outbreak response. Saying he's blameless in our recent major downturn is simply inaccurate.

Now if the question is, will it cost him the election... I mean in any sane world, he never would win in the first place, but here we are. It's virtually impossible to predict anything a month out these days, even whether a president losing his one saving grace is enough to get his ass canned.

Bloomberg spent over half a billion dollars and all it got him was American Samoa. He should have gotten with the Russians that got Trump elected for the low price of a hundred grand instead.

Looking at the current Democrat presidential candidates Trump will get re-elected. Trumps policies have positioned the United States to be able to weather this current crisis, unlike many of the European countries especially Italy.

lol yeah he should have, instead of paying Americans to make memes for him he should just gotten the Russians to do it for free XD That guy pissed away so much money to lose big, what a waste. So glad i don't have to listen to his generic stupid ads everywhere now.

His fault for jumping in late and just trying to buy the damn thing, Trump was modest compared to Bloomberg, even Ted Cruz spent more on his campaign than Trump. Trump did it the way everyone does, went through the entire process unlike Bloomberg.

This tweet made me laugh so much, I'm a big fan of our president, I originally only voted for him because i cant stand Hillary, but hes earned my respect, absolute savage and holds nothing back. Honestly will never get a president like this again. I'm going to miss him come 2024.

Yup, logged into my trading account today to see I have essentially lost everything in my S&P 500 ETF. Funny to think it was at +13% two weeks ago hahaha...aww.

With that said, it is a good time to buy, that's for sure.

I don't blame Trump for this but he could certainly be doing better.

Look into tech stuff; anything made with parts from China (apple, AMD, intel, nvidia) is going to be cheap, and will probably surge upward. A lot of devices are not being made, creating a lot of demand.

Good looks! I'm new to stocks tbh started building my portfolio last year so i'm always open ears.

Yeah both AMD and Nvidia look to have dropped pretty low, I'm sure they will bounce back. I didn't realize AMD stock was that cheap, tbh it makes a lot more sense for me to invest into them, plus i love AMD and they have been doing a killer job with their CPU's. I wonder how much more it will drop... interesting stuff

I got a buddy who says investing in airliners might be a good look since they have gotten hit so hard by the virus, also cruise ships. its cheap right now

I'd say he's only going to take blame if this whole thing drags out long enough. If Corona virus runs it's course and subsides in the next few months, it won't affect him at all. If it lingers until the fall, he's in trouble.

Massive good advice there Steve, if you do really want to invest or begin to invest, don´t look to a forum like GS.

And also don´t fall for those "get rich quick schemes" like those self-help gurus sell, they will never work.

Do your own research and find a reputable trade forum, if you really think you need good advice.

Will he take the blame??? It's already his fault! His disgusting inaction in the beginning is why things are getting worse.

The CDC kind of runs the show. I'm curious, what is Trump not doing? Should he issue Cuban style orders and round up all suspected infected people into death camps? Ask the world to triple its production of hand sanitizer? Magically create an antiviral or vaccine to this new strain? It seems the markets are down because this is a worldwide pandemic, not because of the - so far limited - spread of the virus in the US. There are countries that are taking massive draconian tactics to prevent spread and it still spreads. So what steps should the US be taking that they aren't?

What's more disgusting is all the non doctors and non CDC people that are spouting out useless advice and inciting terror and panic. In 2017 the flu killed 45,000 people in the US alone. It annually kills 20,000 people. Yet no one panics about it. Coronavirus has been around for decades. This new strain appears to be more virulent, but many experts suspect the true mortality rates are lower because many people are asymptomatic and dont get tested. It seems to be killing people that are very sick to begin with, it does not appear to be striking down healthy adults in their prime.

Get real people. There was not a damn thing to prevent this from happening. Blaming this on Trump is what is wrong with the political climate. Democrats are so scared they are going to lose in November you all are reaching for anything hoping it can hurt Trump. It really isn't a good look right now.

If Trump is to blame why is ever other country in the world also getting it?

Just think, with H1N1, Obama didn't declare a national emergency until there were millions of cases, 20,000 people hospitalized, and 1,000 people had died. All the headlines back then were telling people not to panic.

Trump declares a national emergency after a single death, and we get a bunch of headlines saying he isn't doing enough.

Yeah, what do I know, I've only increased my investments 30% over two years.

But no, good advice.

Focus on long-term, let the day traders do the buying and selling. Find a good mutual fund or ETF with good dividend payments and low fee. I recommend Vanguard stuff (specifically VOO).

Yeah. I recommend opening a Schwab account. They're super helpful and have some great tools for researching.

Do your own research for sure, but don't ignore advice outright just because it come from some online forum or something. A lot of us are adults with jobs, decades of experience, and are financially responsible. People are in general very helpful when given the opportunity to be.

Trump hasn't declared a national emergency...

He agreed to congressional funding but the whitehouse is still floating the idea of emergency.

The rooster who took credit for the sunrise is angry that he's taking blame for the sunset.

There's a reason presidents don't usually tout the stock market as a reason to support them. This is it.

Trump was either too stupid to understand that or too arrogant to think it could happen to him.

Surprised to hear you voting for a Democrat.
