I think some of these might be impulsive, but some have a point.

Lawmakers raise alarms over Trump coronavirus response

https://thehill.com/policy/healthcare/484597-lawmakers-raise-alarms-over-trump-coronavirus-response

“It is clear this administration is in total disarray when it comes to this crisis of the coronavirus,” Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) said Tuesday.

Sen. Mitt Romney (Utah), the only Republican to vote for Trump’s impeachment earlier this year, also harshly criticized the administration.

“I’m very disappointed in the degree to which we’ve prepared for a pandemic, both in terms of protective equipment and in terms of medical devices that would help people once they are infected,” Romney said.

“They should have made this request three weeks ago when a lot of us were begging for it,” said Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), a member of the Senate appropriations committee. “I worry that it's both too little and potentially too late.”

“They tore down the National Security Council capacity to deal with pandemic disease, they're putting somebody in charge of the response who has a million other jobs,” Murphy said. “There's just no seriousness in this administration about a disease that is going to be a global pandemic that is going to shave 5-10 points off global markets, and I think that’s really frightening.”

Looks like he's not exactly wrong,

In 2018, the Trump administration fired the government’s entire pandemic response chain of command, including the White House management infrastructure. In numerous phone calls and emails with key agencies across the U.S. government, the only consistent response I encountered was distressed confusion. If the United States still has a clear chain of command for pandemic response, the White House urgently needs to clarify what it is

Either way I hope more is done if the CDC's new claims are correct.

Congress has the power of the purse, if they believe the national stage is understaffed or underfunded to handle an outbreak. Perhaps they should, I don't know, pass a funding measure after all the committees weigh in and help the CDC, state offices of emergency management, major hospitals, etc?

I'm honestly surprised that Trump hasn't leveraged the coronavirus to claim a democrat hoax or something similar.

Well, this administration is very anti-scientist and anti-intellectual, and a lot of the people that would be good at this sort of thing are scientists and smart people.

No surprise.

You got to compare rate of infection and deadliness.
it is not without reason these measurements are taken.

yes. but currently the COVID-19 virus is more deadly in terms of the % of infected people who end up dying. that and there is no vaccine yet currently available whereas the flu vaccine has been available for years.

Normal flu still kills loads more in absolute numbers. However had we treated this like a normal flu, things would be much worse.

That's pretty specious. And people have cured themselves of it without medical attention. So if it was treated like a normal flu, it wouldn't be any worse than a normal flu. Right now it pales in comparison to flu.

Per capita, US infection numbers are very low BECAUSE of the flights being shut down to and from China. Trump did the right thing here. You can’t argue that fact.

That is true, but it will rebound. Long game baby! Biotech is nothing but the short game right now. NVAX, INO, and CODX is my play. CODX already 300%+ return on my investment. I am hoping NVAX does that, and CODX was just a fun play.

@LJS9502_basic: Again N64DD shows a complete lack of understanding and only use absolute numbers.

@n64dd according to Marketwatch the current fatality rate is estimate to 2.1% for the coronavirus. While the total death total is still far lower than the 14000 or so who have dead by the seasonal flu alone in US, it is 14000 out of an estimated 26 million, 26 000 000, infected. If 26 million Americans got infected with Coronavirus, almost 550 000 are estimate to die because of it.

There have been more flu deaths this year than Coronavirus deaths and we can combat the flu, should tell you something.

Flu kills about .1-.2% of confirmed cases, while Coronavirus is up around 3%. If it is able to spread as far as the Flu does in any give year by the time a vaccine is ready, we're looking at a serious casualty rate, that would be about 300,000-500,000 people in America alone.

Flu is expected, predictable, and managed regularly to roughly the best of our ability. Covid 19 has no clear ends in sight, no accessible vaccines, and not a whole lot of research or information available.

And either way, it's not a competition. Avoiding the spread of new viral illnesses should be treated very seriously, new or old.

Which is hard to do when you fired the entire pandemic team.

SInce we still know nothing about it, i'd say that 2.1 percent is a guess. Vaasman threw out a 3 percent which proves my point.

Marketwatch is outdated. Multiple daily maps have it at 2,800 deaths right now for 82,000+ confirmed cases. Which is over 3%

SInce we still know nothing about it, i'd say that 2.1 percent is a guess. Vaasman threw out a 3 percent which proves my point.

Itality had around 3% at one point, Iran maybe 19%. Some countries still has low numbers so one or two deaths is enough to significantly impact the fatality rate. At this point 2-3% is in the same ballpark.

So instead of acting like i'm crazy for disagreeing, how about you admit that they really don't have an accurate number yet?

ONCE AGAIN YOUR BIAS SHOWS.

Marketwatch is outdated. Multiple daily maps have it at 2,800 deaths right now for 82,000+ confirmed cases. Which is over 3%

Since this is all brand new? how do we know those people didn't die from other complications or wrong treatment?

Yes I'm sure everyone who was scanned and confirmed for covid was also bleeding from a stab wound.

Don't be stupid.

Did they already have weakened immune systems, would they have died from any other illness?

don't be stupid.

No troll, these are confirmed covid cases and deaths, and if your immune system is weakened or otherwise infected they wouldn't discount that the virus killed you anymore than they would if it was flu. The areas we need information for it in are not tracking fatalities, it's in contagiousness and treatment. You're making yourself look like a jackass for no reason, all of the data was provided for you to look at.

My point is, the flu would have killed them too. You're not an expert because you read a few articles on a new virus that nobody understands yet. So don't preach to me about being a jackass.

Then stop being a jackass, jackass. This isn't the fucking disease olympics, we should treat this and any potential viral diseases seriously, especially so when the death toll is already in the thousands.
