Illinois becomes the 9th state with common sense that understands the grave threat weapons of war on city streets pose.

The same, delivery, and purchase of assault style weapons and high capacity magazines is illegal. 👍

Anything that increases the firing rate of semi auto weapons is now illegal. 👍

Requires current owners to register. Amazing and wonderful! 👍

This is what real leadership and being pro life really is. Congrats to every citizen of Illinois and thank you so much for standing up for our freedom to be safe from weapons of war on our streets. This is a wonderful day for all Americans. 🇺🇸

@silentchief: Blah blah blah. Last time I looked, Chicago wasn't even in the top 10. Dangerous pro gun red states occupy most of the top 10 most dangerous.

@silentchief: Oh, look at that. It made it to number 10. 😆

Plenty of cities in red states following backwards red state law. Red states dominate the nation in gun violence, not surprisingly. Thanks for showing all of us. 👍

This is the same state that did away with a bail requirement letting criminals back on the streets to commit more crime. That is real safe for the law abiding citizen only now they can't protect themselves.

Such a good news to hear as an Illinois citizen, hopefully Chicago will be the same.

@JimB: So you think entire states in the USA are so dangerously unstable that you'd need an assault rifle for protection?

That seems pretty weird for a first-world nation.

So they went from regular people being able to super duper easily murder lots of people, to just very easily murder lots of people? Rejoice.

Poppycock. You'll now be able to walk through the south side of chicago without worrying about being shot or mugged. Just another dog and pony show for the politicians of Illinois is what happened.

Do you live there? How many people have been the victim of stray bullets there, including small children. Because the main stream media won't cover the stories doesn't make them not true.

The focus should be on crime and the people committing the crime. Instead criminals are treated with kit gloves and the victims and ordinary citizens are thrown to the curb. In a first world nation the citizens are protected. They are no longer protected in the US.

It's almost like city leadership has more effect then the state.

These are also per capita numbers so smaller cities would be factored in.

Yet blue states make up half the top 20. A ban won't stop the problem. That will become painfully obvious in the coming months.

Uh huh. And I'm waiting for the US Government to make common sense gun control laws that apply to everyone but insecurity of those with guns makes that an issue.

I love Chicago (just came back from a trip there before Christmas) but its South Side has not been safe despite the fact that the city is a no-gun zone. Shootings happening very often, and if you read the Chicago Reddit page, you’ll even see that the liberals who live in the city are tired of it.

Your thread title is an immature statement that proves nothing. What will be proven is that banning guns and creating gun free zones does very little in reducing gun violence, but enjoy your fantasy land.

@Planeforger

Ignorance is bliss, I guess. America is a first world nation, but it has many people with “third world” mindsets. We have many gangs here and lots of racial tension and animosity. The wealth gap is continuing to grow, and with it so does the illusion lessen that America is a prosperous nation across all people groups. “America the Beautiful” is dead. We’re “first world” in GDP, but we’re third world in many ways than you realize.

This is what happens when you live in a country awash with guns. More guns means more crime, every time.

I particularly like the part where you for some odd reason suggest that humans being can protect themselves is with a military-style assault weapon. This is why normal people don't take you guys seriously.

Ohio is a red state. Until we handle gun control on the federal level it will continue to be a problem.

@silentchief: bit of a flawed argument and a copout; almost all cities are blue cities.

Should also be noted that most of that crime is gang-related and isolated to specific neighborhoods. It's still worrying, but it's not like I'm going to get shot wandering around Oakland so long as I stay out of the shit areas. I used to take the train into Oakland when I was a kid and walk around, and this was in the 90's (when crime was really bad).

@warmblur said:

I agree, but with so many guns out there already and the shelf-life of guns being so long (decades upon decades), I expect little impact. Especially when you can drive to the next state.

More needs to be done, specifically gun buybacks; Australia saw a big change when they did a national gun buyback. Though I wonder how effective it would be in the US with our "cold dead hands" belief.

Georgia is the perfect example of a people state which hopefully turns blue so it can have a better quality of life for it's residents.

Blah blah blah. Gun bans work to reduce crime and death. Always have, and the entire developed world demonstrates it every day. Only the gullible who get emotionally involved in the issue incorrectly believe otherwise.

Making it harder to get such weapons isn't a bad thing. Why complain about gun violence and then refuse to take action.

Fewer criminals on the streets would result in fewer gun battles on the streets which is the root cause.

If the public was protected they would not feel the need for a weapon. Most street crime is not committed with an assault weapon. It is a democrat ploy go after a weapon that is not responsible for most crime deaths so that can say we are tough on crime as a solution for a problem they put on steroids.

@JimB: Well, of it's a rare weapon, don't worry about it. Sounds like no one will miss it. 👍

Wouldn't fewer guns result in fewer stray bullets?

Are the democrats banning the firearms which result in the most injuries and/or death or just ones that look exceptionally frightening to them?

We should revive this thread in the future (perhaps six months to a year from now) to test the hypothesis of the thread, although the thread creator did what lefties always do: they state their position as fact without any evidence whatsoever and ruthlessly shame those who dare to disagree or even attempt to bring forth evidence contrary to their dogmatically stated “facts.”

If Chicago‘s South Side in particular becomes safer, then they might be on to something. Let’s give it time and come back to it later to see. Then again, we know that lefties like to cook up “facts” with their own biased ingredients.

Duh. They have to follow backwards red state laws that supersede any city law. This argument of "dere all duh blue cities!!!111one" has never made any sense.

It's extremely lol that you call OH a purple state. Dude, just stop...

How do you somehow ignore that " HALF THE STATES ARE STILL BLUE" . DERP DERP.

Even if you want to call Ohio a red state it doesn't change that fact.

Does the state pick the DA, the Sherif, the police? Lol give it up 🤣!

Ohio is a red state. Until we handle gun control on the federal level it will continue to be a problem.

Ok then by that standard Georgia is now a blue state. Gun bans won't handle the problem.

Except the entire world doesn't demonstrate it 🤣

Look at Mexico. We would be more like Mexico then Denmark. Especially since we border them.

Gangbangers

Drug Dealers

Robbers

Do not care about your laws or rules and regulations...

I don't get why people think this is going to reduce any gun violence when the majority of it is coming from people already breaking the laws..

Like a guy who is dealing smack or a guy commiting B&E's or a guy in a fricken gang, is going to be like "oh no, having this gun is breaking the law, I have to not have this" lol

Goofy people believing in goofy policy.

Law abiding people should ignore this crap legislation as well. Look out for yourself, don't give up you constitution right to protect yours for these loser politicians who can't even define "assault weapon".

Criminals won't follow the rules, you shouldn't either. Cops aren't going to be able to come "save the day" when the bad guy shows up with a gun and you don't.

@silentchief: Learn to read what's actually there, instead of what you want to see, kid. I wrote developed world.

You don't think it will reduce gun violence because you fall for stupid propaganda and are emotionally involved in the politics of it. The data is clear. Bans work. If they didn't, you guys wouldn't be banning abortion.

You have viewpoint of the entirety of establishment media. You are a brainwashed sheep.

There are tons of things that are banned or completely illegal within the US yet float across are streets on a regular basis. Explain to me how guns would be any different then Fentanyl?

Ah so you're okay with rights taken away as long as they aren't yours. Got it.

That's really the only answer to the question. And there are so many issues with the interpretation of the 2nd amendment.

I think the next problem then becomes logistics, there are just so many guns out in the wild now.

I guess your referring to Abortion? I never really posted on the issue. Try again please.

I'm actually in favor of it although for different reasons then yourself.

safer? from who. other countries coming and taking over.
