https://6abc.com/philadelphia-vandalism-walter-wallace-west-philly-shooting-police/7376268/

At least 90 people have been arrested and at least 30 police officers have been injured as tensions erupted in West Philadelphia after police shot and killed a man armed with a knife, according to officials.

Authorities said officers confronted Walter Wallace on Monday afternoon. Police said Wallace was shot multiple times by two officers after he didn't adhere to calls to drop the weapon. He was later pronounced dead.

The large swing state of Pennsylvania amidst the 6th largest city in the country, and one of the oldest cities in the country is in chaos after assaults, looting and rioting overnight. The national guard have been activated to assist local law enforcement.

Some interesting things I've noticed regarding the news cycle of this; looking at the home pages of the New York Times, CNN, The Washington Post, etc. Seems to be very little interest in covering this.

NYT for example had a small link in their "other news" section with no photos, referred to the chaos as a "protest". No photo on the front page to accompany the small side headline.

CNN mentioned Philadelphia once, calling the chaos ... "protests continue." No photo on the front page to accompany the small side headline.

The Washington Post had one story under their "Race & Reckoning" section, top story calling the chaos "protests" - and finishing the headline with police/national guard being aggressive. No photo on the front page to accompany the small bottom headline.

Fox News had four stories on the Philadelphia rioting. One of the stories had an accompanying gif of the violence. CBS included it on their top headline with an accompanying photo. Zero mention of Philadelphia from MSNBC, but they did include a top headline with large photo on "Trump supporters left stranded in freezing cold following Omaha rally."

Can you expect anything less from the left? This is exactly what they want to happen. Big reason Trump wins re-election.

I have two scenarios the mainstream media is using here. 1. They can’t possibly push anything negative about the Democrats in fears their numbers could go down or 2. If they run a story, they risk copy cat riots in other parts of America?

Either way, omission of news falls under fake news.

Hopefully some dude gets a nice new free 50 inch plasma-screen.

To end racism.

Has Kenney gotten down and kissed the asses of those dealing with "systemic racism" in the City of Brotherly Love or will that happen tonight?

1. The man wasn’t unarmed. Officer gave him ample time to stand down.

2. “Trumps America”, right, because shootings and riots never happened during Obama’s years.

Number 2 is weak because New York and Portland also saw violence related to the Philadelphia event.

I think it's pretty clear to me; considering the obsession with any and all things Trump (which is also applicable even at this forum among users/topics), 30 officers injured isn't news worthy to MSNBC, or news journalists being assaulted, or the mass looting. Deflect, deflect, and more deflection.

There's probably more to this story and the events that transpired afterwards, especially as everyone here is making silly assumptions.

That being said, knives are dangerous. Legally, it seems that the police are justified. That being said, it seems that there is a better way to deal with those types of aggressors as seen from UK cops and US cops. Why couldn't the Philly cops do something other than shoot Walter? Who knows.

I have seen the video and the cops were 100% justified shooting this man chasing them down with a knife. They tried MANY times for him to stop and drop the knife and he kept going towards them. Again these rioters are only looking for an excuse to do this stupid shit.

Again every time a person of color is shot does not mean it was done in ill intentions. It is getting beyond out of hand how the left is acting on all of this.

Indeed. They weren't even close enough to the individual for the knife to be a threat. Also they were called because he had mental problems. Tasing should have been an option before guns.

WTF! You do know tasers don't always work and then what? Sorry you go after cops with a LETHAL weapon you better be prepared to be shot. Seriously you people don't even know WTF you are saying anymore. Sorry I conceal and carry every day and if you come at me with a knife, well you shouldn't bring a knife to a gunfight is all I can say.

Restrain someone with a knife ROFLMAO! That is hilarious.

BTW here is a video that shows that tasers are only effective about half the time from stats given by the LAPD.

if thats true the tasers need to be fixed. Increase their juice and make them work 100% of the time. I agree that tasers need to be used by police, unless the victim is carrying a gun.

WTF! Unless he was a deadly accurate knife thrower there was no need to shoot him. And at the end of the day as a society we should prefer less death, not more.

I said taser by the way. That incapacitates and then you restrain. Pay attention.

Tasers needs a certain distance between the electrodes for it to work. So a taser that works at 3 feet distance probably won't work when the distance is 10 feet. And vice versa.

I guess the next step could be adding a sensor for distance measuring on the taser. Given tech today and how fast it develops, we shouldn't be so far from where that could be a reality. If it is a good suggestion or not I don't know.

Maybe when minority parents have "the talk" with their children they should instruct them to not run at police with a knife and continue charging when they're instructed to drop the knife. Also don't try to take the police officer's weapon.

PA court records show that Wallace has been arrested no less than *ten times* since 2013 - including five felony convictions ranging from Burglary to Aggravated Assault & Terroristic Threatening. So maybe also don't commit violent felonies? Also not singing songs about guns and shooting police would be helpful.

https://6abc.com/philadelphia-vandalism-walter-wallace-west-philly-shooting-police/7396432/

"Guns are a central theme as he rhymes about shooting people, including police."

Will burning down and destroying people's businesses and livelihoods bring anyone back? Looks like the city is really benefiting from the diversity of Biden voters. Who here wants to move to Philadelphia now?

When unarmed white people are killed by police and some have been brutally killed you don't see white people acting like victims. For example, the police used a chokehold and mocked a white man in Texas as they killed him. Where are the civil rights groups and "White Lives Matter" organizations to fight for white social justice?

But American problems needs American solutions. Isn't that what American exceptionalism is about?

Tasers are not infallible, I've had them fail on me. I've seen them be ineffective for a variety of different reasons. Connection, clothing, drugs, alcohol, etc. When countering a deadly weapon, a knife for example, the taser deployment must be accompanied by a second officer with lethal force option and from a position of hard cover if feasible. The preferred option is distance in cover and using a 40mm or less lethal shotgun which fires a beanbag round. Pain compliance to get the suspect to drop the weapon. In a rapidly evolving scene, where an armed suspect is pursuing officers around a car and closing the distance getting within a car's length of them, 10-15ft away from them, the Tueller Drill rule comes to play. It's easy for keyboard warrior to Monday night quarter back anything, especially when one has zero knowledge or experience about anything related to police tactics.

And the right using this to manipulate people begins. FYI, riots are never one sided. White supremacy groups have been caught encouraging their members to take advantage of these all across the nation.

The parents did an incredible job raising a recidivist! Of course though, it's the fault of the police!

Well, I guess people better listen to what they want, otherwise things are bound to get worse.

I don't mean they need to give in to demands, but people don't protest for no reason, you know? Sit down with the leadership and hash things out.

Diplomacy and compromising needs to make a serious comeback in 2021.

Definitely the typical excuse to defend criminality and incompetence amongst the ranks.

@Sevenizz: It was in plain English, what’s not to understand? The right uses these riots to attack the left and encourage people to vote conservative while ignoring their own side doing the same thing. How is that difficult to understand? Don’t play stupid with me, you know what I meant and that it’s true. You do it.

Well, I guess people better listen to what they want, otherwise things are bound to get worse.

I don't mean they need to give in to demands, but people don't protest for no reason, you know? Sit down with the leadership and hash things out.

Diplomacy and compromising needs to make a serious comeback in 2021.

There is no talking or listening anymore. It's all divisive. And that starts at the top. People take cues.

let it burn, then they can all vote for democrats and defund their police, let them put social workers out there to deal with crazed people wielding knives, social workers already when put in these situations end up having to call the police for help, but now we can defund police, which will mean worst training and equipment for cops, they probably wont even be able to afford body cams, that's cool. meanwhile we can train social workers how to disarm crazy people with knives, we might need to train them how to use firearms and tasers so they don't get stabbed to death in the line of duty for social work, yeah... lets train the social workers how to be cops. This is a good idea, either way Philadelphia police is the responsibility of Trump, everyone knows the president is responsible for everything, democrats in philly have 0 power, they are basically hadicapped vegetable people, Trump is in charge of Philly, nobody else can do anything there but Trump. George Zimmerman = Trump, BLM, vote for the guy who time after time brought progressive change to the criminal justice system, that guys name is Joe Biden, Cmon man!

you know what is funny? In predominately black countries in Africa or the Carribean Islands, the people there don't protest or riot. At least not to the degree that it happens here. The reason is because police in those countries don't take shit lying down. They maintain law and order. The west has truly gotten soft.

1. The man wasn’t unarmed. Officer gave him ample time to stand down.

2. “Trumps America”, right, because shootings and riots never happened during Obama’s years.

It's a bit like murdering someone, and blaming the neighbor 2 blocks away who had no idea what or where anything was going on, for not stopping it. It's an argument the left makes based in ignorance, delusion, and malace. When leftwing radicals riot and cause billions in property damage, it's always someone elses fault. When they lose an election, it's never because they did anything wrong. The funny part is, those dipshits rioting are the same ones calling for defunding of police. Yeah, like sane people are going to go for that seeing what damage they cause even when police are present.

Trying to blame riots organized by a self-proclaimed Marxist organization that is then encouraged and enabled by the media, on Trump, is absolutely ridiculous. But, that epitomized the thought processes of the left.

WTF! Unless he was a deadly accurate knife thrower there was no need to shoot him. And at the end of the day as a society we should prefer less death, not more.

I said taser by the way. That incapacitates and then you restrain. Pay attention.

You pay attention, tasers only work 50% of the time. The guy is pursuing you and he will not stop after being told to MANY MANY MANY times. The cops did what they needed to to end the confrontation safely. What are you supposed to do try to taser the guy it fail and now he is on top of you stabbing you. No you have a deadly weapon chasing cops expect to get shot END OF STORY. It really is that damn simple!

if thats true the tasers need to be fixed. Increase their juice and make them work 100% of the time. I agree that tasers need to be used by police, unless the victim is carrying a gun.

Better than reaching for the gun.

Say that if someone is coming at you with a knife. Seriously man get a clue.

@Xabiss: It would have been worth trying at all and he was far enough away.

He was to far away. Do you want someone closing the gap on you with a knife to flip and coin and hope the taser works? They did their job perfectly. The guy was chasing cops with a DEADLY WEAPON you get shot period. This is really a no brainer!
