What an absolute shit show. And all so the dying GOP can score better redistricting to get some more wins in by being "advantageous to the non-Hispanic white vote".

Justice Department changes attorneys in census citizenship-question battle

https://www.politico.com/story/2019/07/08/justice-department-census-citizenship-question-battle-1399523

The Justice Department announced Sunday night that it is assigning a new team of attorneys to defend President Donald Trump’s continuing attempts to add a question about citizenship to the 2020 census.

A statement announcing the move gave no clear rationale for the shift, but legal experts said the lawyers who’ve handled the multi-front legal battle for the Trump administration over the last 15 months were likely to face questions about their credibility in the prolonged fight, since they repeatedly told federal courts that there was an urgent deadline at the end of last month to finalize the language for the census questionnaire.

Cheat, at ALL COSTS. And if that fails, lie to your dumb ass base that you're still trying to CHEAT at ALL COSTS.

I'm not sure what's left in their play book seeing as they started printing forms already. They've spoken of an addendum but that even seems sketchy. An executive action doesn't seem viable either.

Trump basically said, 'We need this for our redistricting focus', e.g. they're trying to get a lower turnout to help GOP redistricting. Just another cog in Republican's machine to American voters.

So considering that the forms are already being printed and there is no way this is going to change anything on that front. This is a pointless thred.

Clearly not a pointless thread. If the clown-in-chief and DOJ had dropped the matter and there was no further public discourse, then you might have a point. But neither of those things have occurred, even though we agree that there seems very little chance of the question being added. The reason it continues is entirely political and involves pandering to the anti-immigrant base. This is a political board.

Yes, It´s only an issue because we are getting closer to an election and it´s a play for his base.

But this is a debate forum, so what do you want to debate? I think no one here is going to disagree that it´s a political election play for his base.

If I had Trump´s ear you can be sure 99% of the shit he says and does would not happen... but alas he is his own master and it will cost him a re-election.

Barr says Trump administration can legally add citizenship question to census

“I agree with him that the Supreme Court decision was wrong,” Barr told the AP. The attorney general added that he thinks there is “an opportunity potentially to cure the lack of clarity that was the problem and we might as well take a shot at doing that.”

Barr declined to provide further details to the wire service on how the question will be added to the census.

However, the AP cited a senior official who said President Trump is expected to issue a presidential memorandum to the Commerce Department directing it to include the citizenship question on the 2020 census. Action is expected to be taken in the coming days.

Cheat to win. Cheat to win.
